a song with 5 notes and 4,850,194,022 comments about depression and loneliness
It’s actually a chord that’s arpeggiated.
@@SlyHikari03 well yeah, but that doesn't change the fact that it's 5 notes lol. just because they all make one weird chord doesn't mean they don't count as notes anymore. i understand why it makes more sense to think about it as/call it an arpeggiated chord rather than 5 separate notes, but the op technically wan't wrong.
@@nintendorkds7 holy shit thats a cool tune man
I LOVE THE SONG NINENDORK MADE!!!
@@nintendorkds7 WOAH THAT'S SUCH A GOOD SONG,,, it reminds me of Undertale. In a really good way. Like holy shit, that made me feel emotions. Nostalgic, sad, but also happy? I like it
Remember the only way to get to this area is to shrink Madotsuki so she can fit into the tiny hole that leads to the underground. So how did the alien fit through that entrance? At one time, it was small too, when it was young. It descended into the ground and found much safety and enjoyment in its machines it surrounded itself with. But as it matured, grew into an adult, it was now too big to leave the way it came in. It's stuck down there still surrounded by its dying crackling engines that no longer bring it the joy they once did. So you have an Earth girl unable to leave her room, visiting a Martian unable to leave his, kindred spirits of 2 different worlds. It reminds me of the allegory in Perfect Day for Bananafish. Both Madotsuki and the Martian are bananafish.
that was actually really interesting to read. i like your analysis
That was a great writeup.
I disagree with this notion, I don’t think the Martian is there as a representation of an actual Martian, I think they are there to represent repressed memories, to get there, you need dream, within a dream, in a dream, crash land on a different planet, and go deep underground, the layers and distance this takes represents something deep and repressed in her mind to me, rather than them being a simply literal character.
That's such a good interpretation!
or its just a dream and i ruin your analysis
this part was undoubtedly my favorite area in the game,
just finding that poor creature sitting alone as if it had never felt love, as if it had been unwanted, or even as if it had never seen another living being, no matter what you do it just sits there...
acting as if you don't exist.
i swear i sat next to it for about half an hour before i left....
doing nothing but contemplating existence.
+Nameless neat
Yeah, I tried hitting him with the knife but the only thing that changed was his eye.
Nameless : not my favorite part. After enjoying the perfect melancholy of the moment, I found myself stuck in the room with no possibility of getting out. I don't remember what I've done to get out but I've made it.
Holy crap yes
Literally a stark representation of madotsuki
This might've been brought up before, but I haven't seen any observations on this yet:
"Kikiyama" roughly translates to "Mountain/hill machine/equipment".
The area this music plays is under a large hill, filled with odd machinery.
should be brought up that mars-san acts like a machine/robot in the manga too
@@room___ the manga kinda doesnt matter
@@bamshablam5977 I know it doesn't but am I the only one who kinda liked it 😅
I loved Masadas role, the only person I think got shafted was Poniko... also it was published around the time I got into YN
Kiki means machine? Isn’t it kikai?
@@ghjpkshdgtjdgvbzm roughly is the keyword here
The fact that you have to sleep in 3 different beds to get here makes me think that this has to be some really, REALLY screwed up stuff hidden within Madotsuki's mind. And that it's sad. I wonder what Mars-San represents, if anything...
I always felt like Mars was a dream version of Madotsuki. The small hole being akin to Madotsuki's door that she'll never be able to exit. I feel like Mars area is a the dream version of Madotsuki's room, too. Of course it's possible that Mars is also just a dream version of something like her desk lamp, considering they're shaped similar and Madotsuki sees the lamp every time she goes to write in her dream diary.
Well, it has a hole with leaking liquid coming out that also has a bit of red in it.

Calming... With some loneliness.
Actually more lonely the more I listen...
The way it sounds like water flowing is just so relaxing
Really? It sounds more like static to me.
It could sound like either I guess
Sounds like icy water falling off of something. Like "chills" leaving your body.
I always thought that it seemed more liked steam being released from the train engine next to them
I thought it sounded like heavy rain
This song and barracks settlement are easily my favourites

Goddamn it...it's been 4 years since u uploaded this comment and I've seen it 1 year ago,but I gotta agree
SAME, THOSE TWO HIT ME HARD
somehow they represent my sadness
SAME OMFG they hit so hard they just bring me such peace like I feel so understood and relaxed listening to them. Yume nikki can be very lonely in a comforting way, and I think those songs just encompass that feeling
Wraith pfp
This song is so comforting to hear on loop with noise-cancelling headphones inside a dark room. I often feel like no one really takes the anxious feelings I go through about the pandemic on a daily basis seriously. It feels so, so demoralizing trying to explain yourself when it feels like no one listens without judgement. This song feels like it understands me. It understands the lonesome reality of this world and just exists, without judgement and without guilt. It just listens and in turn, I listen to it, letting my thoughts be washed away with the sounds of steam as I close my eyes in quiet meditation.
that was beautiful. trust me, i understand what its like.
I wish to have empathy towards you but to be frank I've never really felt scared from the pandemic for some reason

This whole game invokes a certain curiosity about existence and the possibility of there being more to our world than what we can see. . . . I love it.
one of these days something horrible will happen to me, like maybe a loved one dies and im gonna be alone in the rain in some urban area with barely anyone around listening to this, crying my balls off while having existential dread
Honestly that's how I think too. I can relate to that. Knowing that something terribly bad very well might happen

I changed schools and Im dealing with a lot of trauma latley.
You see I dont really remeber what happened all I know is that people done bad things to me and I done bad things to people and myself.
I never really had a lot of friends and thankfully now I do. But I always feel like at the end of the day its just me. And Im all alone. When I lisen to this I feel like Im closed in a old room with broken radio and just echoing sounds of piano as I cry and look thru window.
This song helps me. Just proves the point that you can express a lot with just few tones and sounds.
I love this song because it makes me feel the sad fact that loneliness is part of my life and I just have to deal with it. idk I just love it
Absolutely relatable
sounds like an issue you need to resolve
this is how it feels to wake up first at the sleepover when everyone else is asleep and you’re just walking around their house
Eb-Bb-C#-F-C works best for me in octave down the middle c in a ragtime piano setting
Thanks
Thank you so much, I’ve been looking at the comments for hours

You should play it
Man, play it, play it now, it's incredible.
play it NOW

The best perfume comes in small bottles.
bro got ratioed 5 years ago
i love mars-san i would hug them if i were with them
Just 5 notes and a lot of depressive and lonely thoughts, we can't deny that we identify with madotsuki
I have depression and when I listen to this i don’t know why but I just feels like this song was made for me
This piano sticks with you so much, since there weren't music like this in the game before
My theory was that Madotsuki is blind and in her dreams is how she connects with her reality. It would explain why most of the backgrounds in her dream are always blank & you need to touch things in order to recieve an effect. On top of being blind I think madotsuki has problems talking with others & forming true relationships, even if she does form some bonds she still feels lonely and left out.
ignore the fact i'm 3 years late but this could honestly be a bit true since the game also has a lot of eye-related imagery
In the dream of Mars, there had been a cave at a top of an old hill. The girl, nameless even in her dream, crawled down into the hall, wrigling past the rocks and old machinery.
A railcar, split down the middle, smashed into the martian wall, bit not forgotten. There had been a figure by it, a tall tear drop of a monster, with an eye that had cried.
The Monster cried again, a remorseful three-tone chime echoed throughout the cave. Was it crying because of the railcar, or that it had nobody, even in the dream?
But the tears stopped, if for a little while, when the nameless girl, held him in her arms.
Why did this make me cry?
@@Mexikirb, because you’re depressed and dwell in your trauma in which you will never escape because instead of trying to find a way out you look for things that you can relate and cope with, which just makes the situation worse.

One of my favorite pieces in this soundtrack, anyways, one time when I was listening to it, my dad thought it was raining outside, probably because of the static-like sound, and it kinda does sound like rain.
This makes me think of old places that i vaguely remember visiting as a kid, like an old house of mine or a gas station.
one of the few songs that doesn't scare me, but makes me reflect about things that happen and have happened to me in my life before.
this game gives such a relatable vibe behind it, thing that no other horror game has done to me before... just brilliant.
My mom said this song reminds her of sea, waves, evening, late summer, nostalgia, i guess she has taste
I just wanna put on my earphones and listen to this while walking in the rain. Its so calming in a weird way
This is the Guts theme of Yume Nikki
It's always fascinated me that this song gets a harmony part when you interact with the alien creature.
It's like just you being there is supporting them, even if you don't say anything at all.
That piano sound and stairs..
It sounds like that masada was trying to tell her something just like what happened on the ending
And this colorful spirit could be masada getting hit by a train.
Yeah !

Love the Mars quest. It's like something poetic, like something to do with the music guy and the tearful statue.
this track reminds me one of those days when it's dark cloudy and you not sure it's morning or evening, the sky is full of clouds, the ground is wet and you will see a dark clouds coming from far distance.

I remember I listened to this non stop when I found out my grandma died very suddenly from a stroke it embodied the strange quietness I felt in the world, the loss of someone is so quiet everything seems to stop around you, I imagined myself on a train going to nowhere in particular, nothing outside the windows except endless clouds sometimes there was nothing outside the windows but all I could imagine was this song it fit so perfectly
This sounds similar to “It’s Raining Somewhere Else” from Undertale’s OST. I love it! :]

If loneliness was a song it would be this
I remember encountering Mars-san. This song is a bit calming yet lonely.
(Do you want control?)
Yes Maybe no
Ironic
i feel like the person underground was a partner madotsuki once had.
the person looked really sad, maybe the relationship ended... because of the person commiting suicide??
idk just a thought.
madotsuki is traumatised by this and still dreams of them.
One could reasonably interpret Masada's ship crashing as Madotsuki finding and peering into the afterlife.
I remember listening to this OST while searching to Lenore The Cute Little Dead Girl fanarts, i saw an anime fanart of Ragamuffin. And for some reason i felt that Ragamuffin was like a character from a forgotten anime that was popular but it was forgotten and literally nobody else remembers now, like a lost media.

this game really is something special. I barely understand the scene in which this song plays, but I think I get the feeling, enough to make me a bit emotional. I think that might have been the intention of the maker of the game.
I think about this a lot. This scene in the game has stuck with me for over five years.
This song reminds me of “Memory of Life” from Mother 3.
Somewhat reminiscent of the music from Deltarune - "Before the Story"... 🫥
upd: maybe Toby Fox was inspired Yume Nikki. + this also confirms the similarity between Gaster and Uboa
this whole mars shit was so emotional t to me, i think any area in yume nikki where u can see the sky is just so off putting and sad, almost like you are actually awake
Such an amazing, emotional track with just 5 notes.
5 notes. 5. Five. 3+2.
I found out you can make the full song by interacting with Mars-San at the right moment.
It would go a little like this:
Do dee dee do dah~ *Interact with Mars-San about 2 beats after the “dah”*

This ost is really strange. There is only a few notes stuck in a loop and gives that feeling of Loneliness.
When i heard this song for the first time, i've first waited for the rest of the song,if there was any other notes but.. no, but now, every time when i listen to this song,i still have the feeling that the song is fragmented.Like if the song was broken and was only able to play the same notes, over and over.
This ost, give also that feeling of "End of the story".
There's also the sound of wind in the background.Like if Madotsuki was on the top of a building, ready to jump.
This song, for me, show how Madotsuki feel inside. She feel broken, sad and alone.Alone with her nightmare, and the sound of wind is maybe a foreshadowing for the end of the game, where we see Madotsuki comit sucide...
That my own interpretation.
I think I may have heard this from old Roblox Area 51, Horror games. Kinda gives a good creepy vibe about the rain and the 5 piano notes playing
