  • Our buddy Chris came to us with a classic problem: his 2008 Sea Doo GTI 155 SE personal watercraft jetski had lost most of its power after it sucked up some rocks near shore. We pulled the pump, replaced his wear ring and he was back on the water in no time!

    You can take a stuck rock out of the impeller simply by hand cranking the engine in reverse. The impeller will also reverse and let go of its grip on the rock, and you can just push it out. Much simpler, MUCH faster, and it will save your day out in the water as you can be back in and riding under 15 minutes.

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tip, but don't you run the risk of loosening the impeller? We have experienced this issue under normal riding conditions (with one of our riding buddies), so that would be a concern of ours, especially if it's really jammed in.

    What type of grease or oil are you using inside the impeller cone ??

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Jet pump bearing grease from Sea-Doo.

    • @stevenfox3465
      @stevenfox3465 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@3ftDeepChannel … OK, so I’m getting conflicting facts about it. I’m hearing that it’s actually lubricating oil from SeaDoo/BRP that goes into a filler hole on the Venturi Cone and others are saying that it’s just grease rather. Are you able to clarify that up for me ?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have any doubt, check out Sea-Doo’s parts catalog. Find your machine and then look up the parts diagram for your jet pump. It’ll show what goes in there. Here’s the link: shop.sea-doo.com/ca/en/shop/sales/parts/?aribrand=SEA_DOO_EN_CA_CAD

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it’s not shown in there, it’ll be specified in the Shop Manual for your machine. You can also call your dealer and ask what it shows on their system.

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s very difficult to bend the driveshaft. More likely there’s still some thing in the pump, but it also possible to strip the splines on the driveshaft. Hopefully not.

  • @jaquilina27
    @jaquilina27 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If the rock is in past the impeller and too big to come out the exhaust end then you can try knocking the rock loose and then working it toward the intake side of the impeller again. It has to go out the same way it came in right? I used 2 hangers to work the rock toward a spot against the impeller where I could reach through the intake side of the impeller with my fingers and grabbed it. Worth a shot before disassembling the entire pump

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually. Coat hangers aren’t normally stiff enough to do much. The Impeller Jam Removal Tool works great for that stuff 99/100 times. Thanks for your comment.

    Drill bit through the rock causing it to crumble? Literally just a random idea... would that work?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem would be getting a good start on the rock. It would most likely slip and start damaging your wear ring or pump.

    • @jamesvincent414
      @jamesvincent414 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should check your impeller after every ride, but you will likely know when you have something stuck. The performance will drop catastrophically and it will shutter. You should be able to do these types of repairs yourself, when necessary.

    what do you guys say about stainless steel wear rings? good or bad?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bad, in my opinion. The wear ring is a sacrificial part. If there's any contact between the ring and the impeller I'd rather have the $90 wear ring go than the $395 impeller.

    How do we know when is the impeller damaged too much?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can usually get a good look at it through the intake grate, and you can also check out part of it through the rear pump. Alternatively, you can do a good inspection when you remove the pump for servicing.

    • @jaquilina27

      Unfortunately, no. You'd need to remove the iBR for one thing. But the principles are the same. With our impeller tool (see th-cam.com/video/91gCIT1V7tA/w-d-xo.html), most likely you'd be able to remove it through the intake grate. It's rare to get it jammed in as tight as it was for us.
