Not sure how many times I’ve come back to rewatch this. I restore antique Louis Vuitton, Goyard trunks so I’ve done all of this individually. I’ve learnt so much from this one video. It’s filled in a lot of blanks I had of the techniques. Is this work? Hobby? Cheers. Darren.
Hi Darren, thanks for your encouragement - it's just a hobby for me but I have been woodworking and leatherworking for a long time now....how interesting that you restore trunks - is that enjoyable work? Yes trunk making is harder than it looks - the workshops in France start with pre-drilled leather and plywood and will have access to the right tools and materials which was certainly not the case here but I managed to end up with something fairly close I think and I am really happy with it...warm regards

Great video. It inspired me to do the same myself. By curiosity, which type of canva did you use?
Thanks glad to hear it as it’s a great project and you end up with something a bit different. There is also a talking video on my channel which may help. The canvas is 1mm checkered from an Etsy supplier in Turkey but I looked and it’s not listed anymore but there are others on there that look good 👍 bon courage
How are you going to finish the inside.
see part 2 of the video on my channel, cheers
On an old steamer trunk the center latch is a locking one.
it is locking too, cheers
I’d love to have a plan and materials list, then I could never make my own.
😂 thanks for watching cheers
can you add links to where you go the materials?
Links are already in the comments cheers
@@boreoff can you add them in the description so its easier to find? You have named them but cant find the links to the sources.
Can you link where you bought the supplies?

Part 2 is on my channel, cheers
Can you tell us where you found the checkered canvas I don't have space for a trunk but would love to make a jewelry box
Hi there, I bought 1mm canvas off Etsy, really good quality and not cheap but worth it...thanks for watching, cheers
This is amazing. Always wanted to know how they make these. Where did you get the brass hardware from?
Thanks - appreciate it - Japan..in the end!!
Do you have a link? I wanna try make one myself
thanks for watching, no problem, finding decent hardware was not easy as the branded trunk makers have in a large part acquired the whole supply chain including even specialist tool makers making it very hard for DIYers like me....I have had a few questions on this so I will gather some links and post them on the video description later today when finished work...cheers
www.la-malle-en-coin.com/fr/ try this company for the hardware, they have everything that you need in solid brass, cheers
