    This is the best build I’ve seen! I have the same outback; color and everything! I’m a freelance videographer so it’s awesome to see how feasible you’ve made it to work on the road! The desk addition got me stoked. Subscribed!

      I've got a Volvo V60CC -- which is extremely close to an Outback; I'm wondering how much tweaking I would have to do to make this design easily convert to my ride.

    Glad I just came across your channel Chase and especially this video. I have been camping out of my 2015 Subaru Outback for the past 5 years. Always trying to make it more convenient and self contained. Spend a lot time in wilderness areas, national forests, and the like. I have to tell ya, you have done some genius things here to your Outback. I am going to have to study this video and start doing some building myself. I wasn't sure I wanted to remove the back seat, but your divers side back seat with the hanging table/desk is brilliant! Thanks for all the ideas. Take care fella.

    Nice build! My Outback has something a bit more minimal so I can always keep the back seats and folding platform in the vehicle. I made Reflectix covers for my windows as well and added black cloth to them so it is super stealthy. I used cheap blackout curtains from Walmart, cut with about an inch of extra space beyond the reflectix. It is super easy to stick the fabric to the reflectix with 3M spray adhesive. I put them silver side out during the day, then swap them so I can have blackout curtain side out.

    Hands down the best Subaru Outback Camper Conversion! I have been undecided on buying a travel trailer or give it a go with my Outback, and your videos have helped me decide to give my Subaru a GO! I think travel trailers are great, but with the over saturated market and crowded camping sites, I love the idea of being able to truly explore in my Outback Bertha vs investing in an expensive trailer and later then finding it much harder to camp, than I would with car camping. Awesome video, awesome build, awesome mustache! 😊 👏🏻

    Awesome build, you have a lot of unique components and excellent carpentry here! I took the back seats out of my Buick Encore and set it up with a "no-build" approach, but the space is very similarly laid out (always wishing I had six more inches of head space to be able to sit up in bed, LOL). Got a few nice ideas from your build. The working desk is especially cool. Thanks!!!

But a twin size air mattress fits perfectly in the back. I’m planning to switch to a Coleman slim twin soon so I can leave the single back seat up for the dog and to make getting in and out easier.

    Son, my 1st impression of you and this conversion, is this; "Wow 🤩 how creative are you?" Nicely done!! I would like to see some of you freelance creations, as well. Hubby and I just bought our 1st, Subie Outback, in November. We love the National Parks. I too am a photographer. Only way to go is camping like this. I see it as the best way to be where you need to be, so you can wait on the light. That being said, I believe this could be so seriously fun!! I can not wait to show him this.video! I may have questions: How do you make coffee, what is that gizmo? I wonder how you have enough electricity to run a Mac, plus they require wi-fi? Silly little details, lol Thank you for sharing this genius idea!!! I looks so affordable, as well.

    • @itsandrewwise
      @itsandrewwise 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can get a small USB-C car charger powerful enough to charge a MacBook. I use the Satechi brand 72w charger.
      Macs have wifi like any other laptop, but don’t require to be connected to a network to function for normal computer work (apart from web browsing of course)

    Very cool, Chase! I just got a 2020 Crosstrek this past February, and I've been car camping 4 or 5 times so far -- still working out the kinks and getting my system down. On my last trip, I made the mistake of putting my Reflectix window blockouts on top of my car to dry out a little condensation, and I forgot they were up there when I packed up and drove off. Now they're terrifying cows all over northeastern Utah. :( Lesson learned. Thanks for sharing your setup!

    You should do one of two things, or both:
    1) Produce and sell a complete set of plans with a material list as well
    2) Produce the kits for others to buy.
    Just today I looked at, and will most likely buy, the new 2021 Outback, I loved the vehicle.

    Great video! Have a 2019 Outback. What are the dimensions of that drawer in the back where you keep your kitchen ware? Any issues with mounting the rack on top to factory crossbars?

    • @ChaseChristopher1
      @ChaseChristopher1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks Bryan! The kitchen drawer is right at about 8" wide x 10" tall by 20" deep. For the rack I did re-drill the outside mounts to move them in one member and spaced them out a little . This gave the space I needed for my cargo box and the correct alignment with the factory crossbars. It was a easy fix.

    Also, i like the minimal approach. You could convert this back into a normal car pretty easily, or so it would seem. Some people really go overboard with their setups.

    this is perfect, I needed to see this video, I've been wanting to turn my Chevy Tracker into a over night camper and not always sleep in the tent while backpacking, loving the use of space, didn't know how I would handle the side where I would put my box kitchen/storage unit. Loving the hiding spaces you have for storage as well. It's something I believe I could do pretty easily. And the fact that you pack like a backpacker and are very organized.
