    I have not tried both batches head to head yet, but I have a general statement in response to your line “I hope JD brings back the quality of batch 1”. In my opinion, as long as both batches are quality whiskeys (which you seem to agree with), it’s kinda cool that they are different. If every batch tasted like batch 1 as a consumer I’d have less interest in acquiring the next batch. Variance keeps things fresh for me.

    It is great that JD is continuing to put out these older age dated products for the prices they do. Sure they will be different. Some batches will be awesome and others just good but either way all nice to sit and drink.

    JD 12 last year was a top 3 bottle for me. Batch 2 is my favorite bottle I’ve gotten so far this year. I paid $115 for this years batch.

    As usual, we are simpatico on this whiskey. Batch 1 was just in a different league. Batch 2 was really good, but more in line with past efforts. I got the banana, but it came off more as plantain than banana Runts. I also got a toffee note on the nose, apart from that, our notes line up. I think the finish is the best part of the pour. It is not really fair to compare Batch 2 to Batch 1. I bought all of the Batch 1 I could get my hands on, including on secondary. I won't be buying any of this on secondary, but will buy any bottle I find at MSRP, which is an indicator of where I think this is quality-wise and price-wise.
    The more interesting comparison to me is this year's B3 10 year bourbon vs. the B2 12 year. I might prefer the fruitiness of the 10 year, but it is really close for me. As to the idea of including older barrels, I can't remember where, but I heard a rep from the company discussing it on a podcast and that is not the case. These barrels were specifically put aside for these products 10 and 12 years ago and are all from the same vintage year the same as BTAC. They have not been in the business of selling high aged spirits, so they don't have a large amount of aged stocks sitting around like Wild Turkey and Heaven Hill. The good news is that I believe he said that they plan to release another age stated product that is even older. Hopefully, a 14 or 15 year. Dare to dream.

    Our comments are very similar! Glad to see I wasn’t crazy! If I had an OF 1924 then I’d love to make that comparison cus I feel the step down batch 2 takes might make that an interesting fight. Batch 1, as I said in our video, has something nameless about it that makes it feel LE that is just missing from batch 2

    I have both and go back and forth between the two, but generally find the nose of 01 better than 02, and the pallette of 02 a bit more oily than 01.

    Since my state apparently doesn’t get any jack daniels specialty products (NC) found both the 10 and 12 at a bar while on vacation, liked the 10 a lot more the 12 had about as much oak on the palate as knob 18 which is perfectly fine, would buy both if i ever saw them at a reasonable price and not even think about it, but i don’t think it’ll ever happen.

      Very different. I have EHT BP B12 and it's probably the most candy fruity whiskey I've ever had. JD12 (Batch 1) has a ton of vanilla combined with Dark Fruit, Leather, and brown sugar notes. Hard to compare such different whiskeys. Both are great in their own way though.

    Your sample was off. Batch 2 is somewhat different than 1, but that overwhelming banana in the nose hasn't showed up in any of my tastings. You should also be doing this kind of tasting blind. Cheers.

    As an ardent JD fanboy, I was greatly disappointed by JD12-B1. So much hype and it wasn’t even close to as good as a standard shelf SBBS for me. I tried multiple bottles from friends and bars. Some were slightly better than my own bottle, but none worthy of being lauded as a WOTY. I will gladly stick with my variety of other JD products and skip this release as well.

      Baker's 13 > JD 12?

    • @cartermayfield
      @cartermayfield 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If JD SBBS is your profile, yeah, the JD12 doesn't line up with that. I love it for its similarity to King of Kentucky. Not the same, but some similar notes that made it special, but special in a Brown Forman kind of way as opposed to a Jack Daniel's kind of way. If you wanted banana and cherry fruitiness and big proof it wasn't your jam the way Coy Hill probably was.

      @@cartermayfield KOK is one of my favorite pours of all time. For me JD12 is not even remotely in that same conversation. For me the closest cousin would be ETBiB. Those are a way more fair comparison. OF1924 is another close one too. I think I have my next blind flight lined up.

    • @cartermayfield
      @cartermayfield 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jondilly1974, there is a specific note that, to me, is the primary note on KoK. I call it a tar-like molasses. Like maybe molasses and creosote. Cam calls it vanilla and molasses. I am very sensitive to it. I refer to it as “the KoK note.”
      I get that note on a couple of bourbons. KoK (obviously), Rhetoric 25, JD12 batch 1, and the ‘23 M10B A-series barrels. Some people know exactly what I’m talking about. Others think I am crazy. Fair enough. In OF1924, that note is just starting to form and it comes off like dusted chocolate (like I get on a dusted chocolate almond). ETBiB doesn’t come anywhere close to having that note. It’s too young. And yes, I’m talking about the black plastic cap ET. This note has to come from extended age in the BF cooperage. I don’t think it can come from anywhere else. Cam has discussed that on this channel in the livestreams and in some videos… but if you can’t sense the note, like I said, you probably think we are crazy or making it up.
