The balloon mini game is something else
Which is why I dislike Odyssey
@@stomboyyuffie8511 Sorry that you didn’t like it, at the end of the day you can’t please everyone.
I love Super Mario Odyssey. I started a new save file today. I remember first seeing the game and watching the trailer on my dad's phone in 2016. I got so hyped over it, and even got it in 2016. When the game came out, I watched a bunch of walkthroughs on it on my TV on Amazon. It should have gotten DLC.
nearly cried when i went to peaches castle and looked up like in 64 and got the moon for it with the star texture and sound... What amazing fan service
I totally forgot about looking up at first glance. I never owned mario 64. But I sure loved it and memorable

I hope Wonder ends up turning out like this installment did. Strong ideas, Fun theming, Fun Level design, Fun Gameplay, Just Plain Fun
Same.
It’s kinda like what Into the Spider Verse and Across the Spider Verse did with the movie industry.

It will!

@@Jonny312. Yup, and I'm glad of it. :)
Mario Odyssey is my personal favorite video game of all time, and this video perfectly highlighted why. It feels like a true adventure in a way that almost no other game does, with so many sights to see and things to play around with, all while feeling like a true celebration of Mario. Even the little things work to help craft the experience, and to this day I find new small details and easter eggs. The thing you mentioned about seeing a desert in the background and how that’s a callback to the “World 2” of most Mario games was amazing, I had never noticed that lmao
I am almost 40 years old. This is the best Mario Game ever. This game blew my mind
I really hope they make a sequel to this game, everything combined just made it a fantastic title, although it’s hard to top perfection.
Great retrospective! Made me want to play the game again
Well, technically, there is a way to get hints for where the Purple Coins are.
But it's locked behind amiibo! Why couldn't they just let you pay coins to reveal their locations, like they do with Power Moons - those get THREE NPCs to help you! But with Purple Coins, it's only amiibo!
Great video!! I love odyssey as it’s the perfect balance of giving you linear levels and exploration something evidently missing from a 2D game. Still can’t wait for wonder though 😊
This is about as perfect as video games get.
Agreed. I'm currently making a 2D version of it.

I just got this game and I love love every minute of it. It rewards your curiosity to explore, which I love even more.
its crazy that the game is already 6 years old it still feels like its just came out,
i'm honestly having a hard time deciding if either this game or 64 is my favorite mario game,
I absolutely love this game that in fact I 💯 percent this game, my only gripes with the game were the amount of moons and Luigi's Balloon World on the required task just to make Luigi's balloons golden. I still haven't finished that as of yet and am currently working on it, but yes I give this game a 9/10.
You didn't even talk about the amazing baloon hiding dlc! Its so fun!
Jump up superstar is the best piece of Mario music in my opinion
Gusty Garden Galaxy hits harder tho.
Living Tombstones remix was also 🔥🔥🔥
This was very fun to watch, Mr. Mikester. Keep up the work bro you are a big inspiration for me
I really love this game! I've played this game so much because of casually playing a ton and speedrunning it! I also love how you have flawless movement, you can't stay in a level after collecting a moon, you have all these references without them being shoved down your throat in a bad way! This is and potentially always will be my favourite video game ever! Great video, man!
I thought the moon system was well thought out for people of all ages and skill levels to enjoy. If a 6 year old is playing, they can still get some easy moons. I don't have a problem with it because they offer plenty of moons with higher difficulties. I don't think it was due to laziness.
exactly and people complaining that it was a 'poor reward system' because you get the same reward for getting 1 hard moon vs 1 easy moon confused me, like in 64 you could do the exact same and i've NEVER seen it brought up at a point against that, it honestly feels like a minor nitpick to me, but it does ofc come down to preference I just think Odyssey does not get it half as easy as 64 does. (still love 64 tho)
This Game is such a masterpiece and also financial success, what are the chances Nintendo would give us a sequel? The only time they did that was with Galaxy 2! I‘ve been waiting my whole life for Galaxy 3 which will sadly never happen, but Odyssey 2 could be realistic 🤞
Wow! 🤩 I never thought that this game was that great! 😊 Even though it's been over 7 years since the game came out, I still haven't been able to complete it yet. I just never took the time to really play it and finish it. I will make sure to definitely play and finish the game, if possible for me. I really do love your narration of each video that you do. :) Especially this one! It makes the game even more spectacular and alive. Thank you for creating a video about how awesome this game really is! 😊
You have an excellent way of presenting information I was captivated from start to finish! Thank you. ❤

I like how Mario resorts to fighting Bowser via punching him in the dick
I’m still bummed that the Cloud and Ruined Kingdom weren’t fleshed out to their potential. As I stated in a comment, it makes this game feel a tad incomplete to me in a strange way. Like if you’re not going to fully realize such a cool idea (Ruined Kingdom) don’t blueball me by adding it
Hey bro. i think your video's are heavily underrated and should at least pick up 600k views a video. I really enjoy watching them so keep it up!
I just beat the metro kingdom and I love how you have to explore and platform to get the music festival running and I love the ending of it
So I can say metro kingdom is my favourite kingdom in Super Mario odessey
Only thing I didn’t like about the game was not being able to wall kick out of a long jump like in 64. Other than that tiny thing, perfect game
I had a burnout working for a year, after finishing my game education. Then for 4 years i didnt play any games.
Never played mario before. Picked it up about 2 years ago and felt like a child all the way through.
Whatever it does. If you are really craving games it even makes you feel the same things that games make you feel when you are 6 years old. And that's why it is great.
It is unexplainable. Mario odyssey is just pure fun. Its perfectly paced. Perfectly designed, has perfect art. It is the perfect game.
Everytime i see a clip of getting that last multimoon im reminded of how i felt when i got it, i was so bad at the game that i had been playing on and off for years when i finally did it on a random school night. I loved it and hated it at the same time
My favorite Mario game is Super Mario 3D World. That game is amazing!!!

Let's examine the core tenets of these games and see which areas are better in each.
1. move-set
3D Mario games focus on a consistent move-set from Mario. Odyssey's movement is closest to Galaxy's, but significantly nerfs Mario's long jump and wall jump to make players use his cap abilities more. While Mario has a larger move-set in Odyssey because of Cappy, the nerf and subsequent lack of demand for Mario's other moves sets Odyssey back. I hate what they did to Mario's move-set, but to be extra fair, I'll say that this is a tie, and subjective. So, for move-set, it's 0-0.
2. abilities
All Mario games use special temporary abilities to increase Mario's move-set or give him a new way to move entirely. In Odyssey, this is done via "possessions." However, the lack of added complexity of possessions in Odyssey sets them back, compared to Galaxy which's abilities added complexity and were equally easy to use (cloud Mario and rock Mario come to mind). Spring Mario from Galaxy 1 (and 2, I think) is an example of Galaxy doing "possession" style abilities better than Odyssey. Compared to Frog Mario, Spring Mario requires more input and thought to control, and allows for unique challenges.
3. Graphics / Aesthetic
Grouping these together. Despite being many years apart, Odyssey looks very similar to Galaxy 2 if you ignore the lack of fidelity the Wii was capable of. While it is subjective which style you prefer, I do think that Galaxy 1 and 2 have a more consistent and appealing aesthetic.
4. Story
Mario games don't have complex stories, but Galaxy 1's story is far more interesting and engaging than Odyssey. This is not really that important, as "get back the princess" is all the story Mario really needs.
5. Level Design
The level design in Galaxy is superior in every way to Odyssey. Instead of turning red coins into "Moons" to give the player a never-ending positive feedback loop, Galaxy 1/2 created dozens of unique worlds with 1-4 objectives, which change each time you play them. The worlds in Galaxy are usually interesting, while the worlds in Odyssey are mostly boring, with a few exceptions (the food kingdom). Even the end-game content is boring. It could have been mid-game Galaxy 2. The majority of content in Odyssey is recycled over and over again, and is often the most tedious and unengaging "gameplay" imaginable. Only about 10-20% of Galaxy is recycled content, and it always is upgraded in some way.
6. Difficulty
Neither games are particularly challenging, even to 100%. However, Odyssey was clearly designed for children to beat with ease, while Galaxy 1/2 were meant to be playable by children, but not easy to beat per say. For example, the boss battles in Odyssey are painfully easy. In order to make them fun, you have to intentionally try to speedrun them. Imagine how much better it would have been if, for the 3rd Broodal fight, you had to fight the two Broodals you just beat at the same time, in the same ring? That would be interesting. But, no.
@@againsttheleftandright4065Just because a game isn’t challenging doesn’t make it a bad game. Shows that you’re a gank.
@@user-se7jj4gl6q
Already responded to this one. Without challenge, games are boring. If your game is boring to most gamers, it is not a good game.
I really liked this game, I can't help but wonder what if the earlier ideas of the game being Mario traveling through a multi-verse had been stuck to. I think some of the weirder worlds like the Luncheon Kingdom, or the Nightmare before Hat-mas Kingdom or complete genre shifts with places like the Ruined Kingdom are evidence of that idea.
I hope that we get a "Super Mario Odyssey 2" on the next console but knowing nintendo now days it looks unlikely
Wonder is prob a 2d version of Oddysey. Like Cappy gave many power up possibilities so willl prob the wonder have a power up / gimmick in each stage.
I didn't think the purple coins at 12:38 were unfair at all, if they wanted to convey that the gap was dangerous they would not have placed the parallel walls on the drop.
To me, the designers were giving a clear hint to wall slide downwards to find something, then walljump up to get back.
I wish for collecting purple coins cappy gave you some sort of purple coin tracker that would work similar to botw’s shrine locater.
When I did Darker Side, I skipped the whole Pokey Bird section by using the Glydon in the Fork section. I'd like to say it was an accident, but as soon as I saw that I could skip it, I did.

I’m honestly surprised this game is as well loved as it is. I thought most of the moons were really repetitive and simplistic. Also I’m not a big fan of the transformations, Mario is way more fun to control than any of them, I’d rather they added unique movement and attack abilities to Mario’s base moveset instead of make us play as much less mobile and dynamic characters.

It's great to see that gamers like Mariomikester truly understand games like Super Mario Odyssey. The complaints of "long-time fans" do not change the fact that their preferences are the real issue with this game. I can think of many ways that this game is a masterpiece.
Collecting Power Moons may have been repetitive, but that's consistency and it keeps the action going, much like traditional collectibles in previous 3D Mario games. Although some activities to obtain them felt just as repetitive, but they still kept the action consistent without overwhelming gamers with RANDOM content. The game is still diverse, but not overboard.
The Capture System may have limited Mario's actions, yet that was to emphasize clarity. Throwing Cappy onto almost anything could turn a creature or Bowser's weaponry into a useful tool to get through a certain obstacle or solve a problem (like stacking Goombas and using a Pokio bird to reach higher areas). Plus, you can dispose of them afterward and keep playing as Mario, so it's not like you're GLUED to the Capture System. Saying that it "limits Mario's mobility" is illogical. The real challenge should've been overcoming the change in mobility and skill set to use it to the best advantage.
Even the courses in each Kingdom complement the mechanics, which is why each locale is designed a certain way. Plus, it feels more fun to pull off Cap Dive Jumps in these Kingdom Courses.
Honestly, it takes the right attitude and perspective to see that Super Mario Odyssey is a harmless, user-friendly, fun game that is only regarded as a Masterpiece because of how well-polished it is on its OWN merits. I enjoyed this video and thank you for your time...a CAPtivating one. 🤣🤣🤣

No, Breath of the Wild was released on the same day for both the Switch and Wii U. (March 3rd, 2017)
Is there any Mario game that this channel won't call 'perfect'?
Sure the game has a ton of content but very little of it feels worthwhile. Usually there's one simple challenge that ends as soon as it started and then you have to go on to the next thing. Having so much content inevitably means that the average quality will be very low and I would have preferred a classic 120 stars each requiring significant investment or maybe a compromise of 250 stars or something. Moons just feel worthless when you collect one every two minutes
Can you really call it content if it isn't original or challenging?
@@againsttheleftandright4065The game LITERALLY adds everything people wanted in a Mario game, so shut up.
just constructive criticism but i feel like you are way too positive about any game, you practically call every game a masterpiece or either good at the end of the video even if its not in the title, and don't really consider how repetitive the moons really are in the game
Mario>Zelda?
Mario Odyssey is Into the Spider Verse while Mario Wonder is Across the Spider Verse
i think odyssey has a lot of missed potential, wich honestly isn't justified for nintendo, given that they got more that 6 years to make a proper expansion or make a sequel, but i have the feeling that they just rather launch said sequel on the next system to ensure a lot of sales.
I agree, I think it is overlooked how lacking the the Ruin Kingdom and the Cloud Kingdom are. In a weird way it makes the total package feel incomplete imo.

I am a huge Mario fan and I actually have a big problem with Mario Odyssey. I think the game is far from perfect. Not enough difficult platorming, the fact the game doesn’t even have powerups because it relies on crappy and the captures aren’t even that fun or interesting. They’re cool the first time you see it and that’s it. Bosses are very boring and too easy to kill, broodals suck and Nintendo shoulda kept koopalings in the game or just bowser Jr. Kingdoms are big with a lot of nothing to do and the game is just a big scavenger hunt to find moons. Also two wasted kingdoms like ruined kingdom and cloud kingdom. Multiplayer mode is super lame, there should be P2 as Luigi. Bowser fights were very anticlimactic. Galaxy bosses are way better. And then you finally reach mushroom kingdom and there’s picture frames just to fight bosses from odyssey again. There should have been a bobomb battlefield remake and stuff like that to really pay respects to 64. I just find the whole system of looking for moons boring and prefer the more linear approach with levels having a beginning and end.
Your saying that you wanted Odyssey to be a New Super Mario Bros game.
it's for 10 year olds
Most definitely not a NSMB game😂 I’m just as tired of those as anyone else. My biggest complaint with odyssey is that I wish they utilized the space better. Like sand kingdom there’s tons of empty space that serves no purpose. And I wish there was a better system than power moons just being a big game of hide and seek. My favorite 3D Mario is Galaxy and that’s a perfect example of a more beginning/end experience without it being a NSMB.
Nobody cares
What about Mario 3?@@juicyd5910
That is some bold assumption, saying that the core audience prefers 64 and Sunshine... I largely prefer 2d ones, like SMB3, SMW or SMBW ("Wonder" in case it isnt clear), my first Mario game was "the first super mario bros", so i've been around for long enough to have criteria on the matter... While Odyssey is hands down THE BEST 3D game, both 3d World and Galaxy take 64 (which is grace but age disgracefully, was my fav 3d mario game till i finally started replaying it last week), and specially Sunshine, which is a rushed, borderline unfinished mess, and the worst 3d Mario game by a huge margin. Cause while 3D World and Galaxy play it safe with the more linear structure, they dont have bad levels at all, like 64 and Sunshine do.
So as a core Mario audience member, i say your statement is little more than an opinion, and some some established fact. And i get where it comes from, because im a resident evil fan aswell, and the "core ones" are the ones you can speed run, with no interruptions be it from chapter systems, too many playable QTEs, setpieces and so on, but the games where you can map optimal routes. And still does not apply to Mario, because Galaxy is the second best 3d Mario, and 3dworld + bowsers fury is the third, with Bowser's fury being as good if not better than both Odyssey and Galaxy.
64 i love, but unless you're playing it on its original hardware... It's an absolute mess. Sunshine is just not great (for a 3d mario game, which means it's better than most of the games that release the same year)
I was honestly bored of this game and I had to force myself to finish it just to get my money’s worth. I preferred every other mario adventure game over this one.
I like your videos a lot, but consider removing the word “Literally” from your vocabulary. Just think how all uses of it (and there’s a lot) are either redundant or downright wrong (“literal T-Rex?”).

I personally don't think Odyssey is that good and believe 3D World is the best 3D Mario game. Sure, its more linear than stuff like 64 or Odyssey, but it blends the best of both worlds, great controls, very creative and fun level ideas, collecting stars and stamps is very fun, and the best multiplayer Mario experience ever. Its fun to work with a friend to 100% the game, but also just as fun to have a competition to see who can get the most crowns. Odyssey to me feels like Nintendo heard people wanted a more open game, so they just threw some maps together and put so much annoying collectibles around that feel more like a chore to get than a fun experience. Also, Odyssey doesn't have a good multiplayer.
