I was only reading the comments for the " You ruined an antique book!" and "It isn't really making if you use a laser, because that doesn't take any talent!" and my favorite... " It must be nice, I could do the same thing if I had a $10,000 laser!" comments. Interesting project, thanks for posting it.
Let me just say that I enjoyed the video and watching the projects that you do. With that said, I appreciate old books and my heart sank when you took the book apart. I have several dictionaries, 1934 and 1958ish, and I know they are outdated, but I can see them destroyed. (I rescued an 1890's old German bible story book for the waste bin, the book was old and tattered, but still...) I hope you friend appreciates the gift that you made for him.
Can we all just give it up for jimmy... like can we all just give a big “THANK YOU” to him for being him. Think of all the maker and restoration channels on TH-cam now inspired directly by this guy. 4-5 years ago, finding a good knife making video on here was next to impossible. Them jimmy came along, made some cool shit and spray painted his name on everything in New York and now we have all these amazing channels with their own styles and niches. And I’m not saying jimmy inspired every single maker ever but the number of people that know how to cut a dovetail or even use an electric drill today that didn’t know that a few years back because of him is probably absolutely staggering. Even little shit I use on a day to day basis that I don’t even realize anymore, I’m finding I saw jimmy do it in a 6 year old video. Even his filming process!! Like think of how popular the quick cut, time lapse, no narration editing style has gotten.. again, not saying jimmy started it all, but his style got super popular then a bunch of other people picked it up.. He’s just so gifted at what he does I gotta appreciate the significance. Who else could get 1million views in 24 hours on a video demonstrating canoe building?
When lasering the book, you probably didn't need the air assist (since you weren't cutting all the way through). That probably contributed to the flame-up. When I use my laser, if I'm not cutting all the way through (especially when raster engraving wood, for example), I turn the air down to only the slightest trickle -- just enough to prevent smoke from backing up into the lens cone. Doing this also helps to prevent sooting up the surface. Awesome outcome though!
Right around 3 minutes I was wondering why it hadn’t burst in to flame...... In true Diresta fashion , problem overcome. I think I need more books like this in my library. Got my giant razor blade btw, it’s awesome!!!!! Thank you for the great content.
Beautiful work, Jimmy! Just perfect! 😃 To people complaining about the usage of a real book, that would be a fantastic project for an old bible. There are lots of them, they're not rare at all and they are still being printed and sold today. So... Better than discarding it. 😊 Stay safe, everybody! 🖖😊
Love it! I thought for a second it would never be born when I saw the fire. But you worked around the lost pages space with leather. Great job as usual.
I like Bulleit bourbon. I am also a huge rye fan. Bulleit rye is not high on my list, but I see and like the concept of Matching brands. A second glass would be nice if that was a "book" to share with a friend. Another great project from the fine folks at DiResta. Well done Sir.
I have two questions: what book was it, and how does it not catch fire... oh, wait. Love how he just makes ideas come to life. Could have just replaced the pages with a block of wood, but what’s the fun in that?
The soundtrack was a great choice. The whiskey also a great choice. Your selection in brothers, the best choice. Your skills: epic as usual. Fire safety is necessary for the next book.
I was waiting for the moment . I know it was coming. I was like when is it going to catch on fire, when , oh there it is. Time to stomp Jimmy! Great idea brother. I Love the result.
Two bottles and one glass. That´s a statement.
agree!
Never drink without a measure
Personally, who needs a glass?
"why is this book sloshing?"
"That's the sea section"
Nothing like snuggling up with a good book after a long day 🍻
Watching that book get lasered like "Well this seems like it'll go on fire..."
Same! “I’m surprised that this hasn’t caught fi... never mind. There it goes”
I would have put a lock on the book just to prevent any accidental drop of the bottle(s). Must be quite heavy with those two being full.
I doubt it will stay heavy for long! ;D
It'll be fine.
Jimmy dont drink boys.
@@tomahoks Why would anyone drink a boy?
If he doesn't consume alcohol, he still has friends.
The sentiment holds.
@@DanteYewToob Such a great answer
Perfect for a few little hidden magnets or something,

Interesting project, thanks for posting it.
Thank you so much for posting this Jimmy. I'm so doing this for my son's 40th
Uncle Jimmy, THANK YOU!
With this information right here... ain't NOBODY gonna find my Gold Peak iced tea!
My man

You could cook and cut a steak at the same time with that thing.
Nice, maybe you could use a custom paper cutting die in your press, if you wanted to make a batch of them for sale
Finally a quicker way to make bottle shaped pages, you sir ,are a life saver

great idea, wrong 'Book" to use
The Shawshank Redemption: 'Salvation lies within' .
Beat me to it
Most folks would give me one bottle with to glasses. Not Jimmy! We get two bottles with one glass. Great read! Best book I've seen in years!!
That music jimmy. That’s what started the fire. Nice project. Thanks for sharing.
Nothing like a good book burning to end a Sunday.
Because of your videos, I just started get book binding supplies to make gifts. Note I have to take it up a few notches!!
Love the elevator music :)
I think it's Brazilian, maybe bossa nova... 😄🎵
Its the "smoko" music from scott brown😀
80’s Pornochanchada music.
It's brazilian "bossa nova" flavoured elevator music.
@@feldemaia po que isso, apesar que realmente algumas tinham este tipo de musica
Well, that was cool! Glad you were able to salvage it after that flare-up. Man, that's scary!
This "book" can be found in the self help section as in help yourself to a shot of whiskey. 📙🥃
Beautiful work, Jimmy! Just perfect! 😃

This is a bible but keep it a secret. 🤫
@@jimmydiresta 😂😂😂😂😂
Technically old bibles are meant to be buried or cremated.
Hell yes I’m making one hide stash from ole lady! Thanks Diresta
I was gonna say I was impressed you didn’t set the whole book on fire, but then you set the whole book on fire.
Great video @Jimmy Diresta
Again my Brother awesome project I love it much love Family I will see you later :)
I hope you kept the cut outs in case you or Taylor want to read the book in future!
Love how you kept pushing on despite the fire lol
Love it! I thought for a second it would never be born when I saw the fire. But you worked around the lost pages space with leather. Great job as usual.
I was thinking that is going to catch on fire.....then BAM. Cool idea thanks for sharing.
I do really love the way you use high technology and old tools in your creations. 😊
Nice save when the book caught fire LoL great job again man!
lindo trabalho ao som do samba brasileiro!!!!! parabéns
AS I AM A SCOTSMAN I LIKE THIS IDEA ALREADY PLEASE DO CONTINUE.
should you not be offended by the use of Whiskey(=burbon) instead of Whisky ?
YES! Bravo Professor Diresta!! 🙌🔥
always fun to watch you work
Lol great hiding place!! Fun video, as always!!
So this is where the line "I drink and I know things." comes from.
My favorite brand, you did it justice!
TSA approved? Nice job.
love the projects as always!
Genius! I'm going to take this big book here and I'll be back later. It's a long book so please don't wait up for me.
I love the inspiration you bring, thank you!
Secret whiskey book vault I so need one of these Haha! Great share Jimmy D! Love this !!! 😎✌🥃💕🙏
Wow, the second I thought "why doesn't that burst into flames?". Bam. on fire. my thoughts are powerful man.

You might want to consider a strap. JUST......in case someone were to grab it off the shelf and not know what it is. Great craftsmanship as always!
Cool. Love whisky. Love books. Love making things. Always love pinching ideas. Not this one tho. Great stuff Mr
Bulletin is my #1 choice. 👍🏻👍🏻. The orange on the inside of the dust cover was a sweet touch . 🥃
Great job Jimmy. Keep up the hard work
Loving that soundtrack!!!!!!!
That's nice
This is a book that i certainly want to read.
Jimmy, I Love Your Work!
I bought one of the razorblades and I love it. It's extremely sharp and definitely worth the money. 👍
How long did it take you to receive once you had ordered it?
E gosto desse canal pq sempre vem com algo novo
Love it Great looking project 🛠👍😊
I have two questions: what book was it, and how does it not catch fire... oh, wait.

Jimmy, you're a genius.
Very cool video bud! So many uses for old books...i can't bring myself to throw any of them away.
Sei sempre il numero uno Maestro
Cool creation and enjoyed the music.
I actually liked the music you used for this video!
Well, the fire added a nice bit of drama!
What a cool gift that would be for someone!
Best opening music ever! No techno super bass, or clap track.
This project is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The soundtrack was a great choice. The whiskey also a great choice. Your selection in brothers, the best choice. Your skills: epic as usual. Fire safety is necessary for the next book.
A most excellent choice of whiskey!
Dude, the music was soooo cool !:)

Nice soundtrack Jimmy! Really cool to listen to some bosa nova while watching your video!
Diresta, congratulations on the soundtrack.
Bossa Nova... ahhh, as smooth as Bulleit Whiskey
I always wanted to play one of those squeaky coconut things
Love love love this brother!! My boys and I love to see what ideas you will come up with on your cnc tools! Want a laser for our work shop now!!
'let me consult the literature'
Gosto muito do seu trabalho Diresta 🤗
"The book, the book, the book is on fire! We don't need no water because Jimmy is around..."
Awesome I’m showing this to my son😂
Great work jimmy
“D” , every time I think you can’t best your greatest idea you do, your the man !!!
really like your ideas (and your process of course) you inspired me to be a better maker
Very cool, nice job.
AMAZING MUSIC! I love it so much haha
Nice. Only thing it's missing is a string/button system to preventing from opening
got me back reading hard cover books... lol
Cool video and build. Mahalo for sharing! : )
This build is 🔥🔥🔥!
Boa música, bossa-nova com cuíca acompanhando.
I'm gonna start hunting through thrift stores (when they reopen) for old books so I can make places to keep my leatherworking tools now! 😄
That’s next level holy water.
Nice idea and very well executed! How did you manage to recover the paper from the accidental fire? how do you get rid of the burnt paper smell?
Now that a book i like to read Jimmy.😉
Hey what's all this "using a regular size razor blade" stuff? You've changed DiResta! 😂
That’s really cool! Love the music you had going to.
Im not the only one that catches stuff on fire. 🤣 truly love and anxiously wait for new videos. Thanks Jimmy.
Always great to see what you've been up to Jimmy! I miss the "everyman" projects though... :)
A magnet to keep it closed would have been cool. Great piece.
This is mad cool man 👍
Honey, I told you not to bother me when I’m reading!
