I am in complete agreement with you Maestro Beirach. Mr. Mraz’s complete command of his instrument is something to behold. And that mastery fueled the narrative of the beautiful solo on this video.
THIS is why, although I have mixed feeling about how the Internet has affected humanity, I LOVE TH-cam! What an incredible assemblage of musical talent. That both Michael Brecker and Roy Hargrove both died so young makes me sad. At least we have their music.
Amen. Roy was my high school classmate and friend. There's not a day that goes by when I don't feel some of his musical and spiritual presence. RIP Roy and Michael. 💔
This group is amazing: George Mraz introduction on doublebass IS AMAZING.. BEAUTIFUL.. BEAUTIFUL .. BEAUTIFUL.. please write his name.. drummer too! They are all great musicians! 😎
I saw Herbie Hancock this past June. His quintet's improvisational mastery was something beyond explanation. He did a number of songs from his catalogue, but every one of them was rearranged and expanded. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and he has not lost anything with age. I've been a fan for 50 years!
True! Every time I've had the privilege of listening to Herbie Hancock he plays thing from his back catalogue and it takes me half way through to work out what he's playing! A true master. Dare I say genius? [bows down]
Get scolded was probably not part of your plans posting this awesome video, but thank you for uploading and sharing. And sorry you got scolded throughout the comment section. lol
You can give the poster a bit of a break. The tour was booked and promoted as Directions in Music Hancock, Brecker and Hargrove. This was not the original group nor the group that recorded and released the Directions in Music recording from Toronto. That group had John Patitucci on bass and Brian Blade on drums. I know the deal as I was the tour manager and audio engineer for the original group tour. John, Brian and I had to leave as we were committed to tour with the Wayne Shorter Quartet. Both groups were wonderful.
Yeah this video description is not it. While Herbie, Michael Brecker and Roy Hargrove are playing on this, you also forgot about the remaining personnel in George Mraz on Bass and Willie Jones III on Drums. Furthermore, they are playing more than Impressions. They are also playing a tune that sounds an awful lot like Stella By Starlight. However, because of your laziness, I am not sure if that is indeed what they were playing, or if it was a contrafact. I hope that you will read this and revise your video description. And do better.
Hi Mr Musicmanson the second song’s name was misstery I guess But ıf you would like to check the name you can control it from Spotify the album’s name was Directions in Music Live at Massey Hall have a great day
thats george mraz on bass ,whoever put this up on utube ,,DONT LEAVE HIS NAME OUT !!! he was one of the greatest bass players of all time

Thanks 😂did not have to scroll far!!!
George's bass intro is one of the greatest things I've even seen someone do on an upright bass
Hargrove playing the trumpet with his eyes closed is just beautiful. He's completely in the zone.
This is some of the best bass playing I’ve ever scene in my life

The slow burn on Impressions kilt.

Wonderful example at the start how Bach laid the groundwork for Jazz but it was a long time in coming with music becoming rather lost in melody.
What about George Mraz?
IL N'EST JAMAIS ASSEZ DE RÉPROUVER LA FAUTE GRAVE, DE NE PAS MÉNTIONNER TOUS LES MUSICIENS, QUI PARTICIPENT DE LA VIDEO...!!! QUI JOUE LE BASS ???
MB.RH..Rip
Y el batería no tiene nombre?. Es también muy bueno.
Willie Jones III
Basso e batteria sono i figli dellla serva? Cisa aspetta l'autore del post sd sggiungere i loro nomi?
Wud like to know the key it is played in..
11:20
Please, what's the last tune?
Sure would like to know who the Bassist Is ! ?? He’s quite the journeyman!!
George Mraz
2 ads every 4 minutes. youtube is so greedy.
What's the second tune?
Stella by Starlight 😊
Brooding and incendiary…
who's on drums please?
Willie Joe Jones III
so is not important to place the contrabass or drummer players names ??!!!!!!
why don't you credit the whole band. To bad for your channel.
SO GEORGE DOESNT GET A MENTION?
The beauty about not mentioning players is that your appreciation of their art is not influenced by the name but your honesty.
WTF?!?!? You leave off the rhythm section names after that bass solo and that creativity? How rude. Please fix it.
And the rythm section....????????????
