You might be interested to know that Amtrak is in discussion for a new generation of these bilevel cars. According to the request for proposals, the new ones should have a lot more outlets, enclosed gangways between cars, electronic doors lockable from the outside of the sleeper compartments, and single-seat sleeping compartment pods someplace between a Roomette and a business class lie-flat seat. The majority of the operating Superliners (284) are Superliner Is, from the 1970s, about 45 years old with refurbishments since, with 195 Superliner IIs added in the mid-90s and thus about 30 years old. If the contract goes ahead, the plan is for the new bilevel purchase to replace all of those.

been on the empire builder many times and the food is usually really good. the crews have always been very good. traveling in the winter though can be tough due to the weather. i must say the food in chicago is well worth the trip alone lol.
My folks used to take the California Zephyr between Suisun City and Reno, NV during the winter. I took the Ely NV historic train ride and Eurailed thru Europe during November of 87 when it was very snowy, the only one of three Eurail trips I took during snow season. The following day, I took a day trip from Munich to Fussen to visit Neuschwanstein and it snowed there and all the way back to Munich. There is something special about riding the rails in the snow.
@SoloSoloTravel - I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video. I'm guessing this is the first time you're ridden on Amtrak? Winter time isn't the best time to do it due to weather and other delays. Now you should plan that same trip in the summer time. You'd be amazed about the scenery - especially when going through Glacier National Park. I used to ride twice a year from Spokane Washington to Milwaukee Wisconsin and back (in May and September) from 2014 to 2019. It was about a 32 hour ride. I miss doing it any more. As for the meals back then - they were awesome, but as you said breakfast was a bit too much. They used to have pancakes and when you ordered it was 3, but I asked the waiter if I could get only 2 she said sure. Whenever I rode after that and she was in the dining car and I ordered pancakes she remembered me and asked if I only wanted 2! I didn't care for their lunch and supper so I would get those meals from the cafe downstairs in the sightseeing car/lounge. I didn't have a room; I was comfortable doing coach. The seats were wide and you had a lot of room in front of you; not like the airplane seating.
I'm from Illinois and when it's negative out we only go out unless we have to work. I always supply up before it gets that bad out. Sometimes I use a sick day when it's double negative out.

Minneapolis/St Paul are considered the "twin cities" because they are the 2 largest cities in Minnesota and are divided by only the Mississipii river...and about 7 miles from down town to down town. Also the Capital city gets to call itself whatever it wants, and since St Paul wanted to be a twinsies with Minneapolis, that's what it got. Also an amtrak delay is common, and 8 hrs in winter is practically "on time". also negative 20 is barely "big coat weather", though admittedly that is cold for Chicago.
32:25 Good job, soldier! It was indeed a bomb. You saved a lot of people that day. o7 40:42 That was hilarious! Water me papi! 41:56 WTF! What a turn of events! WTF is wrong with people seriously? 44:04 Something about the announcement from the train crew, it was so nice and warm.
King Street Station Reminds me a bit of our Union station in El Paso, Texas. At least King street has train boarding sheds. We don't have winters so no protection for us. At least you had a full dining car and observation car. The Capitol Limited and some trains just have a buffet car.
Wow, I’ve lived at both ends of your journey! And I’ve ridden the Empire Builder, about 10 years ago. We were delayed 20 hours due to slow freight trains.
You were in my home state! I live just north of the Twin Cities. You lucked out and came at a not so snowy time. We had a very cold but not as snowy winter this last year.
Watching you experience stuff I know personally about, and places I’ve been or live is so so cool. I love watching your Japanese content so much, it’s so relaxing, and this was too, just in a new way where I came to appreciate what I’m used to more! Thank you! 😊❤ If I’d known you were so near I would have waved! Lol
A lot of people make fun of the rail system in the US but Amtrak does a lot with a tiny budget. The workers especially really seem to care. The train here just isn’t that popular and doesn’t make a lot of money anymore. Vegan is tough but that’s a choice. I’m allergic to gluten which is very difficult when traveling.
A well done video! I grew up along the Mississippi River (Lake City/Lake Pepin)! When was this trip? A few things I'll point out. In the lounge/snack car, No, they are not selling the condiment packets. you just grab what you need with your food. Your sleeper car is actually is older. It had a full rebuild 10 years ago, and they removed the carpet walls with panel. The other car you went ot the back is newer, but never got the rebuild, It depends on the crew member of their service, some will do their job well with stocking the shower with the shampoo, and others are a bit lazy with no shampoo, just bar soap. The veggie burger, I think it was very good! Sorry you had a major delay in Wisconsin! Sad your train to LA was canceled and sometime mother nature wins.. So, you'll have to come back to the states and ride more trains!
That's cuz we Yanks roam around like buffalo on the plains. After the pleading, comes the tasers. Then we sit down. At least that's what happened in Church.

Автору спасибо, посмотрел с удовольствием - ждем новых видео ! Удачи !
I'd be alright with free snackies after hours of delays. Free food is always a bonus! 😂
This bomb video! :)
По такой метели прикольно на Рождество ехать!🎉
9:43 Отлично ❤ Я так бросила курить. Заменила сигарету на глубокие вдохи и выдохи.

Thank you for your calming and funny videos x
It sounds like Amtrak is very attentive during weather delays. I like that
That big fountain by Lake Michigan is called Buckingham Fountain. In the summer, when it's on, they shine colored lights on it, and it's beautiful!
Thanks for the laughs😂😂😂😂great fun😊😊😊😊looking forward to visiting with you again….happy travels😊😊😊😊
I've lived in upstate ny all my life and I never heard of spinning tje towel trick! Lol that's great!!!
You were in my home state! I live just north of the Twin Cities. You lucked out and came at a not so snowy time. We had a very cold but not as snowy winter this last year.
Great! Thank You very much for travel story!
33:47 I used to live in that yellow house!
Watching you experience stuff I know personally about, and places I’ve been or live is so so cool. I love watching your Japanese content so much, it’s so relaxing, and this was too, just in a new way where I came to appreciate what I’m used to more!
Thank you! 😊❤
If I’d known you were so near I would have waved!
I’m sure it’s still considerably better than any rail network in the UK. Trust me, you guys have it good.
I came here to say I really love your subtle sense of humor. :)

Doesn’t change when you’re in New York on the metro north I’ll tell ya 😂
That's cuz we Yanks roam around like buffalo on the plains. After the pleading, comes the tasers. Then we sit down. At least that's what happened in Church.
This is my weekend to catch up on all your videos!! I’m in heaven!!❤
Супер 👑 видео кайф от него супер красота фантастика ❤❤❤😎 😍 🤩
Solo aolo travel video just dropped in the middle of my Christmas wish list

Дякую вам за подорож, любий Соло-сан! Стільки снігу, морозу! Дуже красиве озеро Мічиган, і засніжені дерева. І вагі жарти- що може бути краще! 💕💕💕 🇺🇦
Eating Burger Upside Down! Thank You for tipping & fun videos!
I loved the spin spin towel! You are definitely one of my favorite travelers! The bunk was scary and seemed extremely unsafe with the flimsy belt.😳😨
I like that your father is sharing some of your adventures. And, no, you don't need to have shoplifter confidence. Lol!
The Empire line goes through my hometown!
