    I had the JB1 on my 2016 Golf R and loved it! Amazing power and George from Burger Motorsports was a joy to work with. I now have their JB4 on my 2019 Type-R and its even better thanks to the bluetooth functionality with their app. You can monitor several digital gauges, data log and switch maps on the fly...it's phenomenal and best part again is there is no flash or checksum file left behind on your factory ECU ;b Cobb is a great option too but their OST maps are really prevalent to knock, at least on the Subaru and Evo platform. Pro tunes are definitely the way to go for this route.

    2 question from Italy 🇮🇹
    First one:
    I'm not sure of that, but in all these case you can only modify the ECU changing the code with a new pre-written code and you can't access at single parameters changing them as you want wright?
    Second one
    How can you be sure that the mechanic contest is robust enough to support the increase of power ?

    The thing to remember with a piggyback or a handheld tuner is that you're adding another point to your system that is equally as capable of failure as any individual component in your vehicle's CANBUS system. Is it rare? Yes, but it can happen. I've seen an Accessport brick an ECU before while trying to unmarry it so that the maps could be updated. And while Cobb did replace the ECU as well as the Accessport in that instance, the owner's only vehicle was incapacitated for over 2 weeks. It's a real risk that nobody weighs when effectively further complicating the already complicated computer network in their vehicle. Native tuning, with a laptop and cable, is still going to be the most reliable way to tune, either on an OEM ECU, or on a standalone if that isn't an option, providing the tuning itself is done by someone truly knowledgeable enough to tackle it. The risk, in my mind, is not worth the ease of the other options.

    I have a cold air intake and catback exhaust. Can I tune it myself with just a laptop and some software? I mean the mods ain't much but it's certainly taking in air and dispersing exhaust on a level the ECU wasn't programmed to, so a tune will bring out the most of what I have. I just wish I knew more.

      I hate when people say this although I know what you mean, all you’re doing is adding fuel. You’re not getting any more air, you can’t pull out or add any timing, You can’t map the fuel delivery, I could go on. But adjusting the screw on a carburetor is hardly the same thing as tuning. Yeah it’s free but it’s hardly as effective.

      Lone Rider You can cause irreparable damage to the ECU just by winging it on your own. Best case scenario, you don't make any more power. Worst case, you completely disable your car. Learning on your own is great, but it just isn't worth the risk imho

    I wish you would have addressed the pitfalls to each of these....piggybacks can be quite dangerous since it's "tricking" the ecu and in all cases, a backup ecu just for tuning (a clone of what you have) should be used for the tuning just in case.

    trying to find a way to tune my 1990 vw corrado g60 would like to add a few things but I want to be able to tune it before I do it. Its got an obd1 port so I cant tune it with a hand tuner and cant find any piggy or standalone tuners for it. would really appreciate it if you could help me out.

    Wonder if the civic type r will just go stand alone since the ecu hasn't been cracked yet.

    So the 1st tune is the only one that won't void your warranty?

    You need to have a turbo to tune your car like this?

    COBB would be great if they started doing maps for EU market.. all thats left is custom mapping here...

    Does tuning void your vehicle’s warranty? Does it also impact reliability? Thinking of doing this to my Nissan 370Z

    If you are using an access port, is it possible to go back to stock like a piggyback if the car needs to go to the dealer?

    Will piggyback ECUs affect we car warranties?

  • @DannySarbs
    @DannySarbs 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So Jermaine said if you tune via the JB4 method, dealers won't notice if the ecu has been tampered with. What's the case with the cobb? Are dealers able to see if you reflashed the ecu and is there a way to hide it if does keep a record of flashes?

    • @rookyandb
      @rookyandb 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most flashers will store the stock tune for you to return to back if need be. The only thing that I know of is if the dealer has to do a software update to the ECU they'll wipe any tune you put on there anyway. It doesn't check what the tune was before.

    Ah, but once you start talking about n/a engines, things become more tricky. I can't just flash tune my 5cyl to develop 220whp, even though it's completely capable. Turbos are a wonderful thing, one day I'll fit one on.
