    Have a look at the new Ibis Cycles Ripley 29 at Jenson USA here: bit.ly/RipleyA...
    I had a blast riding the new Ripley. I’ve owned every generation of Ripley from the original grabber blue model in 2011 to the orange LS to the Vitamin Pee LS. All were great bikes, but this latest V4 revision is so.much.moar! I really enjoyed the steep seat angle and slightly higher BB.
    Big thanks to these guys for making this all possible! Any purchases from these links will directly help support this series as well:

    Writing the book on modern marketing with the Ibis/Jeff pairing. Evil missed the boat with Phil. Well done.

      Awe shucks, thanks Jason! I believe pretty strongly that these bikes are really, really good. And I know first hand that the crew at Ibis is rock solid and really wants everyone to have a great experience with their bikes. It's hard to not get behind a brand like that! And I agree about Evil and Phil, if I ran marketing at Evil, I would be doing TONS with Phil!

    Great first look! What a rad bike and equally rad rider. We think this bike is going to be one of the top choice trail bikes for a huge range of riders. Ibis is absolutely killing it on their bike line. Keep Pedaling!

    One of the most smoothest, stylish, fastest mtb-ers around tube-land. He pumps every trail roller and simply hops over any obstacle that would slow one down.

    Edited version of this video should be THE Ibis marketing video for this bike. You make it look like the most fun a person can have on a bike! I’m amazed you nailed all those hits first time on that trail. Thinking you have exceptional skills.

    Whenever I get into an activity I always try to find people that are great at it so I can watch them for inspiration. You are that for me with mountain biking. Something about your riding style is smooth and fun. I have been riding on and off for about 7 years but just got a new bike and am getting back into it. Your videos motivate me to progress and ride more. I appreciate what you do.

    My old buddy dropped insane mega coin on a bow-ti, you should see the warranty that thing came with, i mean, goddamn... lifetime transferable unlimited no questions asked warranty on the frameset. The promise was 'as long as it exists they are going to stand behind it' and that's how they justified the ridiculous price.... Five days in, the bottom tube cracked, eleven months later he gets it back and they welded the crack up, 10 minutes of riding later the crack opened up and spread all the way to the and of the BB tube and 11 months later he gets it back with the entire crack welded back up..... Get this, 6 returns and 6 years later they tell him that they're sorry but they cant fix it, that's when he learned that "sorry" forgives all warranty responsibilities. i will never forget the look on his face when he realized that he lost the fight, not as long as i live.

      Question for you: For a guy like me having only ever ridden XC bikes in mainly flat terrain, what would be the disadvantage (if any) of going right up to a Ripmo vs the Ripley? It seems most reviews of bikes like the Ripmo are written from the perspective of riders who have mountains and predominantly ride downhill, so they talk about how great peddling the latest generation enduro bikes are. What about coming from the opposite perspective and wanting something more capable and rowdy than an XC bike? How far can I go in the Ibis line before it’s actually a disadvantage?

    Hmm i have really problems with categorizing it as a bike for a average rider. As someone who loves every aspect of mountain biking all i have seen from this bike actually made me realize that a bike like this is missing in my collection. I have actually no bike that i would happily take out for long rides. Something i used to do a lot on my hardtail but back then i had more mellow trails. All this enduro bikes just feel like driving a bus compared to a racebike. Still would love to see this bike with 140-130 . Is the ripmo climbing as good as the ripley? What makes me doubt about the ripmo is the big travel. That would put it again the region of my 2019 rocky instinct bc which i still like a lot so no reason to replace it. So it would have to climb much better than my rocky, hope you can give me some advice. Im in a weird spot as someone who raced xc but now also loves jump trails and dirt jumps. Help i suffer from toomanybikeilose

    • @alcopower5710
      @alcopower5710 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      JKW is a more advanced rider than BKXC but I think the intention from Ibis is to show that all levels of riders can enjoy this bike. There is a super small percentage of riders that I would put in the same category as Jeff so Ibis is very smart to align themselves with both. It would be pretty easy to just sign deals with advanced riders only and ignore the rest. In addition (and maybe most important) I bet Ibis was looking for very particular personalities for their brand to be associated with and in my humble opinion hit 2 home runs with Jeff and Brian.

    @GustavoSanchez64 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    By any chance will you get another go at the bike in the future? I would really like to see the numbers on it when running it with a 120mm fork for a more marathon/xc setup. Keep thinking the bb would be too low with that and your more normal 2.25-2.3 XC type tires.

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ibis raised the BB by 5mm so it'd work better with a 120mm fork. I liked the way the bike pumps as well with this higher BB. I had to delete a big chunk of Colin's talking about this, but check this vid out for more info: th-cam.com/video/aqnQ2si14Ow/w-d-xo.html

    Another great vid, Jeff. It'll be interesting to see what they do to the Mojo 3 next. How does this compare to your Mojo 3? I would think too much overlap.

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question Dan, they are similar indeed but the M3 uses the older style geometry. The Ripley is much more efficient and climbs a ton better with the more modern geo. I'd personally love a more aggressive Mojo 3, which is exactly what my 130/136mm "mini" HD4 feels like. There's so much energy for 29ers in today's market that I'm not surprised the Ripley got the refresh first, but man, a small and aggro 27.5 bike would be so nice!

    Awesome video Jeff! I also loved the Ibis Camp video!
    Wow!! I am super interested in one. As you know I been riding a V1 Ripley. It seems like they made some radical changes to the eccentrics. Since the eccentrics are very similar to the Ripmo's. Have you had any issues with the eccentrics on the Ripmo since you been riding it?
    This new Ripley really looks like a blast to ride. I might just pull the trigger and order one, no demo necessary. I'm guessing it's going to have the same characteristics of the Ripley with the stability of the Ripmo?

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Norbert, thanks for the note. The eccentrics are now gone- the bike instead uses links. The lower link is identical to the Ripmo's, and there have been awesome reports of the durability. I haven't had to touch mine once. The upper link is a similar design to the Ripmo, and those usually last a few years.
      Your hypothesis to the feel of the bike is pretty spot on! I would build up the Ripley with a 140 travel 36 and would probably go DPX2, but that's just for my max aggro riding style. The stock set up is going to work so well for so many people!

    • @mikes.8305
      @mikes.8305 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don Bachek I can speak for him, but as a rider that wants to ride like him I would consider your local trails and riding style. The Ripmo with the x2 can be tuned for big jumps and drops and a bit of the bike park. It can also be super fun on flow trails. I think the Ripmo climbs really good. If you have the rowdy trails the Ripmo was probably the most versatile bike I have ridden. The ripley would not be my first or 10th choice for the bike park. But if I were doing 4-6 hour rides or more flow trails the Ripley looks amazing.

      Hey Roman, for the riding footage I use a GoPro Hero 6 with a GoPro Karma gimbal.

      @JeffKendallWeed  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, more like a tallboy. The 5010 is 27.5, the Ripley is 29.

    I've been thinking about picking up a short travel 29er for my trails that don't need a big bike. This is making me wonder how many pennies I can save up, haha.. Is it DPX 2 compatible?

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep it is DPX2 and X2 compatible!!! Thanks man!

      @mikes.8305 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chump MTB it’s metric size, but unfortunately I don’t think fox currently makes a Dpx2 in that size. So while the frame is compatible the shock doesn’t exist in the right size.

    The new Ripley looks awesome, but can someone explain why carbon frames alone are now $3,000? (when they used to be $2,000 not that long ago). Why are they so much more expensive now? Is a $1K increase really due to cost?

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Greg, carbon frames have been $3000 for about 5 or 6 years now. Costs went up around 2014. Yeti still charges the most, and Ibis/Santa Cruz/Pivot are all similarly priced.

    • @gregcavanaugh6259
      @gregcavanaugh6259 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JeffKendallWeed thanks. Did materials get more expensive in 2014? Or import duties? Or wages in Taiwan? I understand that prices go up, especially as demand increases for these high-end brands, but it just seems odd the frame is 3K and a complete bike is only 1k more.
      Great riding and content. I would like to know more about how the new Ripley pedals. Can it do duty as an occasional amateur marathon or even xc race bike?
