Learn weak spots or pressure points, eyes, throat, stomach, arm pits, etc. Learn submissions and carry, some type of self defense tool.🤔

Yes, I'm older (62) and smaller..but thanks to Bill Wallace's book on flexibility, steady powerlifting weight-training and boxer-type footwork, I'm always underestimated.. Kickboxer, Judo/Jiu-Jitsu, Krav Maga, Plus I was a thug long before they were. I know most of your viewers haven't trained at my level, but try skipping rope until you're boxer perfect, even a senior can get faster. Also consider Brahma makes great steel-toe loafers ... good looking, comfortable, sneaker-type no- slip sole and lightweight..turns front snap kicks to the knee/groin into cripplers. Great work on your videos, my man!

As a lifelong martial artist I feel very confident against most people in a fight. But I also realize how badly I could get hurt against a younger, stronger person. Best strategy is avoidance, and de escalation. Because strength and physicality decline gradually in people who are lifelong trainers, they sometimes don’t notice how much weaker and more fragile they’ve become. Imagine losing just one percent of your strength per year starting at 40. That’s a 20% decline by the time you’re 60. Significant. And most people who don’t train lose significantly more strength per year. I’ve kept weight training journals for the past 20 years. When I look back to what I could lift, even 10 years ago to now, it’s startling.

I’m 55 and have around 30 years of experience in Judo, jujitsu and other martial arts but haven’t been active for at least 10 years. Just wanted to say keep up the great work on your videos and to make a suggestion on my own experience on the deescalating portion of the video. I live in the U.S. and our social distancing is much greater than other parts of world almost anywhere else you could get away with that approach. But I would avoid it unless you’re going to fully commit, getting that close or touching someone would most likely escalate the situation here in the U.S.

Those two things have kept me more safe and prevented so many things turning into outright violence. However, in at least some cases you also get a fucking sight more bad tempered and ready to go the distance if you have to. Your comment was (I feel), spot on. Especially the part about being so angry, that your willing to go as far as you can in a fight, with a younger person. I was homeless, from 2007-2023, in OREGON, SANTA BARBARA, AND SAN DIEGO. I was 57-73 years old. By GODS GRACE, I have been housed, and paying rent for the last 15 months. Also, by the GRACE OF GOD, my injuries were minor, when blind sided attacked, once in OREGON, and twice in SAN DIEGO. No problem in SANTA BARBARA. Only one of the 3 times, that I was attacked, was I able to fight back. Thankfully, my effort resulted in my being able to leave the scene, quickly. The attacker, who was younger than me and drunk, could not follow me. By my description to the POLICE, he was caught, and later prosecuted for assault and battery.

Angelo; i've been karateka from 13th until 45th year. Now i'm training alone in my barn. And yes, i used to be much stronger and faster when i was younger. So now when it comes to fighting, you have to rely on youre experiences. Just simply but effective technics to take youre opponent out. Not so much the flamboyant movements you used to make, haha...
The older i get, the more effective these simple technics become... And it works... ;-)
To get stronger train 2 or 3 times a week, and practice youre pushups! They really make you stronger, in every way. 80 - 100 per session is very effective for youre body.. And you can punch a lot harder....

I am 70 yrs old and train w/ others five sessions a week on a regular basis in two schools: one is blended martial arts and the other a strict wing chun style of close combat. Those who are 30-40 yrs younger are usually who I train with. Those who might threaten me on the street are likely far less trained. Train harder prepares you best. There is never a guarantee to the outcome, particularly when you’ve picked the wrong victim. Eyes, throat, groin and knees become most vulnerable when you forget they’re not.

Good training this lads, i come from a boxing back ground and then went on to street defence training (like what you show here) I can say this kind of training works, I have got myself out of many confrontations by talking and de-escalating the situations I’ve been in, when I was competing (boxing) the only thing I knew was to strike (and fast) yes it won my confrontations but it’s dangerous, I’m nearly 55 now with many niggling injuries, calming the situation down is the way to go, sometimes that’s not enough though (although that’s rare) talking to them (to take their mind of the situation) works every time, then palm strike is often enough to see it finished

Non sequiturs are the best verbal distractions. "Can't we talk about this?" Is relevant to the situation and if he's about to attack, has already decided that talk is pointless. "I used to baby sit for you" would be better, because it immediately requires him to replay a lot of memories, which mean he is effectively blind whilst he thinks. He's not actually blind but his attention will have to reassess before he can respond to an attack, and that makes all the difference. Great video of advice for us OAP's. thanks.

Brilliant video, I fit in perfectly with your dad, Haha!!!
I haven’t had much experience or attacks from baddies, but in the few experiences I have encountered, I used what I suppose you could a bit of psychology, and I find that starting to Laugh out loud really confuses the ***** out of these people, and also NEVER show that you are scared. Most attacks start with a bit of provoking, and there is always a few seconds where the attackers are waiting for a reaction. Never show that you are scared or even surprised, pretend that you knew they were coming, and start laughing, whilst looking at their groin. That confuses the **** out of them, and in my very few cases, solved the problem.

From my experience I would advise against touching someone to calm them down, I am getting on for 60 now and have never reacted well to strangers touching me and in the past reacted to it instantly, that I got from my Martial training but it was very old school. Also building up the aggressor while you seamlessly shrink is a tactic I have used before and found that purposely doing that to the point the other guy thinks he is in control and then flicking the switch is very interesting to watch and normally they have no clue what the hell happened or how to deal with you suddenly being in control and they are in trouble, of course the decision to hit first has to be there in this case, but hey I was a young man and liked a bit of a ruck. Still, courses for horses do what your gut tells you and remember to look after yourself and keep fit, it's not impossible to defend against a younger person but I can tell you it's all up hill and takes about 3 weeks to recover lol.

Another good video from you lads. Keep them coming. One word of warning on using a weapon - that aggravates any assault charge that might follow.
Use if you have to, but ONLY if you have to. Don't pull out your pocket torch and shove the base of it repeatedly into a guy's head for bumping your shoulder.

Yep.. first lesson: no matter how young your opponent is your punch hurts him as much as it hurts older people. Second lesson: if you are weak, old, small it is very wrong to try to kerp distance to the someone who is bigger, younger, and try to hurt you because then you give every "weapons" to your opponent to hurt you. No, you must encounter the devil. And hit first, if u are with opponent that really gonna hit you out, man, it would be wise to hit first, even it makes you look bad to the eyes of other people. And there is situations that starts nose to nose and not even room to make distance. Im former doorman but please, don't believe me. Everyone can make their own choices on the fight. If you are weak old man, don't be: go and lift weights. You can do many things to learn to fight and keep up your fighting condition and best wirds yet: never ever be that old weak man in your mind because fighting in real life is at least 90% up from your own mind. Other 10% based on your training and conditioning. Thats all.

I love the use of attention breakers and the use of words to shift someones mind out of pattern. I went to a training session once called verbal judo, it covered a lot of this type of stuff. As an older man (63) who did a lot of judo but is now slow and soft😂, i use verbal judo now instead. A big thing you mentioned is to swallow your pride, get your ego back in it's box, and think intelligently as you work the situation. If you want to prove you are tough, join a boxing gym or get onto a judo mat. On the street its about avoiding first, then possibly surviving. (Although with a little practice its not that hard to reach into many young mens heads and drive them like a puppet. Us old blokes have been doing that for millennia!😊)

I trained from the age of 12 until the age of 17 in full contact kickboxing and shot plan karate. Over the years I’ve done a couple of months here and there in different combat arts to expand my skills and add to my defense tactics but I have a deformed right arm that’s small and has always been that way from birth it can’t make a fist and it’s thin. Even like that when I was 18 I fought two grown men and ended up getting arrested for beating them up bad enough that they needed an ambulance to show up and take care of their injuries. That came from training 16 hours a week for 4 1/2 years straight. So combat arts and a fighting school not a place that only trains without pressure testing is what made me effective. Now I’m 42 and out of shape either 15 years of no training so my effectiveness is probably low but just two years ago I had to defend myself against a 32 year old male trying punch me and his wife trying to stab me but I used a table leg I picked up and left them with swollen heads. He told everyone I was fast so I think my training kicked in so anyone that says this stuff is useless. Or any martial arts is they don’t know anything. It’s about the students willingness to learn and passion as well as the teachers ability to teach.

Staying out of places serving alcohol and not using ATM's after dark (better to go into a bank bldg.) will decrease your need to use these techniques. Some might say, "But I don't want my life style altered by some young punks", but this could just be considered an extension of the de-escalation technique. Avoiding a fight in the first place is a win.

@@terry_willis thanks Terry. Got to draw the line somewhere though. It's about considering what are reasonable precautions to you. And that will be different for everyone. For example I wouldn't be bothered if I never set foot in a bar again, but for other people it may be the only way they connect with friends. So its doing what's reasonable and also having contingency plans (i.e training)

When my dad was younger he came from a very violent family in late 1940/1950s in a town in the North East, you had to know how to defend yourself. As I got older he decided to show me as a female, what he learned prevented me from being raped. My dad knew nothing about mashel arts but everything these people are showing is very similar to what I was taught. But he always said try to talk your way out it, quietly to prevent an audience and walk away.

If I have to walk anywhere I always have my keys in my hand, one key between each finger so you know which key to use when you get home. Hope this gives you some extra tips.@@raullm6820

Thanks guys, great videos. I would say striking accuracy is more important than power as most of the target points identified in this video don't need much force to hurt.
Breathing out whilst striking will produce more power (chi), remember Bruce Lee with his 1 inch Wing Chun punch.
The knee cap sliding kick demonstrated in this video is 1 of only 5 Jim Fung Wing Chun Kung Fu kicks invented for Nun's to use and cause maximum damage with minimal effort, they are very big on throat, chest , groin
All their 5 kicks are below the waist, no Hollywood kicks, one other brilliant one is a kick to the nuts, the kick can be demonstrated by Google searching video on person kicking the ball in 'Aussie Rules Football, it can be a light tap with ones and they will be immobilised for long enough to buy a coffee , sit down, drink it,, safely and leisurely walk away,

Instead of letting a vulnerable adult walk anywhere alone, either go with them or put them in a vehicle and drive them there
You can also make sure they can still drive and they can drive themselves around
If this isn't possible, put them on a comfortable bike, especially an e-bike
E-Bikes help keep you SAFER, because you're SAFER on WHEELS
Not only can e-bikes help you get around quicker and easier, but they can ALSO help keep you SAFER by helping you stay OUT OF REACH
Remember, BIKES can go where CARS CAN'T
Getting a good bike to help you travel safely can ALSO help you maneuver away from dangerous situations more quickly
I faced a situation in my travels when a driver had their car within bike space along the outer edge of the road
Not only were they SPEEDING, but they drifted TOO FAR RIGHT
The driver who must not have been from the area laid on the horn and the passenger got aggressive
Because I was right by a one-way street, I turned UP that street knowing they COULDN'T, and they had no choice BUT to proceed in the direction they were going
I see why many people around here won't ride their bikes because TRAFFIC can be DANGEROUS
Aggressive drivers trying to run over bikes won't be smiling long when more areas start taking space away from cars and opening it up to bikes
One particular big city took about 400 parking spaces away from cars and repurposed those spots
My area in particular has parking along Main Street, but they can take those parking spaces away from cars and repurpose those parking spots into a bike lane, specifically an ENCLOSED one
One good Area to repurpose into a bike lane is a road that allows bikes to coast downhill....
Take THOSE parking spaces AWAY from cars and REPURPOSE it into a BIKE LANE in the direction bikes often travel DOWNHILL
Instead of repurposing one-way streets into two-way, close it off and gate it off into bike access only with absolutely NO car access whatsoever
If you want to keep you and your loved ones SAFE, what I'm trying to point out here is EXACTLY how to do it

Using even an improvised weapon whilst possibly effective in defending and probably injuring raises a potential A.B.H. assault to G.B.H. if a charge results. This can be the outcome even if you are defending yourself - if it can be shown that you have not retreated to the last resort! Beware.
