I was thinking the same thing. At first I was thinking that riding around on them day in and day out you probably learn a lot about their operations, but it seems to me like he knows more than just that. Possibly like he may have even worked for a railroad at one point in time? Either way, always interesting to listen and learn more from him

  • @1_lens_view

Great video. I always enjoy the longer narrated versions.
It looks like the eyepiece to your binoculars was glued on to the body, and the glue is what separated at impact. You ought to be able to repair it fairly easily.
Put the eyepiece up to the body and turn it until it is flush to determine the break pattern. This is critical in ensuring your binoculars focus properly once repaired. Once you know how to orient the eyepiece, apply a very small amount of Loctite Super Glue gel or your favorite plastics glue to the facing joint circumference on both the eyepiece and body. Gels are great because they set fast but not too fast. You’ll appreciate they extra few seconds they afford you to get things perfectly aligned. But you don’t want a glue that will set so slowly that things might come apart if you are not holding them. Hold the pieces together firmly until you are sure the glue sets. Try to avoid knocking the binoculars around as much as possible - easier said than done on a train, I'm sure - over the next several hours, and you should be good to go. That joint should be stronger than the original.
    Happy bull-er-bird watching.

Your cool shirt reminded me, I bet you could generate some nice little income with a personalized tee with maybe a cool color picture of an F series locomotive or like that.

Those are the same tracks. The problem is when the only time a westbound train will stop by the zoo, is when it has to wait for another train going eastbound, goes by and clears the line. There are two tracks all the way through town, but they only use one, from Ceader Street, out to Mt. Hope, most of the time. In other words, trains don't stop in Lansing enough for a hobo to get on. All the trains have to stop in Battle Creek to at least fuel up the diesel engines.

At 39:22 just passed Control Point Rose. CP Rose is a control point east of Capital Avenue on the CN main line. This crossover is used to move Amtrak trains using the westbound track at the depot to change to eastbound main line. It is located at milepost 175.0. 'The Creek' is a crew change point for Amtrak. The Pontiac MI crew gets off and the Chicago crew takes the train the rest of the way into the Big Windy. On the 'flip side', the Chicago crew (Including the famous job-board leader Danny U.) get off and the Pontiac crew take over. But these days, with the pandemic, nothing is the same.

I find it interesting how many abandoned truck trailers you see around these abandoned industrial buildings. One day they are useful and have a resale value and then one day they don't. I always assume the reefer broke and someone intended to fix it and then it was simply left to rot.

Shoestring is enjoying life out there! This virus and everything makes me wanna train hop even more.
Mad respect to that guy who found you in the autorack, people say hobos are bad. In my honest opinion, the only true friend I would want to have is a hobo. One that doesnt care about who they are, what they are, and ones that have a very interesting experience.

Don't know how I missed this one. 😂😂😂😂😂Sam Elliot,John Wayne and Clint Eastwood use to come and have a drink with you, that was a good one. You know your train yards as well as train direction and what rails they'll be on. Mark your knowledge is amazing. To bad they don't have train yard tours, you would be perfect to give it.

I love how the closed caption says "music" when the train squeaks or blows it's horn.
