Infinite's Mk5 successfully captures the look of the original while bringing in a level of detail we could've only imagined of before now. I see motifs from infinite's Mk6 and seemingly Hw2's Mk4 when I look at the undersuit. It's my favorite, and I hope this particular design sticks with the series for years to come.
There also seems to be some Reach design language in there as well. Maybe it's Reach borrowing from CE, and it's just come full circle... idk. It's fun.

Both Infinite’s and Marcus Lehto’s ‘updated’ Mark V are perfect in my eyes. Infinite for the ‘renewed’ take that still stays true and honors the original Mark V, and Marcus Lehto’s for the ‘legacy’ take, revitalizing the original.
Infinite's Mark V is my favorite. Lehto's remake deserves a special mention because it's almost purely a graphical upgrade with as few changes as possible. The lack of detail on the armor is deliberate, which results in a smoother look than the rest.
Yeah, I've seen a few recreations of the marines from CE in HD with as few changes as possible and they honestly look spectacular. Really makes me wish we got a proper remaster of those designs in Reach and CEA
Infinite's art team did a phenomenal job with the Mk V. It looks almost exactly like it did in CE, but with just enough tiny changes to push it into the 2020's. It feels believable as a halfway point between Mk IV and Mk VI, and even beats out the Lehto version to me by having better body proportions and textures. If Halo CE Anniversary was as well-made as H2A, I imagine Chief would look exactly like this Mk V does in Infinite there.

The new Infinite version of the Mark V is the best 343 version by a mile, and is the best version to appear in a Halo game since Halo 1. Lehto really nailed every single little detail with this revitalized MK V armor. Now the only question is… is Infinite’s MK V armor kit worth the $21 in the shop? 😭
For the armor's design, I love Lehto's and Infinite's designs most. In regards to the visor designs however, the OG, Halo 3, and Halo 5's are the my favorite. A key feature for visors for me is that they need some sort of detail on them to give a sort of "face." Halo CE had shadows baked into the visor from the upper sunvisor, giving the helmet some sort of "eyes." Halo 3 and 5 replicated this with adding engravings to it like most other helmets, since the old method was unrealistic in terms od lightings. Every other version of the armor seems to go for the original's smoothness but neglect the helmet's naad for a face, making it look sort of dead. And for color, I like OG's the most. The shiney texture being used for Chief's armor being similar to that of Covenant textures is a great world building design that shows that the armor was made with reverse-engineered Covenant shielding technology, and is a detail that any other design since then has lacked.
They ahould have kept the original slightly faded shinier armor coating for the kit in Infinite. Especially since the costing they chose looks almost identical to 2 other basic ass green coatings we already have.
Can someone explain the design choice of the "chin vents"? In the OG Mark V they curved along with the profile of the helmet. In recent versions, they stick out, unsupported, like little wings.
Man Lehto did such an amazing job, so did 343 with Infinite's MkV, but I hope at some point Lehto's can be modded into a game sometime. Shame it won't be put into a game in any official capacity.

Halo 4 and 5 have the opposite issues. The Helmet in 4 looks really good, but the armor looks like it has entire pieces missing. The armor in 5 looks pretty good (its just missing the utility belt with all the pouches and takes too many creative liberties) but its helmet looks pretty off.

"BTS: Anniversary Campaign" might give you 343 Industries' short, marketing-suitable version of the story. They were actually using the full Halo: Reach Mark V set-up in earlier builds (As well as the Halo: Reach Assault Rifle & Pistol), but then decided that it warranted a custom job that went through at least one iteration that the public saw before the final result. Unfortunately, the proportions didn't win it all that many favours, especially for the Helmet (At least that's the most common criticism it gets and it's the one thing that stops me liking it more than I otherwise would). It's just too bad the circumstances didn't allow for much more of the game's character, vehicle & weapon models to get such a treatment, let-alone a more considered one (I wouldn't say that every ported asset was an unwise choice, but it definitely bears the signs of "A project with a strict budget & a tight deadline" for how haphazard much of them are compared to Halo 2: Anniversary's more considered use of such ported assets, even if my only guess as to why they used the Halo 4 Warthog for it instead of the more-suited-for-the-era Reach one was "We've gotta shoehorn in our company's iconography" or some other nonsense).
Halo Infinite's art style took a lot from Reach, and it shows. The new MK5 looks refined with the added details, while Lehto's model is very true to the original, as if it was a higher poly model of the CE armor.
The one thing they all get wrong is the shine of the original. It made it look very futuristic where the modern redesigns just look like regular painted metal that you would see in the modern day, and that's boring.
I'm okay that the shiny gloss is gone. :P Honestly, it would be like painting a target on the wearer's back. Screaming "HI, I'M RIGHT HERE!!" So its probably an intentional detail that the Halo artists leave out.

It's just a symptom of the on and off again articulation of the mark 5 Hal combat evolves original Graphics left a lot to be desired while the game engine was robust and operation and adoption the graphic detail was sorely lacking. And then over the years they've sought to incorporate the previous Mark 5 until later Halo titles and they were only marginally successful in different artists have different takes with different timetables but the one in Halo infinite is definitely a faithful adoption while updating the cosmetics and remaining faithful:-)
I like seeing 343 reject CEA's design and go with a more classic but still detailed and sleek look. I think I might know why, which is because 343 acknowledges that if you look at the CEA it looks more like the halo 4 and 5 depictions, likely a lazy design choice by the people who made CEA.

I'm okay that the shiny gloss is gone. :P Honestly, it would be like painting a target on the wearer's back. Screaming "HI, I'M RIGHT HERE!!" So its probably an intentional detail that the Halo artists leave out.
2 best helmets 343 has designed is the mark 7, and without a doubt the mark 5 zeta.
Where did you pull these from?! That is not H4 and H5...
What
letho remake is the best, halo 5 looks goofy as hell, wtf were they thinking
Halo infinites is absolutely amazing along with the remake too
I hate, with a passion, CEA’s Mark V. I hate it more than I hate Halo 4 and 5s. It makes him look fat, for gods sake.
Don't forget the lil T-Rex arms too
@@nagger8216exactly. And the visor isn’t gold, and the armour colour is too light.
Incredible how pathetic the 343 versions are next to the Chad Lehto remake version.
The halo 4 and 5 one looked so awful jesus christ
All we need now is HW's MK IV 🙏
Nice to see they finally translated the original to modern graphics, seems like Bungie and 343 could never get it 100% right
Hey look, a mark V!
Mk V is timeless
I actually like how Halo 4 did the design helmet wise. As it feels more like the original same as Infinite. But also I like Halo 3’s version.
Holy shit, Mark V Alpha from Halo 5 is horrible 💀
I like the infinite mark v ce but the chest is slightly off and so are the pouches but i do not give a Fuck this is the most accurate mark v we have gotten ever from 343i in my opinion so I live to breath mark v armor lol Shit is perfection but I also love the mark v helmet from halo 3 it is my favorite variant of all the modern mark v helmet designs I wish they would have made the body of the armor in infinite like lehto’s
Tbf the armour (with the exception of the helmet) is based off of Eddie Smith’s version of the Mark V so that’s why they look different.
I think Lehto's is a perfect 10/10, but the one in Infinite is a solid 9/10.
Lehto seems to be the most accurate to the og but infinite is real close and looks amazing.
Lehto remake is a lot better but the ammo pouches on the infinite design are more detailed, a mix of both would be perfect.
it doesnt look detailed tho, its too faithful in a bad way
I especially like the Fusion Reactor’s side glowy bits on Lehto’s remake. Wish they had that on the Infinite one.
@@Spillow-C i'd rather the ammo pouches look more detailed but i get what you mean less is better sometimes.
@AttakusZakus ye this, the overall model is perfect, it just needs more of those glowing bits from the original and it would be beyond perfection
Lehto's is the best
Halo 4+5 looks like they duct tape armor to children.
Ima save my money by using the hero’s of reach mark v helmet💀
When did Lehto design that remake?
infinites mark v is genuinely gorgeous, sucks I gotta pay 20 big ones for it tho
Amazing to see this and realize that those past designs were really bad, halo infinite did an excellent job at redesigning and modelling the armors.
Lehto remake looks just like the Joyride Halo 1 action figures
1:28bro halo 5’s mk5 alpha looks so cartoonish wtf 😂
It's just a symptom of the on and off again articulation of the mark 5 Hal combat evolves original Graphics left a lot to be desired while the game engine was robust and operation and adoption the graphic detail was sorely lacking.
And then over the years they've sought to incorporate the previous Mark 5 until later Halo titles and they were only marginally successful in different artists have different takes with different timetables but the one in Halo infinite is definitely a faithful adoption while updating the cosmetics and remaining faithful:-)
this is honestly the most beautiful Halo armor but wtf is going on with the Halo 3 version
I like seeing 343 reject CEA's design and go with a more classic but still detailed and sleek look. I think I might know why, which is because 343 acknowledges that if you look at the CEA it looks more like the halo 4 and 5 depictions, likely a lazy design choice by the people who made CEA.
