Jim Carrey knows how it works, he uses his voice as an instument. He doesn´t just look at the lyrics and sing them, he creates his own version of the song.
Yup. Lennon had one of the great rock n' roll voices, and you can't cover this song without a strongly emotive voice. The beat is repetitive and it's a only a two-note melody, so the timbre of the voice carries the song. It doesn't have to sound like Lennon, but it MUST convey his smart-ass punk attitude. Mission accomplished.
This is absolutely great. You can tell how much he loves the song and he's put a really quirky take on it. I'm sure John Lennon would have loved it, he always had a penchant for funny voices.
Normally I'm fairly critical of anyone trying to copy a beatles master piece like I am the walrus. And just because I love jim Carey doesn't mean I would give him a tick of approval on something like this.... however, Jim has nailed it in every way . That was so well done. @@scottmcintosh510 I feel the exact same way! I don't believe in Beatles covers. But this one just nailed it! It's awesome. And I love how at the end, he exclaims: "I defiled a timeless piece of art!!!" So cool.😎

You might want to check out the album this is from. It's called "In My Life", a 1999 again by George Martin, the Fifth Beatle. It's all interpretations, and there are a bunch of gems in them.
As a professional vocalist for over 20 years, I can say with certainty that there was no bad note there, or anywhere else in the tune. Although he definitely styled it differently, he absolutely nailed it! Great tune, great expression, great freedom.

i love the beatles more than life itself .. and i really enjoyed this. jim carrey will always be awesome, and the "sitting in an english garden" part (my favourite lyrics of the song!) is fantastic aha.
This is my absolute favourite cover of this song. It’s intense, it’s entertaining, it has all the unique factors that one would look for in any cover, and it’s purely unapologetically Jim Carrey to a T. He took such a creative song and made it into his own, and that’s not an easy feat especially with Beatles songs. Jim is a treasure
The reason there are so few shots of Carrey actually singing and so many shots of Carrey just talking and doing other things is that, according to the liner notes, he couldn't actually SING well while the cameras were on him. He kept mugging for the camera. In order to get a good VOCAL performance out of him, they had to turn the cameras off. But the REALLY funny thing is that Jim Carrey is playing Dr. Robotnik in the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Dr. Robotnik's name in the original Japanese version of the game? Dr. Eggman. It's almost like he saw it coming.
I doubt it, the man is a legend when it comes to bringing animated characters to life, and seeing how absolutely batty he can get with his roles, that's probably why. It's just really funny that he did this too
Usually I hate it when other people sing Beatles songs but this is the first one I've ever liked. Jim Carrey is a great actor and besides singing this awesomely well, he can mess around with his voice and it still sounds good. My favorite part of the song was when he said, I did it, I've defiled a timeless piece of art LOL!
Honestly, I always come back to this cover & prefer it to the original. It’s an absolute treat for my ears, he just puts so much personality into this cover.
This is priceless! Maybe my love for Jim Carrey is affecting my judgment, but I think he would have been a great Peter Gabriel. I can really picture him performing in albums like Foxtrot, singing 'Supper's Ready', with its impressive range of different voices, impersonations and theatricality. Or collaborating with Mike Patton (that would be awesome). Watching this guy's movies while growing up was a privilege, I feel lucky about it!
Damn I just bet it's always a fun day in the office with that man!! Great cover too, especially when he bellows out " waiting for the band to come!" love that part so much
Oh BOY!... it just took me 8 years, since I heard my favourite song of the Beatles (top Band for me) in this masterful version performed by my all-times Idol and 2 Movies of my favorite videogames character to catch the GREAT EARLY reference of Jim as the EGGMAN!!! Jim Carrey is truly THE EGGMAN thanks to him playing Dr. Robotnik in the first two Sonic films. This fella singing "I am the Eggman" was foreshadowing at its finest.

Jim Carrey is the Eggman. John Lennon is the Walrus
