I am on a break right now , since a month ... and now I don't feel to comeback there ! When I have people connected on social media actually makes me lonely because I don't feel deep connections with anyone of them ! Now that I am alone , I am not really lonely! I enjoy my company !
      Take care, xoxo💜🐳💫

Probably not going to happen as long as we continue to live life with a mask wrapped around our faces 24/7. Pretending to be someone we are not is exhausting yet we still do it because appearances matter more than living a truly meaningful memorable life.

Once I deleted Instagram, my experience with social media changed forever. I no longer base my worth on how many likes I receive. I don't rely on strangers to boost my self-esteem. I validate myself & it's incredibly empowering.

A breakup led me to take a social media break. It’s been refreshing to focus on me and have time and space to heal. Social media can be so toxic - I remember a time before Instagram when life moved a little slower and things were a bit more simple. My hope is that more people embrace social media breaks.

Preach... there's so much internal destruction happening from using social media; the comparison that leads to all kinds of depressions and insecurities, not to mention the social validation loop we end up in to "fuel our self-worth and self-esteem", and of course the addiction part that leads to immense amounts of time wasted on there. I'm glad that you're using your platform to share this message! 🙏

LOVE this! I also want to add that it's not easy for everyone to go cold turkey so I suggest a way to wean off social media slowly - set a limited time usage for each app on your phone. For example, I'm only allowed 1 hour on Facebook & Instagram every day. When the time runs out, those apps are no longer accessible until the next day. This allows me to use social media more consciously - only when I really want to and for a set period of time instead of just randomly and mindlessly like before. Hope this helps x

Social media is a platform where people present the best version of themselves. In hindsight, anyone who is viewer of that platform will naturally feel inferior and envious since you aren’t as happy or ‘successful’ as them, when in reality, everyone goes through ups and downs.

I agree Lana. I almost completely stepped away from FB and IG mainly because I noticed that only one point of view is being allowed now on certain subjects and I don’t believe that contributes to important dialogue. We should be able to share our opinions even if we disagree.

*i think this video is such an important reminder. as a viewer and a mini creator, instagram and tiktok don’t add to my life or allow me to create content that is meaningful to me. unlike youtube, you can’t even properly search for what you want so information overload happens and it’s overwhelming. the viral content on most social media are superficial or gossipy. it’s draining, especially when i’m staying home so much. Thank you for your insight.*

I have had a break from social media every year for a few months and it's rejeuvenating! Last year I took a break from October to December and honestly in the pandemic time it made me feel more connected to my friends to not see what they were doing constantly and miss seeing them. I would instead write to or call the people I wanted to be in touch with and include them in meditation sessions - which was great. Now I have jumped back on both facebook and instagram for the time being but I feel like i never reach for the apps when I'm bored right now. When I get back into that habit I think it's time for another break.

  • @Abigail-ly7fr

I decided to take a “temporary” break from social media some months ago.... haven’t missed it since. Staying off social for the most part has really made me use my free time intentionally. And as other people have said, as a society we have lost the art of being truly bored, so by not having something easy to turn to when I am bored, I am instead forced to be creative and more productive in how I use my time. Highly recommend!!

I compared myself less to others both physically and lifestyle-wise. I can’t even imagine how much of an impact this has on younger people.

Totally agree with your sentiment! I’m only mainly on TH-cam now. Went from posting daily on Insta to just once a week - and usually my update’s only a clip from that week’s TH-cam video. It’s definitely freed up so much more head space... and reduced a lot of the noise around me. I do a total social media detox for at least a week, twice a year... and that also helps me check back in with what I’m posting and why... Looking forward to seeing your updates on what less social media’s done for you in your life! 🙌

I just watched Joseph Gordon Levitts TedTalk on this!!!! also I totally agree when you said that social media feels like everyone is in a room yelling. SO much noise...im so glad I deleted my IG 3 weeks ago. I feel so much more free

That's amazing Lana. I also felt to cut on social media. It's too much information. Personal growth is more important. Mental health is what we neglect most i think in our days, but it's that which we need to take care of the most. :)

I just landed a new job and I will be relocating to a new city in a few weeks. I too have been thinking about using the next few months to step away from social media that has been a huge part of my life for the last 15 years(Myspace in 2006), focus on my work, and developing meaningful relationships in the community.

Social media is soo toxic, deleting instagram over two years ago has been the best decision I've ever made! 👌🏻

I did this last week except for permanently. I honestly felt so anxious and wanted it back at first. After watching the social dilemma and reading and just doing things I "never had time for" I realized I ain't going back. It feels so refreshing and peaceful for so one who is struggling to care less about what others think and anxiety. I have youtube and Pinterest but check them both only on the weekend as those are the least addicting to me. Good luck to anyone who wants to try highly recommend it😉

I was never "active" on social media and didn't had an instagram until I started my channel. And since I don't follow any people I know there and use it purely for creative purposes, I found that not having instagram for my personal usage is probably one of the great decisions I have done 😄.

I do this once a year. Not really meaning to, just getting to a point that I needed to. Thanks for sharing this.

So true what you just mentioned here. I think it’s important to step out when we need and take time for ourselves. I took bit of a break around Christmas time from Instagram and it felt great.✨

I did the same thing back in September and LOVED it. I thought it would just be a temporary 2 week-1 month long break but I ended up not going back to a most of them at all. The ones that I did actually miss I brought back but kept it limited. I did fall back into a bad habit with tiktok in particular within the start of this year so I am figuring out if its reasonable to keep and use in a healthy way or if I need to just get rid of it entirely again, but either way my life has been exponentially better without social media taking up all of my attention span.

Yo! i’ve been just deleting my apps and then re downloading them once a week and browsing for like 2 hours then deleting them again! It works amazingly because I can stay plugged in enough to know what’s up and keep up with messages etc.. but also post things every week. This is the best solution i’ve found for the mental heath and productivity issues that social media causes me! ayy 🦋
