Let's not overlook the humble chord player....so we all wish for such absolute mastery of music. Sublime comping, brilliant soling. Herbie Hancock, half man, half piano.
brecker's solo is incredible, and then herbie's solo is even better, and then buster william's is my favorite. never have i seen a bass solo on a song this fast, especially with no accompaniment, keep the momentum going this much.
As Miles once told Herbie, don't always play just the butter notes. I think he listened. WOW! And Michael just plowing through those arpeggios like a snow ball rolling down a hill picking up speed along the way. A driving rhythm section makes all the right stops in time! Bravo!
Mike Brecker's explosion of in-and-out arpeggios after 3:00 is the very essence of the modern jazz solo. Herbie's expression at 3:30 says it all. What a group...
Yes. It's why I have the cover of Micheal Brecker s.... Don't try this at home on...TATTOOED ON MY ARM....He changed my life...I actually came up with a Dave Guardala super king Mouthpiece for Tenor
The "mean" Brecker! :P This is one of my favorite performances of Nothing Personal. Of course Hancock and Foster are co-genius brothers, so is Williams, but Brecker's solo is so mean and cheeky, the man was absolutely on his jazz top there.
Wow, great share. Michael is lit and the band is smoking. Herbie, Herbie, Herbie, the one and only; and Alex foster is a hover craft. Love seeing Michael swallow the microphone with his bell which I am told he picked up from Joe Henderson.
Mr speaker, I'm sorry this is NOT a composition by Michael Brecker but jazz pianist Don Grolnick!! The piece, however, appeared on the Breacker's album with Metheny, Kirkland, DeJohnette and Haden as sidemen.
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL..... I actually have a Dave Guardala super king tenor mouthpiece I play on.... n I have the cover of ...Don't Try This At Home ...tattooed on my Arm. Git it Mike
Nothing personal, but while Herbie's solo is amazing, I don't think his comping is really in harmony with Michael during his solo, which really need more of a harmonic platform for Michael to act against. When Herbie comes out with such amazing harmonic voicings it's just wonderful and it's a shame he didn't bring that to bear in this solo, rather than trying to compete with the soloist.
Buster Williams is underated : my favorite bass sound !

Indeed...
I wish I could play 10% as good as Hancock
Half man, half piano, yes, but I GOTTA believe there’s a healthy dose of alien DNA… which I know throws off the percentages, but… lol!
Amen Amen..... these guys changed my life
@@sonicmuse I agree Sir....these sounds is not of earth. This is Holy Music of the Universe
I love every version of this tune. This might be my favorite.
brecker's solo is incredible, and then herbie's solo is even better, and then buster william's is my favorite. never have i seen a bass solo on a song this fast, especially with no accompaniment, keep the momentum going this much.

Al Foster swings harder than the King's golden gate. What a master! Check out how much he milks the ride cymbal on this tune. So much taste....
Needless to say how good Herbie is.
This is beautiful.
those masters year after year bring something new nobody heard before. Incredible.
I always enjoy anything with Al Foster on drums!
I like the way Michael pays a little homage to Wayne before he goes full Brecker mode. After all hes playing with Herbie.
Good point. He really does sound like Wayne early in solo.

All these cats are saints
arguably, closest parallel to early Weather Report dynamic - ferocious, yet cerebral
And the rest of the quartet, what can you say? Magic
Whatever Michael Brecker is playing on, should be a thumbs up!
Thank you Louis-another great upload from your wonderful collection of music by the late, much missed, Michael Brecker. He was awesome.

I love it when Al Foster looks at Mike... it's like he's thinking "Now, hit the GAS!!!!" Zooom!
Wonderful
Damn this is happening everybody’s really on top of their game on this performance and sounding very cohesive.
Herbie is amazeballs!
This Don Grolnik tune is on Brecker's first solo album, "Michael Brecker". It's the first song.
No, it's the fourth. Best regards!
+Robin Nicaise correct!
Herbie! Unbelievable playing 🙏🏻
Wow Herbie, at 7:20. What a feel!
That whole minute!

Aloysius not Alex!
8:35 the lick kind of
Buster's tone though -- Damn!
”Some” notes to explore in Michael’s and Herbie’s solos 😌
Is that a Horace Silver call back at 9:47

hermano, como toca Buster!!!
Te gek! Bedankt voor het uploaden.
11:46 💥💥💥
@9:47 he's paying homage to Horace Silver's solo on "senor blues".
Bravo
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL..... I actually have a Dave Guardala super king tenor mouthpiece I play on.... n I have the cover of ...Don't Try This At Home ...tattooed on my Arm. Git it Mike
geweldig dit :-)
the tone on that contrabass...
He uses black nylon strings, gives it that nice growl..of course it's all in the hands as Jaco always said,,but I think the strings add to it...
do you have "i didn't know what time it was" by rodgers/hart from the same 1988 concert? that is an unbelieveable version...
You dig!
1:32 muppet character! :D miss you michael
Warcraft II Replays zoot 😂
Smokin'
3:50 - 4:19 - 4:38 - 4:51
Unsurpassable
almost sounds like a Don Grolnik tune
It is by Don Grolnick
Louis Gerrits
it reminded me of some tunes he wrong for Michael Brecker's "Escher Sketch" album
good ear, hunh ?
Wow, good ear. Yes!
5:45 - 5:58 Brutality
!!!
8:35 the lick
Pretty cool right?!?!
Um...I believe this would have blown Ludwig's mind.
Went up ”a bit” in tempo but nothing personal 🤣
haha herbie thinks the grolnick tune is strange?

This is more of a ‘building on fire’ situation, so the comping is really percussive more than harmonic.
