I would like to thank you so much. I don't know much about computers and I don't have much money, but by watching this video I was able to order that power plug part for $7.00 and fix my computer! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Acer - Sony Vaio - but Toshiba That I originally began with wih 4 gig of Ram on a basic Pentium Chip-set,beats the now dead Acer & Sony Vaio and there crazy recover set-up's with all sorts of massive problems. This Toshiba cost £100 and that was 3 - years ago on Windows 7 Clean Build, works way better than most new Laptops as changed simple Ram and type-in the box Memory Diagnostics & RUN it's now rated at 6.9 on a massively fast yet reliable Laptop. Why i subscribed to you many mons ago as your a great Tech-Guy and respect is Due ...Cheers ( Also Have A Dyno-Dock That Plugs -In To My TV By Toshiba ) but use my Firestick for any android build ...many thanks again : )

Excellent troubleshooting of that laptop. I probably would not have removed the Motherboard first, though, but just tested the incoming power at the solder points where the harness connector is soldered to the Motherboard. Great video.

Dude. This just confirms that I did the troubleshoot on a clients laptop power issue correct. I didn't have the extra power jack laying around, so I want right ahead and bought a new one. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it solves the issue as well. If not, I'm going to have to tell my client that it better to get a new laptop cuz the cost of a new motherboard and troubleshooting further will be too costly. It would be best to get another laptop, doesn't gotta be new of course.

Nice trick with taping the screws to the part they're taken off. Not sure but I think you could have accessed the other end of the power jumper by taking the bottom off on this unit, saving the hassle of pulling the keyboard and motherboard.

Nice, you could check the power mass before dismounting, I have seen it disconnected on a video. Regards (yes that first connector cable can get cut , now if the negative was cut you may have seen it before opening with a continuity check between masses of the different connectors

I wanted to say Great video well done ''I hate the videos that have no dialog and pointing no explanation'' You explained really well, liked your tip on screws.I have a Toshiba C55-B5240 that was given to me a while has a cracked screen and doesn't turn on. Going to try your method to see where it takes me. You have the same troubleshooting as I do example starting at the Power source with a Multimeter as your !st step and working your way down that's how would've started also.I work on Hydraulic Equipment, Machines working off electricity and always start at the Power source, Goodman Keep Up the Good Work.

So I have a stupid question... I am working on a Toshiba Satellite C855-S5349N. I have two power boxes to try. Both are reading 18v instead of the 19v it is supposed to be. Is that gonna be an issue?

Hi Steve. Absolutely hands down the best vedio on this subject. Question....at the end you said you re-installed your own operating system...is that because you were keeping the laptop or because once you get it turn on you MUST reinstall the operating system. I have similar issue with my laptop that I am keeping. So, after I go through the steps to fix the power port do I need to reinstall the operating system or will it start as before? Thanks.

I was told by a Geek Squad tech at Best Buy that I could not get a new power housing for my Toshiba because replacement parts are only available if the computer is 2 years old or less. What do you think ... is he telling me the truth, or do they just want me to buy a new computer at Best Buy?

I looked at an HP laptop for a friend. Dead as a hammer. Took it apart, and found blower system loaded with cat hair. About 1/4" thick layer completely covering the blower exhaust. Power supply parts were darkened nearby, probably cooked. Used an DMM and found a defective 3 lead power transistor with NO part numbers on the motherboard. Junk - end of story.

Thank you for teaching me so much about computers Ron Swanson. I am hoping you might have some insight for troubleshooting my own laptop. Since I accidentally broke a ribbon from the power button to the motherboard when cleaning my fan, I have been short circuit it with another ribbon wire. Which worked fine, but I got some crazy sparks last time I did it and I'm getting an orange flashing light when I plug my AC charger in (which ai believe indicates a power supply problem). That should mean I'm getting power, but no green light. Any ideas for troubleshooting? And also, if ai can fix that, any ideas for turning power on without the power button? Thanks Mr. Swanson

my moms ol' Lenovo has a bad power jack (lose connection) and I WAS going to take it in to get it fixed - saw this video and I know I CAN just order a replacement power jack and BOOM: Fixed!

Enjoy n appreciate your video Vy much. Have the same C655. My problem is the charging light quit a few days ago, but PC would still run with the battery. Battery has limited power n would die eventually if there is no charging.. Took apart all covers to access the jack n connection to motherboard. Multimeter tested 19 v at both locations. Power reach motherboard. Since PC runs on battery, but not on charger power, suspect faulty motherboard. Try different adaptor of same output. Same results. Your advice please.

I have a Toshiba L655D-S5050 and swapped out motherboards. I had a failed video card on original board. Prior to change you would hear hard drive fire up but no video display. I had been having random video card errors and machine tossing a blue screen. Now with the new motherboard installed, I see I have my lighted power indicators with both power supply and battery but absolutely no response when I push the power button. I've even pulled each piece out to limit what the issue may be (memory cards, hard drive, etc). Might this be a power button component failure? How can I test the power button output? I even went back to re-install the old drive to now get the same issue. Absolutely no response when I press the power button. Thoughts? Thanks!

Hey Steve great video,i juat watched itcause rigth now i have a Toshiba C55 -A5311 laptop from a friend, and its showing the same problem,it does not power up,nor start nor show any signs of life, starting from the power cable and it works, then the AC or DC cable that goes to the motherboard and it to shows the 19.3v as the charger when icheck them with the multimeter or amperimeter,so the problem seems more in the motherboard,do you have a video when instead of the cable that goes to he motherboard its some else?

i have satellite L745 and it does not turn on. The power plug indicator light is on but when i power it up by pressing the power button, the power light comes on and the hardrive blinks. System is able to post and about to boot to windows for a period of time however it shuts everything off and leaves me power plug light indicator only on the laptop indicator lights. Could this be also a problem of the power jack? I have tested my HDD, memory modules, and ODD on my other laptop and these parts just works fine.
