Finish Carpentry TV it’s cool but it doesn’t make much sense to me. The people who this gun would really benefit are framers who have to buy gas all the time, but it will only shoot 300 nails before it needs to be re filled. That’s only 5 racks of nails. That means stopping to refill the gun 4+ times per day, which needs a special high pressure compressor too.

A Pre-Charged Pneumatic (PCP) nail gun. There are some very powerful air riffles that use this same tech.

Scott you can use different types of clothes washing detergents to make the oils come out of kwila and other hardwoods. I use napisan, give it a good wash once installed and hose it off repeat once dry and its mosty gone. Probably some more oil that will come out after some heating and cooling but its a good head start.
That guns really cool dude, it’s still a true pneumatic and no hose👌🏽💯
Me and my brother joke about them coming out with a bluetooth air supply for guns, we end up with 4 or so guns going and you can imagine the hose mess that ensues.

Apart from their framing nailer which is a bit of a dog.
And the price tag is a bit of a pain

I have the Hitachi chordless air framing nailer... charge battery and go... and loves it.
They're SO heavy though, really impractical if you need to do lots of shooting above your head, recipe for shoulder injuries imo

Prebena released a similar gun about 3 years ago but the difference is that you can change that bottle were the compressed air is inside and you can attach a hose to it if you are in your workshop

We had 3 days of over 40°C this summer in Sydney, while standing 200x200 hardwood posts. Best thing to do is to wet a hand towel and put it on your head under your hat!

Cool gun, the airbow demo video says it can fire up to 300 nails per refill. That's only 6 racks of nails.. would be pretty inconvenient if you were framing a roof and had to get down every 6 racks of nails to recharge the gun.
What are those Spax screws? the threaded top and bottom ones?
What is the shear strength of those nails? Would it not be better to lap joint the post to the deck frame? Or use hangers

Being in Australia I used mixed Australian reds for my decking, and it haemorrhaged all over my concrete for a good two years.
Probably should have sealed it straight up. Live and learn.
You can buy a wash/treatment for the tannin that comes out of hardwoods especially these Australian hardwoods. Available at bunnings.

That's an Occidental, I have the 9855 which is a bit of a beast, more for full time carpenters.
If you find a Occidental you like, it will last your lifetime .

Love your videos. With the post holes for the stairs are you pouring the rapidset for a base to sit on for the post, then backfilling with soil/gravel?

he poured some and left to set as a sole plate, placed the post and leveled the stairs, then poured more concrete around it to hold it in

It's NZ high UV that makes it feel hotter. You'll get people from far hotter climates complain about the heat when it's a lot cooler than where they came from.
Was not aware of that, but in Australia it definetly gets incredibly hot

In Australia you can't have a doorway open onto stairs. You need a landing before the steps.
Might be worth checking the nz code for the next one you do. Not sure how much variation there is with the code. Don't want you getting in strife 👍
*I believe the code is the se in NZ. But you only require a landing if there is 3 risers or greater. I'm pretty sure

Yep it's a fail here. The code in NZ requires a landing when the door opens outwards like they do in this vid.
Code:
Landings required - Landings shall be provided at the top and bottom of every flight of stairs, ramp or ladder, or where a door opens into the stairway. A landing need not be provided between a flight and a door where the rise of the flight is no more than 600 mm and the door slides or opens away from the steps
They could have satisfied the code by making that step 900mm deep.

Got that feeling like someone is aiming at you when you play with that aiming randomly around. I know they have safeties etc. When I was 12 I once aimed my brothers friend from behind. He was an army guy and in a fraction of a second I was on a floor in pain. Then he said you should never aim anybody even with a toy gun. Seems to be my childhood tragedy.

Placemakers had it for $1750 for the gun and $999 for the compressor. Not a cheap bit of kit by any means
300 shots before you have to charge it using a high pressure air compressor which 99% of people dont own

All those tools are to flash for you boys. Years back we would have to 'share' a Senco and compressor between builders as needed, rest of the time it was an Eastwing. And, when we had to travel to a job, it was uphill both ways!

Is there a reason why you had the drill on a angle when pre-drilling the screw holes?
My guess is that they are getting some extra resistance to prevent the board lifting. The screw was more a hybrid nail/screw so the head isn't going to do all the holding work like a pure screw would. I am going to research...

Laser levels save so much messing around especially that one that adjusts its on height but just a point of note. If you work on a site with other machinery operating, flashing beacons can sometimes be picked up by the staff thinking its the signal from the laser level so you can end up working to two heights. One from the beacon and one from the tripod. Just something to be aware off, great vid as always. 👍🏻
