DiResta Leather Wood & Steel Stool

In this video I make a set of wood stools for my kitchen. If you follow me you know I make stools often, and I am in search of the perfect stool design!!! These wood stools with a steel foot rest and a leather top, was an exercise in using the new 12’ long papermakers lathe I recently purchased. I decided to make the foot rest in steel because it seems like first to break in any other stool design. I had to weld in place because it would have been impossible to assemble as one part.
I had to use the machine shop to fabricate a steel die to match the tapper on the leg where the foot rest collar will live.
And thank you to Weaver for sponsoring this video. The leather top was the inspiration for this design and this video.

    Old school plus new school.
Ancient tools given new life, and new tools given old wisdom and creativity to really shine!
    You, Jimmy are an inspiration!
I love the mix of skills, tools, and materials you use, and you never do the same thing twice! Always pushing your limits, always testing the limits and capabilities of your tools.
You're the Alton Brown of making!
Creative, scientific and artistic in equal quantities and mixing new and old techniques together to make something new and amazing!
    I'm gonna go make something!

From a fallen walnut tree to a work of art. “In a world where news of inhumanity bombards our sensibilities, where grasping for things goes so far beyond our needs, where time is squandered in busyness, it is a pleasure and a privilege to pause for a look at handiwork, to see beauty amidst utility, and to know that craft traditions begun so long ago serve us today.”
