In fact it's almost insulting to call it a comedy special. This is a feature length, one man virtuoso film that deserves every single award that's coming its way. I question if some will turn it off before the first 30 minutes or so are up not understanding where this thing is going, but all those people are missing the fuck out on what is right now the best film of the year.

when i first found bo maybe 5 years ago or so it was so awesome, because here is this kid that clearly has what it takes to be one of the greats. not one of the greats yet, and its not clear whether or not he would blossom into one of the greats. it was so awesome to watch because up until that point in my life, all of the comedy greats and my comedy heroes were already super famous greatest of all time level - carlin, hicks, louis ck etc...but bo has given me the chance to watch one of these types of people grow from basically a child into someone who could stand toe to toe with the greats. is he there yet? not quite. will he 100% for sure achieve carlin status? i think it probable but not 100%. either way, its been an absolute honor and privilege to watch and im very much looking forward to all that is to come.

His voice used to be predominantly a boyish, nasal head voice, occasionally punctuated by dark, husky chest voice. Now with this new grizzled supervillain vibe, he seems to have embraced the latter a lot more, and I love it!
This is like a disney song for a naive character that used 3 wishes for "all the knowledge in the world, to communicate it with everyone easily, and to have it on demand" to an evil genie who did exactly that but didn't elaborate on just how deep those demands were till it was too late.
This should be the theme song for the first time you ever access the internet on a device. Sort of like a fair disclaimer for that in which you are about to indulge.
I've listened to this song probably a dozen times, but this time was the one where I really noticed the subtle production things, in addition to his solo voice and the piano. The stars, then darkness, then swirling lights, then everything in the background. The way that plinking instrument came on top of the repeat of the chorus before the slow part. The way I could hear voices softly singing "anything and everything" when he re-enters the chorus after the slow part, the layering of the children's laughter and voices, then layering his own voice several times to harmonize with the melody before bringing it all back to stark acknowledgement with just his single voice for the last "all of the time"
The way the song almost constantly has different noises playing in the background really nails home the feel of information overload the internet gives off at times.
i thought it was a little bit hit or miss, but when it hits (like this song) it hits really hard. but like a song about how your mom doesn't understand how to use facetime? i had to skip past that one. just a really boring premise
@@fruitypeebils I interpreted that song more as a comment on how he had to facetime his mom every night as part of his coping mechanism during lockdown. He's said frequently how much his mom has helped him so I thought it was quite moving peek into their relationship.

"This part isn't amazingly entertaining to me at this very moment should I just sit here for 3mins and watch it? No, can't wait that long MUST SKIP TO CONTENT!" Remember fruity, apathy's a tragedy, and boredom is a crime.
bo, me and a lot of people come back to this song because of how well it was written, performed, and edited. you encapsulated how fucked up the internet truly is. how a child (or anyone really) can lose their innocence in near seconds. your work is art, bo, and it's something we can all see and hear. thank you for putting words and jokes in the right places.

Almost as insightful as Cygnus X-1 (Book 2 of course; I love Book 1 just as much as Book 2, but the lyrical meaning is quite a bit more straightforward in Book 1)
the end of the song when he starts singing the chorus again and he adds a bunch of sounds on the background was genius because it makes you FEEL overwhelmed, too much going on at once but you cant stop listening, like the way he’s describing the internet itself
I feel like it shows how the internet is slowly driving us all insane. The maniacal laugh as he knows he won and then, "Here you go, your daily dose of insanity. See you tomorow >:)"
In the beginning, there are some 'zany' and 'wacky' sound effects because that's what the internet was thought of and used for - fun. Now, it's maddening, and the cacophony of those noises really sells the concept.
The song talks about getting hooked on the internet from a young age and Bo plays the dark side of the internet as a character here. Starting off just googling pictures of cats and talking to friends on facebook then as you grow you you're exposed to the more horrid parts of the internet. This final piece is like the dogs coming out to play. The scary clown noises are like the deepest darks parts of the web finally getting a chance to snatch at your innocence now they've lured you in.
The most disturbing thing about this song to me is not even the breaking down of the charade that is the maniacal laughter, but the crooning, faux-adoring tones in which bo sings 'Honey how you grew' it fills me with such disgust and distrust for the character that is singing.
It kind of reminds me of how much I feel "comforted" by the Internet and all it has to offer, but it's also incredibly scary, dangerous and addicting the more you get sucked into it. Not to mention all the electronic devices and social media that gets you hooked. I was practically born using cellphones and smartphones in the early 2000s, too. It's kind of freaky how he nails the "false sense of security" theme.
I’ll never forget watching his movie on Netflix. There’s an experience you get when watching people perform in person, hearing the instruments and all of the above, live. Some how he gave us that… in our living rooms.
@@alexanderliczner It's amazing the progress we have when we don't have a psychotic megalomaniac as president of the free world anymore. I just hope everyone remembers how close to the brink we got come 2024.
There’s something very meta about the fact that one of the top trending songs on The Internet right is now is a song about how awful The Internet is. And I just can’t stop hitting the “replay” button.
This song is a perfectly accurate representation of the way the internet sucks you in from the very beginning, and the creepiest part is that you don't even realize what its doing to you.
He already does address a generation when the song slows down. The line about how it was before 9/11 and circa '99. The internet existed in its infancy so that's not "you," "you" are the ones that the world was waiting for to give everything into your hands. So seems like the song is basically for zoomers or anyone born/grew up with the developed internet. I think it also implies an identity connection between the internet and that generation. I sort-of fall into it sort-of dont, myself. Anyone who has seen the internet knows its pull, but its "for" the people who dont know anything else.
@@maiduncan3592 I honestly can't tell if you're being sarcastic or just don't know the reference because its hard to tell over text so in case you (or anyone else) don't know I'm referencing an older song of his called Words Words Words, not criticizing him

after he ends the slow part and laughs, he's laughing at anyone and everyone who took the preceding, supposedly heartfelt lyrics seriously. and he then proceeds to immediately remind us that it was and is all about keeping our attention, with nothing really behind it: "apathy's a tragedy and boredom is a crime."
I took it more as a perversion/twisting of the last "heartfelt" line, from the seemingly humble goal of "putting the world in your hand" to the modern montra: "Could I interest you in everything, all of the time?" I do think part of the laugh is at the old sentiment of the promise of the internet, but that sentiment did once exist, and I think it was a genuine reference to that.
I think the slow part represents how the old intentions were legit once, like someone else said here. However the world changes and as such so does the Internet. Honestly if this were a villain song, I could see that soft moment of bringing the world to the young one's hand then having them clasp it, only to realize now, now they're gonna go just as mad as the initial singer. We gave you the world, right there, we had good intentions, but now **you have the world in your hands**. Mankind's brain isn't built for that much that fast, enjoy the ride of insanity with us. Thus the last part where you hear another copy of his voice repeating the "Anything and everything" line is just simply that unstoppable youthful mind just falling into the madness with us. Inspiring, dark, scary, and sad that we can't break out of it. Just as the Internet is in reality.

Especially when the problem in question, internet addiction I guess, is a thing that happens on a massive scale and that is simultaneously very slow and insidious at the individual level (i.e. you don't necessarily see it coming as a person) and mind numbingly fast on a societal scale (i.e. it's only been a couple of decades and it seems like everyone in the younger generations is affected by it) We're only beginning to see the effects of it and we don't understand it fully yet, so trying to come up with solutions without doing more damage is a challenging thing!

The most disturbing thing about this song to me is not even the breaking down of the charade that is the maniacal laughter, but the crooning, faux-adoring tones in which bo sings 'Honey how you grew' it fills me with such disgust and distrust for the character that is singing.
memento mori
It kind of reminds me of how much I feel "comforted" by the Internet and all it has to offer, but it's also incredibly scary, dangerous and addicting the more you get sucked into it. It has
I believe it will... Gen Z juts like millennials are gonna go through so much more shit and this song is the perfect anthem song

True genius
I took it more as a perversion/twisting of the last "heartfelt" line, from the seemingly humble goal of "putting the world in your hand" to the modern montra: "Could I interest you in everything, all of the time?"
I do think part of the laugh is at the old sentiment of the promise of the internet, but that sentiment did once exist, and I think it was a genuine reference to that.
That evil cackle just screams “I got you!”
Thus the last part where you hear another copy of his voice repeating the "Anything and everything" line is just simply that unstoppable youthful mind just falling into the madness with us.

it's easy to lay out the problems, coming up with solutions is the part nobody wants to do.
@@darkcylander i respectfully disagree; one of the biggest steps when coming to terms with addiction in general is the 'user' acknowledging that it's a problem - and that is the first step, you're right in saying that there are other steps that can be as challenging, but acknowledgement is necessary and often difficult.
Especially when the problem in question, internet addiction I guess, is a thing that happens on a massive scale and that is simultaneously very slow and insidious at the individual level (i.e. you don't necessarily see it coming as a person) and mind numbingly fast on a societal scale (i.e. it's only been a couple of decades and it seems like everyone in the younger generations is affected by it)
We're only beginning to see the effects of it and we don't understand it fully yet, so trying to come up with solutions without doing more damage is a challenging thing!
