I really hope the whole biopic craze ends soon. While I didn't hate 'Bohemian Rhapsody', I absolutely loathed the ridiculous amount of overhyped ads, sponsors, and merchandise that came out of it. It made the entire movie seem like some cheap cash in on a man's legacy, which is the same reason why i'm weary to see the Elton John and Tolkien biopics. I worry for what influential figures hollywood will try and bastardize next.
Great that the movie introduced a whole new generation to Queen's music, but people still can only name 5 Queen songs goddamn it.

But the movie has some really dumb moments especially the part with the daughter the the gun with blank bullets just felt completely ham-fisted. So it had those good moments but overall got a boost just from its subject matter and not the actual parts that made it a movie.

I really liked Bohemian Rhapsody!! I'm English, and my dad saw one of Queen's shows live, he thought it was great. It's not supposed to be a documentary, it's a movie about Queen. Not a documentary. It's not supposed to show the full story, and it's fine if they change some things.

That would have to be Infinity War. That movie had some 2500 VFX shots, about 96 percent! The stipulation of eligibility for animated films is they be 75% or more animated and Infinity War crossed that line, spat on it and stomped it flat!

And yet, they fell into the greatest depression when Green Book won. No one lost money, no one won money. Just a massive anti-climax.
It kind of deserved those awards. Didn’t deserve a best picture nom though.
I’ve heard that Bohemian Rhapsody won best editing because they knew the editor had to do so much on his own and basically without a director. Still not good justification for bad editing, but at least it makes the win slightly more understandable

Oh, Roma was directed by Alfonso Cuaron? That man's got such a good track record in film-making. His adaptation of A Little Princess is one of my absolute favorite childhood classics.

The only award that I'm glad won was Into the Spider-Verse. It's nice to see the Oscars put away their favoritism to Disney & Pixar for actual effort and amazing artistry.
Now they can go back to automatically giving the awards to Disney once Toy Story 4 and Frozen II gets nominated next year.

@@1997residente As much as I love the trilogy, the Oscars will still give it to Disney. I wanted HTTYD 2 to win, but it went to Big Hero 6 instead. Not a bad movie, but by comparison, HTTYD 2 was a lot better.

@@Stew91 I don't hate Disney and Pixar. I'm just saying it sucks that the Oscars prefer their movies while there have been other movies that deserves the award more. Even the voters admit that they haven't seen any of the other nominees (including the foreign films) and just give it to the studio just like that.
If Toy Story 4 turns out to be the best animated film of the year, then yes. I wouldn't mind it if it won.
I don't watch the Academy Awards if I can avoid it because the Academy doesn't watch animated movies if they can avoid it. But this commentary was much more entertaining than just watching the annual festival of drunken celebrities patting each other on the back for two hours.
