- Watch Ken and John from the Speakeasy Podcast make some Poor Man's Pappy! They fast forward 2 weeks later and do a blind tasting of the Poor Man's Pappy side by side with the real deal, Pappy 15 year. Will they tell the difference?!? Which one do they prefer?!?
That's nice having an extra Antique 107 sitting around. First time watching, subscribed. Cheers
Thank you very much 🍻
If both of you either did or didn’t swap the position of the glasses, how can you treat them as the same glasses when tasting them?
As long as the glasses are consistently switched (or not switched) for Ken’s 2 glasses and John’s 2 glasses they will always be the same order of bourbon for each person.
Nope.
Ya gotta do a Double Blind with the blends.
Blind = you know what’s in the blind but not exactly what you’re drinking
Double Blind = no clue what you’re drinking, but might know a theme.
Triple Blind = no clue what you’re drinking.
For this particular "experiment", doing it this way made the most sense. We can always look into in the future though.
A double blend doesn’t make sense for this. Double blind is good to see how good something is in general. A regular blind is better for seeing which of two particular things is better.
I have done this version, I also substituted foolproof for the 12, and I recently did a third version where I split the 40% between well or 12 and foolproof so there were three going into the mixture and amongst my friends that was the best and closest in taste so 60% 107 20% foolproof and 20% 12
I wonder how the Poor-er Mans Pappy compares to the Poor Man’s Pappy and Pappy 15. Tried it a few years ago and was alright. I’m pretty sure it was 2/3 Maker’s Cask Strength to 1/3 standard Larceny. Gotta love blending things for science. Cheers guys
Good job!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!
What about Weller full proof, Weller 107, and 12. Should come to like 105.
That'll be a pretty expensive blend, haha. Probably good though.
Canada house + R&R = 👍💯🏆
Pappy van winkhole ✴️
How did you know when you drank of the first glass that they weren’t different- your comment to each other were similar yet they could have been different whiskeys, but weren’t by chance? 🤷🏼♂️
Both guys were consistent on either switching or not switching each pair of glasses on both sides. Because they were consistent on switching each participants glasses (2 and 2) per side, they will always be drinking the same bourbon if they follow the same order (glass on left, then glass on right).
If they switched or didn't switch why are they having the same results in the same glass order
I think one would or wouldn't switch glasses for both sides then the other would come in and switch or not. Not the best way to do it though. I think they should of had a third party pour and place the glasses and also lose the stickers.
"Poor man"....
wasn't this 100 proof?
