That voice!! He's certainly not the best technical singer, but nobody else's voice punches you in the gut like his does. When he sings One of My Turns and Don't Leave Me Now, it is visceral... you feel that.
Like Peter Gabriel of Genesis and Rick Davies of Supertramp, Roger Waters was a master of melodic narration. He isn't really singing, but conveying social commentary.
Oh yes! I found a fairly recent video on here of just Roger singing the song and most of what he does is sit and rock back and forth. That's how most people can tell Don't Leave Me Now is a sad song.
@@qteep6112 I always thought it was too. And some of it probably is. Could also be Syd Barrett’s relationship with Lyndsey Korner. According to “ Saicerfull of Secrets” there was an incident where Syd hit her

What I like so much about Roger Waters is that he's one of the very few people who can sing with so much emotion. It's pretty obvious in most of the songs on The Wall album that he's gone through a lot of hurt and anguish...a father who was killed in combat, an overprotective mother, and a broken heart b/c of being cheated on.
@@joellaz9836 Although, in the film the phone call ("...a collect call for Mrs. Floyd from Mister Floyd Will you accept the charges...") comes before Young Lust, so in the film his wife cheated first.
This performance strikes me an absolute mastery of theater.....insanity, depression, anger, and raw talent bottled into a perfect blend of lyrics and music........ it describes and illustrates EXACTLY whats going on with Pink .... I can listen to it over and over again. WOW Cant wait to see Mr Waters on Nov 18 in Atlanta and then again in San Fran on Dec 6. My favorite artist ever
Oh how have missed all their wonderful concerts, I am sadly too young to have attended any. Hope your time was magical, as Rogers wonderfully mysterious music presented.
OK Pink Floyd has always appealed to young kids coming of age feeling like no one understands them or the emotions they have. I can still remember falling in love with Floyd at the age of 15 I'm 30 now. And on days where emotions run high I fall in love with them all over again.
I fell in love with them at age 15 as well...now in two years I will be 70. Gilmour and I are almost the same age, and we were both in our early 20's when I saw him on stage...I felt our eyes met with my then fantasy-driven observations. Best night of my young life!
'How could you go when you know how I need you to beat to a pulp on a saturday night?' It's harrowing how though the narrator is a wicked man his desperate voice still breaks our hearts.
"Animals" y "The Wall" = creatividad al palo. Este tema si que te vuela la cabeza. Ese piano bien grave es un hachazo loco. La primera vez que lo escuche tenía 10 años y dije: "eso no es un tema, no tiene ritmo".
@TheLegend313 I know exactly how you feel; a few years back I went through a tough one and I can remember just sitting at my computer [drinking whiskey] playing this song as loud as it would go. It was the greatest therapy I could have ever had. Even though the song is haunting and sad, it makes you feel like someone or some thing understands the pain. The screams feel real. It got me thru it.
I may sound crazy but I've felt this before I ever heard it. I remember a night in my life where I begged for someone to stay with me because I had a breakdown and was in absolute turmoil. And then years later I hear this song and was mortified, but I absolutely love it. No long lasting effects from that night thankfully.
Absolutely. Great comment. I finished a book just last night that described this track as, along with Rog's vocal, possibly the Floyd's LEAST viable of them all, if you can believe that! I think it's one of their best, actually. It's all in the lyrics and his delivery TOTALLY fits the mood.
The original is amazing, and this is even more so. I always felt that certain songs on this album were too short. Gems to be sure, but never crowns. Needed to be longer.
Roger Waters is a phenomenal singer - absolutely perfect for these songs; the perfect expression. It's SOOO much better with him singing than the guest vocalists he's had over the years. This concert should have been released on video decades ago!
Before Nine Inch Nails, before Tool , before many others , we had this beautiful, creepy, haunting music from Roger. He had that voice that was like broken glass or thin ice , while David had a much smoother tone. Worked so well together.
Floyd was in the zone through this whole concert but it’s Waters performance here that is just another level😀 the emotion he delivered was absolutely amazing
Like a week ago, a friend of mine, who's a HUGE fan of old rock bands, told me we would love to be borned at the '70s and asked me in witch decade I would like to be borned. I said I was OK with the '90s, the decade I was born. But after seeing this videos of the tour... well, I would loved to be there in the August 9th 1980. sorry for the bad english
ive been listening to this video since i was 12 n im pulling the big for now..!! n i never get tired of it..!! i recall it gives me the chills everytime..!!

@akgrizzly2006 The show was indeed life altering..... just SOOOO much different than anything else. The visuals were massive and poetic, the music was loud and crisp, and Rogers singing was great. I loved it. I hope he comes back across the US next year for a few more shows. I could go over and over and watch the same thing.
its the augmented G that makes all the song psychedelic. they were great musicians with very expresing chord progressions (remember the ending of saucerful of secrets ending - its bass melodic line was insane)... and of course they were (and two of them still are) important personas...
That voice!! He's certainly not the best technical singer, but nobody else's voice punches you in the gut like his does. When he sings One of My Turns and Don't Leave Me Now, it is visceral... you feel that.
He really knew how to take advantage of his peculiar/ not so sophisticated voice to trigger deep emotions in the listeners
Like Peter Gabriel of Genesis and Rick Davies of Supertramp, Roger Waters was a master of melodic narration. He isn't really singing, but conveying social commentary.
He wrote it to match his voice, that's the point of writing for yourself
Love it too
now you are talkin man 🤗
what makes the song even sadder is how roger is holding himself rocking back and forth
Oh yes! I found a fairly recent video on here of just Roger singing the song and most of what he does is sit and rock back and forth. That's how most people can tell Don't Leave Me Now is a sad song.

I have to agree.
same here
Agreed. That ending was literally the first piece of music that genuinely made me go..."WOAH...LET'S LISTEN TO THAT ON A LOOP!"

This is one of the most depressing songs ever written in rock history.
Pink Floyd is really good at hitting you with the depression then instantly following it up with one of the greatest instrumentals you’ve ever heard😭
This is an absolutely amazing song! Creepy, deep, emotional, sad, angry, ironic... just brilliant!
that bass fill at 3:26 destroys all
