Can't wait to see you do the ODST helmet, keep it up with the quality vids dude. We always hear talk about the artstyle of the Halo games, but we've never had a comparison about the helmets with this amout of detail.
Even the Chief upgraded to mark VII in Infinite. *Also there is a spartan in the Academy with the mark V Helmet, but it isn't attainable yet. Fingers crossed.
I've said it many times and I say it again, this may be an unpopular opinion, but Halo: Reach has by far the best armor models. The amount of different armors to choose from and customice til' your eyes bleed is just fabulous. It also includes my favorite take on the Mk. V to date. And yes, I was never old enough to play the OG games on console, but MCC made that a reality for someone like me who only plays on PC.
The “eye” shadow observation knocks me out! I feel really relaxed watching your content, knowing I’m listening to someone talk who can be objective about their given subject matter. Please keep going! :)
After CE, it was no longer Master Chief’s helmet, but it became a just as iconic figure any one can spot without a second thought, a Blue who hates Taxes like the rest of us, and also hates babies, the legendary Teamkiller and AI Expert: Micheal J Caboose Edit: also, personal favorite Mark V helmet easily goes to H5 and H3..
At 6:46 there's an extra point: The animations of CE include chief interacting with his helmet a few times, and he always interacts with the top of the helmet, so that part of the helmet had to remain the same profile all the way around. For example, when he puts Jenkin's recording into his helmet, and when he takes it off at the end of the game. In both cases if they had shrunken the upper part of the helmet such as slimming up the visor, they would have caused visual issues in these cutscenes since the cutscenes are the same animations in both original and Anniversary graphics. Knowing 343's tendency to go too far with their redesigns, they probably wanted very badly to redesign that part of the helmet, but the game wouldn't let them.
At 6:29 you pointed out that the lights were missing from one side of the helmet. I don't think it was a mistake. Wanna know why?: 343 almost certainly realized that when you turn on the flashlight in Halo CE, there is only one circle of light projected onto the scene. While it's possible that two lights right on top of each other could be angled in a way that makes them overlap pretty invisibly, two lights shining from both sides of the head just couldn't. They would create a crisscross pattern in the light of the flashlight. By removing the lights from one side they were being more true to the functionality of the original game's flashlight at the expense of being true to the original visuals, and I respect that as much as the alternative.
At 12:05 You gave your ranking, and mine is identical yo yours except that I'd shift Halo 3 up into 4th place, and let the others adjust down accordingly. Otherwise, exactly the same. That being said, I almost like Halo 4 as my second favorite, or maybe even my #1 favorite if not for something not visible in your front facing profiles of the helmets in your video. See, I love the H4 variant, but it's too bubbly back to front. As in, the visor bubbles out like it's been slightly inflated like a balloon, making the transition from the visor to the mouth piece feel wonky. It's not that it feels too far from the original in some nostalgic subjective way, but rather it's an objective design flaw that the transition is too smooth to communicate the differences in materials and structures between the visor and mouth piece. What it does is makes the vents feel thinner, making them feel less functional, because vents need internal space to perform ventilation. It's not like a computer processor that can be better engineered to be smaller. ventilators *must* have space for air to be held and moved without crushing that air into a liquid or solid state, and gasses can only move at a fixed speed limit through such a small opening, even when drawn by a complete vacuum like the vacuum of space, unless the are outside the vent is increased to push the air through. The vent can't change the air pressure outside the vent, and the helmet doesn't warp spacetime inside the vents to make them bigger on the inside, so even high MJOLNIR tech can't get around the material constraints put forth by breathable air itself. This means that you need to communicate with your art style that the vents have enough space inside, and the bubbled out visor of the H4 helmet doesn't do that. It's a huge turn off to an otherwise perfect rendition of the Mark 5 helmet. Literally, just change that one thing and I think H4 has the perfect version, even better than CE. Unfortunately as it stands it becomes my 3rd favorite like yours, OP.
That makes sense. Thing is, I was going back and forth on what I was going to call it. I ended up calling it shadows since they don’t change depending on which direction you see the helmet from. They act more like shadows than reflections, but of course it’s an old game, makes sense. Thanks for the correction!
I would just like to say that I am really enjoying these videos, I think they are well done and very informative so good job 👍. If I had to choose my favourites, my list would probably go... 1. CE mark V: it’s a classic and full of charm, nothing beats the original. 2. Reach mark V: looks like a mix between halo CE and halo 3, having a sleek appearance and the shape of halo 3, while still having that charm the CE helmet had. 3. Halo 3/halo 5 delta: a very nice looking helmet. The addition of the “eyes” was a good touch and looked really cool. 4. Halo 4: a very faithful yet aggressive look of the mark V very nice design, definitely an improvement over the CEA/FTR design. 5. CEA/FTR: I don’t like it, the visor is too big and almost bug-like, the bottom half below the visor is too thin and the vents are too big. Over all not a fan. The only thing I can praise are the addition of the “eyes” in FTR. 6. Halo 5 Alpha: probably the worst looking version of the mark V, the “eyes” are neat I suppose but it sufferers the same problem as seeker where how does the user not feel uncomfortable wearing it. It’s way too thin, the top half doesn’t resemble the mark V and there are parts that look out of place or are too big, it’s just over all an ugly mess. EDIT: I would have added the eddie smith design to the list, but it’s basically the mark IV with a few tiny differences and it has never been shown in game and been called “mark V”.
Honestly I have to agree. Halo 4’s main art direction didn’t do much for me, but god damn did it make my beloved Mark V look arguably the best it ever has. Only helmets that ever hold a candle to it for me are the MK VI, Hayabusa, and the new Infinite helmets like the Samurai and the MK VII
Thank you so much! I do put a lot of effort into it, so I’m glad people enjoy it. And I appreciate you being in the chat during the premiere, it was great having you there!
Ever since I was a child I always loved the Mark V helmet. The Mark V Is what pops In my head when I hear "The Master Chief" hands down favor helmet in Halo. Just found this channel yesterday at work and I love the videos
I love Master Chief's Mark V armor and helmet in *Halo: CE Anniversary* the most. It gives me the true feel of the sharp experience of how the Mark V would truly look. And fun fact, I'm keeping my Noble Six character with the default Mark V[B] armor in *Halo: Reach.* The only things I added to him were the UA attachment for the helmet and the UA/Base Security shoulder pads to make him more fit in with the rest of Noble Team.
Sorry dude I personally disagree I think the CEA mark V is too curvy, visor is too big, the sides of the helmet below the visor are too thin and those vents are too large, I personally believe halo 4 did the CEA helmet the best because it fixed those problems, CEA and fire team raven just look too bug eyed to me but I’m glad you like it.
@@apexarmada1419 Everyone has their own opinions. And im sure others would agree with me that the Mark V in *Halo: CE Anniversary* is one of the best ones.
I personally preferred the OG CE MK V helmet the most. I think the angles of the visor it’s self look more aesthetically pleasing for the eye and matches the shape of the helmet itself. Also I will always prefer the shadows of Chiefs brim cast onto the visor. I know it was because of a lack of graphical hardware at the time but honestly the shadows make sense. His bill sticks far enough that in real life that it would always be set in place on the visor on almost any angle and adds depth to the fullness of the visor. The others look good but seems like the visor looks so much wider without this effect. Just a large void of gold imo. Classic for sure.
I have always loved Mark V, it means so much to me. From my love for RvB and Caboose, to Halo CE, It has always been my main helmet. In my weird opinion, It always looks "cute" in a way. Same thing with Helioskrill
Thank you so much for giving some love to my all favorite helmet! Do you think you'll be looking at the evolution of the Mark IV, or the body armor in the future?
Halo 3 has my favorite design of the Mk. V. Second favorite is a tie between CE(original) and Reach. The Halo Reach mk. V armor was originally going to be used in Halo CE Anniversary before it was changed to the new model. The file can actually be found in the game, as well as it was used in the Halo CE Anniversary Terminals. Also, Tucker did it...
The Mk. V has been my helmet of choice since Halo 3. Its simplicity gives it character, I think. The best models for it, in my opinion, are Halo 3's and the "Mark V Delta" from Guardians, which are basically the same with some minor differences.
My first halo was halo 3 which I first played when I was 5. The "green big guy cool, purple aliens bad" made me laugh so hard out of how perfectly it encapsulated Halo for me as a child.
Halo Wars? Red Team sports the Mark IV, which is the actual predecessor to the Mark V. Halo Wars 1 and 2 sport different renditions as well. Would've really liked those to have been included, but other wise, fantastic video as always! :)
This. I want 343 to use that design as the base going forward. I don't get why they just did a completely different design and remade Halo 3's in Halo 5.
@@Wernissage i liked it too! I'm very curious of the old 90 mark V design with the silver details, i would LOVE to see a high def rendition of that suit, mabye even have it resurrected for infinite! To me that design is very much at the core of halo itself "ancient but futuristic"
Great video, another interesting helmet to tackle is the halo wars/halo wars 2 helmets. Especially halo wars 2 with 3 helmet designs (the cinematic Mark IV, the menu spartan, and the in game model) I think it would be cool because all 3 are different, and if you wanted to add on you can talk about the 1st halo wars too!
Yeah I’d love to make a video about Mark IV some time in the future! It’s a very interesting set of helmets, since - like you said - they’re very different from one another. We’ll see what happens✌️
Halo 3’s Mk.V, Halo Reaches Mk.V, and Halo 5’s Mark.V Delta are my favourite versions. Mark.V in general is my favourite Armour and I’ll be repping the helm in infinite for sure.
I love these! Not sure what other helmets you could do but I just love the artwork that really shows the differences beyond how we perceive them in the games.
It's going to sound odd, but I think Mark V Alpha has grown on me the most, it's definitely funky looking and I understand why a lot of people don't like it, but for some reason, for me it just... Works.
Gotta love the old MK V. Always enjoyed decking out in it for the reach campaign. I have strong opinions on the story in that game and dressing in mk v helped make it feel like less of a bastardization and more possibly canon to me.
Wernissage - The Art of Halo your voice and narration are perfectly fine, I just felt the volume was a bit low (and as a non-native English speaker, that may be more important for my understanding than for others). Anyways, thanks for the video and can't wait to see what's next!
i love those type of video man keep the work .the mark V is my favorite helmet in halo (halo 3 reach and the delta variation of halo 5) will we get to see the mk IV (the halo wars 1 and 2 and its halo 5 variant?) and will you do video about the (overall armor too?)
Interesting! Personally none of the renditions of Mark V after CE really lived up for me, I admit I'm a little bummed out we never got a 1:1 recreation of the iconic helmet.
I love the Mark 5 armour in general. What always annoyed me is that there wasn't any dedicated full set of Mark 5 armour in either Halo 3 or Reach. It's one of the few things I'll praise about Halo 4 - 343 not only provided the full set of armour for the first time since Halo CE, but it was faithful to the original in terms of design. No clue what drugs they were on for the Mark 5A in Halo 5 though. Here's to hoping that it continues appearing in future titles. I'd like to see how it would look like with Infinite's more beefed-up looking artstyle for the Spartans.
The Mk V is definitely defining feature for anyone wanting to project their personality in multiplayer. Not flashy, not simple, just believable and reeking of nostalgia. I hold on to it as my main armor setup as a reminder of Halo's glory years and what it means to still play Halo these days.
Each helmet actually has its own generation like the alpha, beta, gamma, delta. The mk 5 in halo 3 and halo 5 is the mk 5 delta. (The crappy looking one in halo 5 is mk 5 alpha) The mk 5 in halo ce and halo 4 (dlc) is mk 5 gamma. The mk 5 in halo reach is the mk 5 gamma (prototype). The mk 5 (b) in halo reach is the mk 5 beta.
Here, this is my personal ranking for all the designs of this absolute classic masterpiece of a helmet Halo 5 (Mark V Delta) Halo 3 Halo CE Halo Fireteam Raven Halo CEA Halo 4 Halo Reach Halo 5 (Mark V Alpha)
Always used the Mark V when I could, at least until I unlocked Recon in 3, but otherwise the Mark V helmet was always the most visually pleasing for me My Reach spartan still uses the Mark V helmet!
No by looking when picking the helmet says: _An oldie, but always the favourite of the people_ on from 4 and 5 (the description is invented, but gives that feeling)
I have respect for the mark v alpha because every other helmet doesn’t seem to get the bottom helmet vents that pops out of the helmet, similar to reach but the vents don’t look like they go to anything
The Halo CE Mark V is still my favorite design. I would like to see a exact copy of it one day in a Halo game. The anniversary Mark V just doesn't do it for me the visor is just way to big.
note: If you look at the textures for the Anniversary Mark V helmet, You will see that the visor has the shadow that was on the original helmet. We just don't see that shadow during gameplay, But the anniversary helmet does have the shadow on the visor
The original Mark V amour show cased in Halo CE was actually also present in the early Halo builds of 1997-98 as you can see here twitter.com/game_fabricator/status/700529126734573569/photo/1
In the Master Chief Collection, the only unlockable helmet permutation for Halo 2 Anniversary is the so-called ORION helmet which is either heavily based on the pre-release version of the Mark V or is a direct recreation of it.
The entire ORION set was released as a direct remaster of the Macworld Halo showcase for Halo's 20th anniversary. It was even sort of made canon with some descriptions on the items. Also Im pretty sure theres a couple other armor sets to choose
Mark V is always my go to choice when customizing my armor, really hope to see it in infinite
Ah, I see you’re a man of culture as well!
As is mine, it's my favorite helmet.
Nice. I use a green mk5 with a silver visor when available.
IIRC in the most recent waypoint article they said to expect every piece of armor to return!
Well if you saw the MP screen shots and news, it will be, along with every armor to ever be in halo.
Fun fact: The Mark V Alpha is based off of a statue of Chief created for E3 to show off the Alpha build of CE. It wasn’t a very good looking statue.
That's funny, too bad 343 asked us to pay money to get the ugly ass helmet

The MK V from Halo 4 was probably the best looking in my personal opinion, for some reason I like it a bit more than the original
I don’t blame you, I adore it! It’s a really accurate and interesting take on CE’s design.
Same for me man.
This.
I want 343 to use that design as the base going forward. I don't get why they just did a completely different design and remade Halo 3's in Halo 5.
I found it interesting that Mark V Alpha and Halo 4 Mark V were the only versions where the circles on the lower sides of the helmet reappeared
Wow, did you draw all those helmet comparisons yourself? I’m super curious!
Yeah I did, and it took way too long lol. But they're great for comparing the helmets, makes everything much more clear.
Wernissage - The Art of Halo Gosh, you did an outstanding job
@@rookie4582 Thank you!
And thank you!:)
I believe Halo 5 has a variant of Mark IV as well, to celebrate Halo Wars 2
Gavin _197 yeah it does, thanks for reminding me! :)
Mark V is THE Classic armour...I really enjoy these videos dude, keep it up.
Doesn’t get more classic than that! Thank you!
Halo Reach is definitely my favourite rendition of the MK 5
The original Halo CE Mark V helmet is my absolute favorite.
Halo 3’s Mk.V, Halo Reaches Mk.V, and Halo 5’s Mark.V Delta are my favourite versions. Mark.V in general is my favourite Armour and I’ll be repping the helm in infinite for sure.
They're all amazing. Here's hoping Infinite's Mark V will be as iconic as the ones that came before it!
I love these! Not sure what other helmets you could do but I just love the artwork that really shows the differences beyond how we perceive them in the games.
Thank you! I put a lot of time into them, so I'm glad you enjoy them.
Funny, I've been playing all games in the mcc and have never even ONCE played in blood gultch... 343 really dropped that ball.
Yeah, for some reason its mostly DLC or shitty forge maps that keeps getting chosen for matches.
Wut? Not once?
343!!! WE GOT A FRICKIN PROBLEM MATE
@@MasterHall117 no clue why, I play a lot of ctf, and btb...
Are you implying that they did that on purpose or that they messed up in the program?
@@RAMZAVFX
Same
It's going to sound odd, but I think Mark V Alpha has grown on me the most, it's definitely funky looking and I understand why a lot of people don't like it, but for some reason, for me it just... Works.
The Halo 3 Mark V was always my favorite
Halo Reach and CE are my favorite!
HOW does this channel only have 280 subs?!?!?!?
Dootuz I’ve gotten way more subs than I was expecting lol, but yeah I don’t mind more I guess! Glad you seemed to enjoy the video!
@@Wernissage And that was 7 months ago, The algorithm really liked you.
Gotta love the old MK V. Always enjoyed decking out in it for the reach campaign. I have strong opinions on the story in that game and dressing in mk v helped make it feel like less of a bastardization and more possibly canon to me.
Another really interesting and unique video, thank you for this!
(if I may: IMHO turning up a bit the volume of your voice would make it even better!)
Halocrea Thank you! Yeah I’m not entirely happy with my voice yet, hopefully it’ll be better next video!
Wernissage - The Art of Halo your voice and narration are perfectly fine, I just felt the volume was a bit low (and as a non-native English speaker, that may be more important for my understanding than for others). Anyways, thanks for the video and can't wait to see what's next!
Loved the art!
After looking at this video i have decided that the Halo Reach one is the goat and 3 is not far after. I just like there shapes more
i love those type of video man keep the work .the mark V is my favorite helmet in halo (halo 3 reach and the delta variation of halo 5) will we get to see the mk IV (the halo wars 1 and 2 and its halo 5 variant?) and will you do video about the (overall armor too?)
Thank you! I’ll definitely make a video of the Mark IV some day. Not sure about the overall armor, but we’ll see!
I'm glad someone else thinks that the Halo 4 mark V is the most faithful design
It’s sooo good
Interesting! Personally none of the renditions of Mark V after CE really lived up for me, I admit I'm a little bummed out we never got a 1:1 recreation of the iconic helmet.
What an excellent video!
Thank you!
They should bring back the 1999 helmet for Infinite's customisation.
That intro man
*wipes tear*
that goddamn into
The lights on the halo 5 delta helmet are a reference to the flashlight function from CE, where only one side lights up.

Oh look, there's Perry.
Keep it up! This was great!
Israel Hoffman Thank you so much!
It’s just simple yet aggressive. I like that
My favorite out of all of them is the Reach version, and it pains me that we never went back to that design.
Reach Mark V should have been used for Chief in CEA Campaign
You have done a very good job ! Continue like this !
Unpopular view: I really like the halo 5 alpha varient its big and bulky while staying true to the original design.
Each helmet actually has its own generation like the alpha, beta, gamma, delta.
The mk 5 in halo 3 and halo 5 is the mk 5 delta. (The crappy looking one in halo 5 is mk 5 alpha)
The mk 5 in halo ce and halo 4 (dlc) is mk 5 gamma.
The mk 5 in halo reach is the mk 5 gamma (prototype).
The mk 5 (b) in halo reach is the mk 5 beta.
Love this video, such a unique look at the differences.
Thank you!
I visibly shuddered when I saw the Mark V Alpha. What the hell even is that thing?
I'm gonna be honest, my favorite helmet is Reach's. Really hope theres something like Reach's in Infinite
Here, this is my personal ranking for all the designs of this absolute classic masterpiece of a helmet
Halo 5 (Mark V Delta)
Halo 3
Halo CE
Halo Fireteam Raven
Halo CEA
Halo 4
Halo Reach
Halo 5 (Mark V Alpha)
Nice
OG Mark V is the best armor. Period.
Always used the Mark V when I could, at least until I unlocked Recon in 3, but otherwise the Mark V helmet was always the most visually pleasing for me
My Reach spartan still uses the Mark V helmet!
No by looking when picking the helmet says: _An oldie, but always the favourite of the people_ on from 4 and 5 (the description is invented, but gives that feeling)
I can be the only one that likes the mark 5 in halo reach imo its the best looking one
I have respect for the mark v alpha because every other helmet doesn’t seem to get the bottom helmet vents that pops out of the helmet, similar to reach but the vents don’t look like they go to anything
Halo 3 may have been the first Halo game I ever played, but I honestly love the Mark V the most.
The Halo CE Mark V is still my favorite design. I would like to see a exact copy of it one day in a Halo game. The anniversary Mark V just doesn't do it for me the visor is just way to big.
I have never clicked on a video so fast
A true fan🙏
note: If you look at the textures for the Anniversary Mark V helmet, You will see that the visor has the shadow that was on the original helmet. We just don't see that shadow during gameplay, But the anniversary helmet does have the shadow on the visor
The Reach MK V is TOP fucking notch, easily my favorite, great design and lots of nostalgia.
it would be nice to see you do an analysis of the mark iv, and maybe a comparison to the mark v
The Halo 3 version will always be my favorite, and it's not just because it's the game I have the most memories with.
Love the music selection
Great video once again, loved it. one note isn't the armor from halo wars MK V or is that at that point considered IV?
Thank you! Nah I’m pretty sure that’s Mark IV, but I’ll definitely make a video of that helmet some time in the future!
The original Mark V amour show cased in Halo CE was actually also present in the early Halo builds of 1997-98 as you can see here

Halo 4 Mark 5 is definitely the best, it was to me what the Mark 5 should look like.
Am I the only one who whenever see the H3 mark 5 helmet always think of Caboose from Rvb?
Btw your recreation images are great, do you allow others to make use of them and if you do then do you have any public database where you keep them?
