Matthias, your mother is not only beautiful but an amazing woman so make sure you look after her. Mother you should be extremely proud of yourself because your camping build is brilliant. It's so cool to see the silverware case that you have. I'm 29 and grew up with many kids having small versions of that SpakeMaker pencil case in school in the early 2000's.
When I saw the intro, I thought it's built by a German. Then the son speaks without akzent and I was confused. But the secret is the mother. Congratulations to this build. Really the best Mini camper ever. Top details, top ideas, top done.
This is fantastic! I think I got a dopamine hit just from looking at how organized everything is! Question for Helga: In your travels, are you looking to be alone in various locations or do you do a lot of socializing, meeting new people, etc.?

Very cool build! I have a 2017 outback as well and did a build last year but want to rebuild now that Ive spent a few months traveling/camping in it and know more about what I want. I really like the drawer system and overall layout.

I look at Chases channel as well. I love your build. Very simply packed. Van city van life just recently shared a video of a very creative van build with one of their meet ups this summer. Ive got German blood in me as well. Ill be subscribing to your channel. Im 57 with a no build set up. I learned about that from Mini Van Lee.

I'm sick of tired of sleeping in my corolla and decided to get an outback. My father has helped me out with all my builds and projects over the years but there is one thing he requires is plans plans plans.... do you happen to have anything drawn up that you would be willing to share?
Even though my needs are different as i got a bunch of solar equipment and an RV fridge to keep my insulin cool he still wants to see plans and not watch a video.
but very neat build and very well done. nothing like mine over the last decade.

Also, how much wattage does your electric collapsable kettle require? Would love a link for that, too, for when I get a Jackery. Very clever how you housed yours with access to plug in.

What a great idea for those who can sacrifice the back seats and trunk area. I could. It doesn't really look that complicated for those who are handy and crafty. You really should be proud- you did a great job and I hope you get out often and enjoy it. At 3:10 she gives credit to Chase, but I can't understand the website she mentions. Can you give us a link?

Secondly, I wanted to ask what sort of material you used for the outside of that shelf in the back? The one that is grey. It makes it look really good quality! Plus you dont have to worry about any possibly damage from the wood.

That build is awesome, thank you very much for giving me some more ideas! I do have one question, how do you access the spare tyre when needed?
Hope it helps!! Great question. The drawer system was built to be easily disassembled so if anything happens, the spare can be accessible. Just a couple bolts, then the platform can be lifted up to get to the tire.

Excellent question....we forgot to show that. The platform was built with 3 Piano hinges. So this platform can fold to give access to the spare tire if needed. The drawer will have to be removed to do that but I built it so it is possible. We will have to show that in an upcoming video.
I like your build and that you did it yourself surprised me. I just wonder what do you do when it's raining? Do you just sit in the driver's seat or do you have a tent that you set up?

Fabulous build, I'd love to see more videos of builds, adjustments and camping trips. You two make an awesome tuber pairing! What is the name of the collapsible kettle? I'm starting to exchange my camping equipment to more collapsible and USB (I have a Yeti Goal Zero 400 and portable solar 3-fold panel and absolutely love it on the road and home.) I love Mom's energy. No one appreciates my excitement about being anywhere not inside! Subscribing and looking forward to more!

Forgive my ignorance but what is the advantage of this vs having a rooftop tent and just using the normal trunk space for storage?.
It seems like you'd have just as much space without having to do all the modification to the car.
I am sure that is just a matter of preference. Some people would prefer the security of being able to remain in their locked vehicle while sleeping, and some may not like the idea of having people on top of their vehicle, this system will hold up better in bad weather, and of course, just the simple reason of less set-up when you reach your destination. Also, some people may enjoy camping in the woods and raising a tent that high may not be doable if trees are in the way. You do make the sacrifice of losing your back seats and truck space but that may be a perfectly fine sacrifice for some. Every way of camping has its pros and cons. I think there is no right or wrong way- just preference.
@@shellyross8283 I agree that its preference. To me the roof top tent doesn’t require modification of the vehicle and allows it to retain full use as a vehicle day to day.
Living in New Zealand the safety concerns of being in the locked vehicle didn’t occur to me. I can definitely see that being a concern in some parts of the world.
also the ability to stealth camp in built up areas is a bonus and not possible with roof top tent. Mobility issues could be a factor too.

I really enjoyed this video! Great job! What's the name of the toilet? I have a similar build in my RAV4, but my toilet takes up too much room, your's looks more user friendly.
This is a childs toilet 😆. It works for emergencies. It fits underneath the passenger seat. Look it up on Amazon.
What Thule model cargo box are you using on your video ? I'll like to get one for my outback too
