As the Pastor of the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto, Rev. Hawkes has been at the forefront of ministry to the Gay & Lesbian Community in Toronto. He serves as spiritual leader to a faith community of more than 600 congregants at regular Sunday worship. As well, he has served the community at large with distinction, championing several Human Rights initiatives, especially benefiting the Gay & Lesbian Community.

Though I don't follow Christianity, I am a woman of faith in a independent spirituality that I have come to create in myself, my world and what I contribute or put out. I believe in a creator, something more above myself, that being said I have much respect for others of different religions who embrace the LGBT communities. They stop judging and see my fellow brothers and sisters as any other person looking to have a relationship with God. I'm glad to see the real unconditional love that I believe our creator really offers and that we are all one in his eyes.

@@josephj279 May I ask you what "sin" is to you? How do you perceive of what makes a deed "sinful"? Is it Jesus himself who has stated what is a sin or is it human patriarchal agendas? Ask yourself and try to be as honest as you can - "Are we truly born sinful?" and if we are then how then are you to explain the natural human behavior of love? How can a child be taught to be righteous when its entire being longs to express itself to the world? "Sinful nature" is taught to us, iust as is hatred, bigotry, prejudice are. What we need not to be told is how to love.

How can other religious people give someone death threats and try to kill/assault them and call or even THINK of themselves as good and loving human beings? If you are committing murder or assault or hate on someone else for ‘sinning’ that makes you NO better than that person. It might eve make you worse. How do people not see this?

I like a lot of the stuff this guy says except what about the fact that the Bible says that Jesus is the only way to heaven?
I love my Lord Jesus Christ, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. He is the light of the world. He is the lamb that was sacrificed for our sins to be forgiven. All our sins were nail to the cross. We were forgiven by his sacrifice. I believe in the Holy Spirit. Oh my Lord and savior Jesus Christ, son of God please bless me with your Holy Spirit. May I walk every day worshiping and loving you for all time. I love you my dear Lord Jesus Christ. I am a gay men and I am in long committed relationship for over 11 years. I know that my Lord Jesus Christ loves us. Amen.

There is often nothing really wrong with priest like people even this lovely man. But having had religion all my young life, it sometimes just boils down to their presentation, like the way they talk and their body language. This all rings bells of irritation, like a nagging teacher. The nuns were all sorry that so many of us girls ditched the church but the had us at a precious time in our young lives and they screwed it up, we were listening but now we're not.
WHAAAT?! “There are many paths to God and Christianity is one of them.” WHAAAT?! What a poor, pathetic, spineless lack of doctrine this “church” has. Leading people into lies.
Yes! And God is love. And nothing we do can make God in Christ Jesus love us less or more. For the love of God is shared abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. And in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Yes! God loves everyone yet he hates sin. That is why he dealt with sin in Christ. And as a brother shared, God has explicitly said that he abores LGBT (ref: Romans 1:18-32). Ones we come to God thru Christ we are both born by his Spirit and his word and bought by his blood.
Why does Jesus hate it when two women fall in love? Why does he hate it when a man kisses his husband goodnight? Doesn't sound particularly loving.
The problem is that spirituality is often corrupted by materialistic people, and they want Jesus however they want to be. But Jesus in reality has a specific way to be understood as he represents a cosmic force (you cant say that plants have hands because the universal truth of nature, says that is impossible)

Jesus died for all our sins- including those.
Well, he's Canadian, says it all. Far from a pastor, way far from being a Christian. You can't just make up new Christianity. You can't recreate God into your image. You can't justify sin.
We can't live for ourselves and serve God at the same time. And the God in the scriptures is very clear about LGBT and any such thing. For nothing as such will enter the kingdom of God (Romans 1:18-32, 1 Cor. 6:9-10). We can't love your soul and have it. However if we love our soul for the sake of Christ we shall gain it. LGBT is not the kind of sexuality God prescribed and design for man. For in the beginning it was not so. May the Lord have mercy on us all that we may know better.

God prescribed love. That is all he had for us - LOVE for the nature of our creator is love. Whenever you say do not love your soul, I say if our soul is of god, then how can we neglect him (I wish there were no pronouns for our creator as they are human) in us?
