Hey I just bought a can and the product seems like it works very slow I let it sit for about an hour and it only removed a little bit of paint. Does it have to fully dry before removing all paint?
@@sixtyfourdroptop1207 I'd apply a heavier coat, it shouldn't need an hour. A heavy coat multiple times and let it sit 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse and repeat as needed. You'll know you applied a heavy enough coat when you see the paint bubbling over the majority of the item you are spraying. Let that chemical reaction happen for about 10 to 15 minutes
Did this stuff back in 2006. The stripper fluid is acetone based solvent. It helps break down the oil gunk too for cleaning engine blocks and cylinder heads.
Great video man. I'm doing some community service at my local church and was using the sanding method on guard rails, car port frame, etc and it was exhausting. Lol. This will let me do it all in minutes vs hrs or days. Thanks!
Good point you make and if you notice this is why I did this at a car wash station as the Clean Water Act in my state at least requires professional car washes to route car wash wastewater to water treatment facilities or to state-approved drainage facilities designed to protect the environment. Figured they would do a better job than me personally disposing the waste. Proper chemical disposal wasn't the topic of this video, but appreciate your comment and figured I'd break down my thought process for you! So you can buy this in 1 gal cans. Is that a liquid or a snot looking substance.... what I'd really like is to find something I could submerge items in that work this well
As a side note to your rude commenters.... there's a lot of shit that is extreamly toxic. Your country is famous for blasting that shit all over the place so get real. Ie: agent orange, fucking white phosphorous, various nerve agents.... c'mon people take your blinders off.... you think aircraft remover is soooooo bad for the environment you have another thing coming.
@@dustinalexander156 man I appreciate the support, I try to let the non constructive comments roll off my back and take the necessary info from it. To your question sure can get a rather large jug of aircraft remover! Not sure the exact capacity, but auto zone and advance auto parts both sell a large can prob close to a gallon. If not there, Lowes and Home Depot are other options
Bought 3 separate cans every single one stopped working lol one at still a full can no air and 2 at half a can I ended up just getting the can of it and using a bowl and a brush and brushing it on works awesome just wish the cans worked better for me
haha had some unfortunate luck there, but glad you were able to get it to work eventually. I agree with using this product straight out of a can is easier and will allow a thicker application too, it's some strong stuff
Wow... I am doing this stripping for the first time. I tried sanding it and didn't get all the paint off also left a lot of scratches in the metal. I tried painting it anyway and it looks terrible. So now thinking of trying the paint stripping method and then try to get the sanding scratches out with fine sandpaper. Hope it works. It was amazing how that pressure washer peeled it off and I just happen to have one. Thanks for the video.
Barry Wind sounds like a solid plan. Pre prep of the valve cove is definitely key in getting that good finish. Good luck and if you're able please share the end results with me here! Always like seeing others paint jobs
It probably helped that the paint was clearly pretty flaky to begin with. I'm going to try to remove the paint and priming off my aluminium bike frame, I have the feeling it won't be as easy as this. I hear liquid paint remover that you have to apply with a brush is cheaper and works even better?
Nah it will be, aircraft remover is powerful paint remover. I've used it many times before this video on intact paint job hence why I knew it would work well on this valve cover. Liquid paint remover maybe cheaper...by a few dollars but more work to apply by brush especially to an entire bike frame. But do what you feel the most comfortable with...that's the best way to get good end results
Not at all, aircraft stripper is methylene chloride based and will eat paint but doesn't have the chemical makeup to harm metals. Great question by the way!
Was That black paint factory paint or was that just somebody with a spray paint can after the fact? If that black paint was Honda factory paint I’m impressed but if it was just an aftermarket rust oleum spray paint job then yeah I would expect the aircraft remover to do that
When I bought it from Autozone it was around $10, not too expensive for how effective it is and the time savings. You can get this stuff online as well and other car parts stores I am sure
