    I love how Dhar Mann tries to portray gaming as this like, incredibly lucrative job that will make you tons of money, when the reality is that the successful streamers and tournament players are less than a fraction of a percent of the playerbase. Not saying their jobs aren't real, mind, but he makes it seem like a get rich quick profession.

    • @ValtheJean
      @ValtheJean 3 ปีที่แล้ว +68

      @Random Username Absolutely agreed. I've got nothing against anyone who wants to get into that professionally. Just anyone who does needs to be VERY aware of what it takes. Just like any startup business, you need to be prepared to go years without seeing a single cent, and even then you'll be making minimal amounts until you're really high up there. But if you're responsible about it, like getting a part time job just to pay the bills, then go for it....Dhar Mann is literally causing damage to kids by teaching them this is how to go about their dreams.

      A good example is Melee pro players, who even if you were in the top 10, you only made like a thousand dollars versus all the setup you had to get to stay in your best. Till Melee got into Evo, not having a job/backup job would easily make you no money, even if you are great in the game.

      It always baffles me how hollywood(and mainstream studios/news channels etc.) Always seem to go out of their way to make sure nothing involving gaming looks remotely realistic
      The characters are always shouting shit like "WATCH MY 6, WE GOT BOGIES COMING IN!" When actual gamers would say "hey, there's like 5 dudes by that red van across the street"
      The actors look like aliens who have never seen a controller held
      If they type, they have to type in a way that reflects the dumbest moods(God fucking help you if the movie has them typing on 2 separate keyboards)
      They'll always put an exclusive title on the wrong console(so you'll see MGS4 on Xbox, which is not a normal thing at all)
      And you know what the worst part is? This really just applies to the media in whole. I mean, think of any other topic you're personally educated in, and look at how much the news BUTCHERS that topic(i have no clue what your world view/opinions are, but I know FOR A FACT there's at least a few other topics where people like dhar mann try to cover on TV, and they FAIL at it so badly, and you should realize that's how warped their view is on EVERYTHING, they really that delusional they think this is a decent video/message)

His fraudulent IRL practices and his existence as a non made-for-kids (and therefore profitable) point to him getting a special place on the platform - YT disowned Pewdiepie just for political "controversy", as well as allowing copyright strike spam to take place on channels even at the level of Jacksepticeye and the like. When you make this a guy in his mid to late 20s then he SHOULD know better! This totally feels like a situation where they wanted to get a kid but there was a scheduling conflict so they just didn't care and put whoever they could get in the role. In addition to the whole "presenting gaming as an easy career to make big bucks off of" thing (which many commenters have pointed out), it's pretty messed up how the mom is presented as in the wrong for being mad at her son for using her credit card without asking--especially with the family already in debt. Not that she's a saint, given how she only apologizes and supports her son's ambitions when it starts bringing in a bunch of money (much like the girls-can't-be-gamers video)
    And yeah, it would've been better to cast a younger actor to play the son's role. If he were younger, it could be assumed he's just started his pursuit of a gaming career, thus explaining his living at home and the video's depicting the mom as being unreasonable. As is, he looks about 30 and it can assumed he's been living at home for years and that the mom is just at her wit's end.

    Dhar Mann videos convey, whether intentionally or not, that you are not worth considering as a minority, or gamer, or whatever, unless you can succeed. We saw it with the gamer girl video. The moral of the story was that the girl deserved to be a gamer, not because of any basic consideration that you should give to any person wanting to express their autonomy, but because she was able to impress her mother with her skills.
    This message is not pro women, pro minority or anything. The central message in these videos actually runs counter to everything a social progressive stands for. These videos actively play into the notion that if you want to do a thing but you are not in the majority identity of people who also do this thing (a girl gamer, or a gayboy basketball player), then you have to PROVE your worth. In Dhar Mann Land it's not enough for minorities to be treated with the same level of default respect as you would for the people in the majority, but, as a minority, it's your job to prove your worth for those who would tell you you can't do a thing based on an identity that has no bearing on that thing in the first place.
    Dhar Mann is a worthless conn artist who makes stupid cruel videos for stupid cruel people.
    Unironically, (I say this with the utmost level of sincerity) you will find better morals in Doctor Seuss books. You will find better morals and rules to live by in the fables of old or any number of picture books made for children. Dhar Mann is worse than worthless from a moral standpoint. He is actively contributing to the roadblocks faced by minorities still to this day and he's either too stupid or too cold to know or care.
