    Thanks. NOTE: When handling the "button Cell" battery, wear gloves. or clean it with cotton to remove fingerprints. the oils in your battery can kill it. Normally these last 3 to 7 years. with a fingerprint, it can be less than 1/4 of its regular life (or less).

    On old Toshiba Satellites (C655), you can access the CMOS battery by removing the keyboard. Four screws, no big deal compared to removing the 20 screws on the case.... My laptop refused to boot. I removed the hard drive and put it in an identical C655 and it booted fine (and I backed up my data!). On boot, I got the "CMOS battery" error message so I checked the battery on the old computer - 3.2 volts. Still does not boot. Maybe the motherboard is bad. Geez, it is only like 12 years old, too! Just don't make 'em like they used to! ;) Maybe it is time for a new computer..... I hate Windows 10 or later, though.

      Ya if its giving you a low battery error then I would replace the CMOS battery. If that does not work, then ya, you may be looking at a bad motherboard :(

    The First Computer you showed us should have been the one you showed us how to reset the BIOS . if the First Toshiba you showed us was a C55D is it true that the CMOS Battery IS the Laptop Battery and if that goes dead you can not even start the computer with the AC Power supply cord ? Mine starts and gets to the Toshiba LOGO screen and stays there and eventually after 5 Minutes or shuts down .

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I create my videos the way I see fit at the time. Thx though ;)
      Yes, its true that many times if a CMOS battery is dead, the computer wont start. Before the operating system can boot up, BIOS has to load. If BIOS cant load, there is no system to start the operating system.
      However, if your seeing the Toshiba logo, then thats a good indicator that BIOS has loaded successfully and has handed over the boot up sequence to the operating system. The operating system is what is failing to load, not BIOS. Can you try the steps seen here? th-cam.com/video/2Hh1wIS9NDo/w-d-xo.html

      Just checked the manual for a Toshiba Sat. L50D-B laptop - BIOS/RTC low battery is directly dependent on the main battery. I infer from that that there is no CMOS Battery on this type of model (which looks otherwise exactly as the laptop shown first in the video). As you correctly pointed out. Rather confusing ...

    Can you tell me where the CMOS reset pins are on a Toshiba S75DT-A7330. Removing the CMOS battery does not cause a BIOS reset. It requires CMOS be shorted out to reset. Computer is locked up with a System lost P/W and not accessible. Thank for any help you can provide.

      @davidappel2844 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PC_Monkey Understood. Unfortunately the Toshiba Authorized Service cost for this is out of my range. Other (older) Toshiba laptop models have more CMOS reset documentation available. Some would even reset simply by removing the BIOS battery for 20 or so minutes. And other models have clearly marked "pins" which can be shorted out- not so for this model. I have drilled down on the internet in search of an answer to this issue; so far. w/o success. The System P/W is result of a mean spirited person's attempt to cause emotional distress; however, I am not so easily damaged, or abused. I know this can be solved, though it might take some time... I have a satellite C55D-B5212 which as far as I can tell does not have a CMOS battery. Where the CMOS battery would go, it looks like it is integrated into the motherboard. I have left the laptop on for a couple of days, but when you power it off and back on, you still get the RTC battery is low message and takes you into the BIOS setup once you hit the enter key. Once you set the date and time and save the settings you will get the RTC message again if you ever turn the laptop off and back on. Is there a fix for this or you just have to leave your laptop on all the time.? I am going to check and see if there is an BIOS, or some other, update that will fix the problem.

    • @PC_Monkey

      Sounds like the CMOS battery has failed. You would need to replace it. If its soldered onto the motherboard, you would need to remove it and replace it. Either you can do that with the correct equipment or a shop can do it for you. If not, the motherboard would have to be replaced.

The part of the board where the a/c adaptor was plugged into was slightly bent, so that may have been the problem. It was a Toshiba laptop. I had several people tell me Toshiba is junk. The guidance I've read to reset CMOS is to remove laptop battery (two screws) and leave it out for an hour or two and that should reset the CMOS. Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/zIBnPkt-Gus/w-d-xo.html. At 2:22 in the video, you can see a spot for a CMOS battery on the right side of the motherboard, just above the fan. So my answer would be, it depends on your model. Some will have a CMOS battery and others, like the one seen in the video may not.

    So one time I was searching through the web trying to update my drives on my computer. I was looking through my manufacturer’s website and I was on Toshiba.com and then I was looking up my computers model number and when I found my computer’s model number I was starting to get the updates for my computer then I stumbled upon an update for my computer’s BIOS and so I decided to download a random file to download but it only said that it was compatible with “Windows XP, so I installed it and when it was done downloading I clicked the file on my screen and it said that it was downloading so I waited until it said to “not turn off your computer” and I actually did. (My computer only turns on with an AC cable connected to it and that’s the only way I can turn on my computer but I think the battery I have inside of my computer that does not work no more and I think I should get a new one) But anyways as soon as it told me not to unplug my computer I did and now when I connect my AC cable to my Toshiba Satellite computer, it does not turn on more and I don’t know what happened. So now that I explained everything to you guys can somebody please explain to me what happened and how I can recover my computer easily. My computer runs Windows 10 Pro on it and I upgraded the parts inside of my computer like the hard drive and the ram to make my computer more faster enough to run Windows 10 OS because my computer ran Windows Vista Basic once but not anymore.
