    Story :-
I am a single man in my early 30s, with a younger brother who is 29 and has four children. He had his first child at the age of 22, followed by another a year later, a third two years after that, and the fourth a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, I do not get along with my sister-in-law as she always tries to act superior and get a rise out of me, and when I retaliate, she becomes an extreme self-victimizing drama queen who can cry at the drop of a hat. My parents and brother adore her, despite knowing how she really is. While she is very attractive, her awful personality makes it impossible for me to be attracted to her. Moreover, she refuses to work despite having a college degree, and my mother looks after their children all day, so their finances are entirely dependent on my brother.
Growing up, my younger brother was obviously the favorite, which led to him developing a superiority complex. He was physically abusive towards me on several occasions, flirted with my first girlfriend to the point that she broke up with me, and laughed at my misfortune. My parents would always tell me to suck it up whenever I was upset about it, and I only received equal treatment when they wanted to maintain appearances in front of other people. After moving 150 miles away from them, I was low contact and would only see them on holidays. However, I lost my job and couldn't renew my lease on my expensive condo due to the pandemic, which left me homeless. I sold most of my possessions, bought a $1000 camper, and planned to park it at my parents' house. However, they refused to let me stay without charging me the same amount as a rented apartment, which was too expensive for me. My brother and his wife joined in on mocking me for being homeless and living in a camper. I ended up parking my camper in a store parking lot and feeling scared that someone might break in.

I moved my family 1,400 miles away from my family and my sister demanded I get an extra room so they can come visit whenever they want. I told her we planned to get an extra room ... Because my partner works from home and needs an office. She was pissed. I was ecstatic.

Now that its just us two, i kinda wish my bro, and his family felt close enough to demand i had room for them to visit me.
Theres room regardless, but its not like it would be considered. Theyre in their own world, but invite me for all the holidays. But i suppose maybe i should be careful what i wish for.

I count myself lucky that my own family is as far from toxic as can be, and I would completely trust any one of them in a heartbeat. While our family does have a black sheep, he was booted from the family back when I was still very young (I was only around 8 years old at the time) and he wasn't even a blood relation, he was only part of the family via marriage, and after how he'd treated my cousin (his own daughter) and what he'd tried to do to his own father out of pure greed, he got the boot from the entire family, including my aunt & cousin, really damn fast. He was so bad that my cousin doesn't even refer to him as her "dad" or "father", she just dismissively refers to him by his first name. The guy was such a scumbag that his own father disowned him and completely wrote him out of his will, and when his father eventually passed he was banned from attending the wake and funeral entirely. He's such a pile of garbage that if I ever met him today I'd have an incredibly hard time restraining myself from just hauling off and slugging him in the face....and I abhor violence. My cousins are more like younger siblings to me, and as the oldest out of the four of us, I'm *very* protective of them, even though they're all perfectly capable of taking care of themselves.

I have two younger brothers. The youngest is my Mom’s favorite and my other brother was my Dad’s favorite. I admit it took me years to realize this, but it is what it is. But it was me ( the daughter) who took my Dad to every Dr. Appointment, took care of things needed to be done at their house since my brothers had moved away. I had to call them and get them here the weekend before my dad passed away from 52:23 cancer and I now live with my Mom because she has dementia. ( my husband passed away less than two years after my Dad passed). Even though my mom refers to her favorite son for doing so much for her, she recently changed her will to say that I will inherit the house instead of selling it and splitting it three ways which the original will stated. My brothers were informed of it, and one of my sister in laws had a fit about it. Luckily my brother stood up for me, and said I deserved it since I have been the one taking care of my parents. Thank goodness I won’t have to go thru the crap show OP has had to.

While I hope that works out for you, a word of caution, don't hold your breath. I and my mom were the primary caregivers for My grandparents. They left my handicapped daughter a home on a small piece of land so that she would always at least never be out in the street since my health is terrible. They left it in a family trust that was "unbreakable". After they passed both uncles ganged up against my mom and I and managed to spend literally thousands out of the trust money to ultimately take my daughters home away from her. These two brothers never got along with each other a day in their lives until then when it benefited them to screw someone else. The sad thing is all of THEIR kids had been given homes and property to live on. BOTH brothers over the years had been given successful businesses as well. Greed has no boundaries when push comes to shove.

    • @gamester512
      @gamester512 ปีที่แล้ว +1

My aunts and uncle all have a good relationship with my own parents, and when my grandmother passed away on April 2nd of last year (exactly one week to the day after she'd turned 99), they were actually against receiving money from my grandmother's will because my parents and I had been the ones taking care of her for the past 9 years, and they didn't want to accept the money (they eventually relented and accepted the money after enough persuasion from my mom). My mom had to very aggressively and stubbornly try to convince them to take the money since it's what my grandmother wanted (my mom even tried to enlist my cousin's help by getting him to hide the money somewhere in my aunt & uncle's house when we visited them a while back, humorously enough, and we all get a good laugh out if it now). Our family is very close and tight-knit, even though most of us live a long ways away from each other now (in the case of myself and my parents, we all live about 7-8 hours away from them if we travel by car, and my mom hates flying since she's not good with heights, so we only travel by car).

Christmas Eve or Christmas day night, I had to be there earlier than normal, was under the weather to boot, so after I had already been working 8 hours, she finally shows up. I was supposed to leave like 5 am, but stayed to finish something an extra hour. Well, she kept saying her boyfriend my boss, wouldn't care or mind if I stayed an extra 2 hours so she could go home earlier, and I kept telling her I didn't feel good, and was staying longer, plus, I started like 4 hours before she finally bothered showing up. I'm suspecting op's mom was finally sick of her daughter in law never helping out with expenses, barely taking care of her kids and never having the house to themselves because of Dan's kids. That's why she was so insistent making op move Dan into his house.

I am a retired therapist and can answer your question. Yes, there are people like this in the world though I would usually characterize them as in desperate need of intervention from a trained objective person outside the situation (read as mental health professional) as opposed to strictly labeling them as dumb. How do I know? I have treated people like this before. Being “dumb” gives the family a pass because in theory they are too stupid to understand what they are doing and calling someone “dumb” gives them a reason to strike back at the insult. An outsider (such as a therapist) has the opportunity to make objective observations and provides concrete facts about the situation make it much more difficult for the family to attack the outsider with anything other than “you don’t understand” to which the therapist would request them to explain and the explanation can be reframed by the therapist to provide alternative view points. In this case it is unlikely that will ever happen because the parents, brother, and SIL don’t seem likely to speak to anyone who fails to provide an echo chamber for their views. I truly wish OP all the best as he continues to build his life.

the world's pretty big... after seeing my uncle/aunt's blatant favoritsm of my cousins and another family having a fucking hidden 'family' than the one we know.. yeah.. i think people can be this stupid. documents are just papers afterall..
I mean, the fact that the brother & SIL tried to forge a paper saying they're renting... I've seen forged marriage certificate.. and they somewhat get away with it to some degree... as in, they used it to get married on a different church than the one my cheating uncle was in when he married my aunt... and it worked! and yes the sidechick knows she's marrying a married man. Tho that degree ended when shits are on the court.. unfortunately the shitty uncle's dead (it was a 2nd family showing up on the funeral kind of debacle) already sooo.. anyway.. you'll be surprised how much forged documentation can work on the spot/if its authenticity aren't checked first. Honestly, IF for example... OP's out vacationing and Dan's family moved in.. they could get away with it for sometime but enough to claim squater's rights or something along those lines... and IF there were neighbor & police even get suspicious, they'd just show the forged paper and people tends to accept it at face value...
I'm fortunately grow up in a family with minimal amount of favoritsm.. i'd say we're all equal but mom&dad prioritize some aspects of our lives that need more attention at the time. Like... when my sis's on an important exam, me & sibs are sidelined until she's done.. when my international school need more money than the others (cuz i'm kinda the best at english langguage in our house, so my parents send me on international class).. when Big bro wants to continue on his masters.. and well, traditionally my brother's the only one to inherit the family name but idc abt that anyway .. etc... however, we have this uncle.. who used our yard for chicken farming (due to size and location, long explanation...) anyway.. he has 2 sons. The oldest obviously the golden child.. he even somewhat get away with impregnating his gf before marriage (which's frowned upon where i am) atleast by marrying his wife and assuming 'responsibility'. The thing is, dude's a bum.. couldn't hold jobs for long & lazy af... his wife worked while he play phone all day.. I heard he's working at package delivery but i'm not really sure how he's doing rightnow. The younger at the time had just finished vocational school. Anyway, back to the uncle... My bro/dad were into some business.. they're thinking of taking the younger son on the venture.. as helpers/staff of sort. They spoke to/on the uncle's presence.. this uncle had the audacity to tell my bro/dad to take his oldest instead.. since he (at the time) recently got out of job (that he can't hold) and that he (at the time) had a son to feed. Meanwhile his youngest' still only have a girlfriend and thus has no dependent.
Like... idk.. maybe his logic sound to some degree... but saw that it's like he's sabotaging his youngest to favor his oldest. Why not just offer both? like "Oh, you're planning to hire my youngest? can my oldest too?" but noppe.. it's like "Oh, my oldest need job more than youngest, pick him" like wtf? mom said he's just looking out for his grandson... but I saw that as punishing the youngest for not randomly making babies when they're not ready.. and yes my bro/dad's still taking on the youngest than the oldest.. There are other instances where the favoritsm's way too obvious... I won't be surprised if the youngest went low contact with his parents after getting independent (still live in their home, which is normal where I am.. ). Btw, if not for my paren'ts really low rent, the oldest would still live with his parents too.. along with his wife & kids.. They did in the beginning of marriage, but uncle & aunt asked for one of my parent's rent unit at absurdly low price.. like.. i'd think less than 30% than they should. My parents are pushover so they oblidge but on higher rate than the ask.. but still under the 50% market price. My bro's helping the youngest's career too I think.. but we stopped talking about it to uncle.. just go straight to the young cousin..

There are families that have that belief that the older child should help and provide for the younger ones it's ridiculous, but it does happen,I bet he was the eldest but also there might be something dark going on like some event or maybe he looks like so.e family member they hate or something, that tends to happen, my mom for example looks alot like her dad and my grandma hated her husband so she always treated less than her other kids because of that oo and expected her to give up her stuff for them so that isthat it is a possibility.

There's more updates since the and it gets even crazier. It turns out the 4th kid isn't Dan's kid and SIL showed her true colors. To summarize what happen: Dan did a paternity test on his first 3 kids and thankfully they were his but the newborn wasn't, Dan and the parents have began trying to make amends to OP and be better people, Dan divorced SIL and got his name removed as the father from the affair baby's birth certificate, Dan asked OP if he could borrow the camper because he's giving up his room at the parents house to his only son so he wouldn't have to share a room with his two sisters, OP has now become an uncle to Dan's kids and has a good relationship with them, and SIL kept harassing and tried attacking OP after the divorce and got a restraining order against her. Read OP's posts for the full context.

The other option that may not be as convenient is utilizing a truck stop. You are allowed to stay there not sure if there is a time limit and most of them have showers you can use. @@808yorkie Well, it technically depends on the person and if they're able to handle more than 3 children usually. But you're absolutely right in this case, OP's good for nothing brother and sister in law should've gotten fixed after the 3rd child because they clearly can't handle a large family.

Can't blame the kid for kicking because of what the adults were saying to him (lies) about having his own room and such. That kid and his siblings are going to have a rough life with the parents and grandparents they have. OP doesn't have a wife and kids yet, but one day may have and needs his home free of parasites.

Not too long ago, the OP of the story actually did get a restraining but only against SIL. Why only her? It's turns out that the 4th kid she had wasn't Dan's kid at all and that's when her true colors were revealed. To summarize, Dan did a paternity test on his first 3 kids and thankfully they were his but the newborn wasn't, Dan and the parents have began trying to make amends to OP and be a better people, Dan divorced SIL and got his name removed as the father from the affair baby's birth certificate, Dan asked OP if he could borrow the camper because he's giving up his room at the parents house to his only son so he wouldn't have to share a room with his two sisters, OP has now become an uncle to Dan's kids and has a good relationship with them, and SIL kept harassing and tried attacking OP after the divorce and got a restraining order against her. Read OP's posts for the full context.

The fact that this guy had any contact at all with these people after he moved out at 18 is just amazing. Going back to them in his 30's thinking they would welcome him was naive and he should have known better. I wouldn't care that they had kids or not. They would have gone to jail. I would have filed restraining orders on ALL of them. This guy wanted his family to love and accept him and it's sad that it took so long for him to understand that they don't care about him and have no respect for him at all. Blood doesn't always make family. Sometimes you have to go to people you aren't blood related to to find your "family". I feel lucky that I have wonderful parents and family. Every time I hear a story like this it makes me very sad for the person going through it but very thankful to have the family I have. And friends. I also have friends that I consider family. My family embraces friends as family as well. I'm so happy that this young man still had some family who love him.

Good video to highlight the favored child dynamic in families. In some families I noticed the favored child was the troubled rebellious one, kind of as if the other kids could do well on their own but this child needed extra consideration. And this dynamic did nothing to change the behavior of the child and later adult and the dynamic went on and on. It was mystifying to me that the parents didn't seem to see how they were part of the problem.
And it all seems so weird, but oh so human.

The kid is only 7, I don't fault him for anything or blame him for being angry. He doesn't know any better. Shitty thing to do to those poor kids.

At first I thought what the hell took so long? Why so long to stand up for yourself? Then I remembered my relationship with a couple of my siblings. Nothing like this, but some bad shit happened none the less. I know how long it took me to break those ties. So I guess I'm happy the courage was finally found, and wish to OP the best in life... with a bit of advice. Family is a funny thing, those on your side can turn in a second. There are others that were raised under your same circumstances as you were, and that type of "child rearing" has been learned from other parents in the family somewhere. Be prepared to cut more ties.

There's been more updates since. To summarize, OP's family began to realize how horrible they were and actually decided to start changing for the better and started to make amends to OP. Everyone except SIL because it turns out she was more horrible than you think. In the updates, Dan began to notice that the appearances of kid #4 were different and off. OP, Dan, and their parents all had dark straight hair and so did SIL but the baby had light curly hair. When Dan first brought it up SIL dismissed it by saying that the features were would come in eventually and a couple months later they never did. That's when Dan got the hint and I'm sure you know were I'm going with this. He secretly got DNA tests for all the kids and as it turns out that the first 3 were his thankfully but, unfortunately, the baby wasn't. Long story short, Dan divorced SIL and took her to court where she was accompanied by the affair partner A.K.A the baby's actual father, he successfully got his name removed from the baby's birth certificate, SIL tried to stop him from doing so as she wanted him to pay child support but obviously failed, Dan got custody of his kids, asked OP if he can borrow the camper for awhile as he gave up his room for his oldest son as he wouldn't have to share a room with his sisters any more, OP and Dan are finally getting along and OP has now become a great uncle to his nephew and nieces, and lastly OP got a restraining order against SIL or now known as "That B!tch" by Dan after she assaulted him in his home after all this happened. OP is doing fine, Dan and the parents are making good progress on their amends, and "That B!tch" went back to her parents with the affair baby defeated.
