As harsh as the lighting is, I do like the dark morning light. Feels like nostalgic school mornings waiting for the bus

And in mine it depended (still depends for those who are currently school-age) on how far from the school you live (the cutoff is lower for the youngest kids), and whether there’s a safe road to walk/bike all the way to school. A couple of my classmates took the bus even though they lived just under 4 km away because the speed limit was (still is) 80 km/h most of the way, and anything over 50 km/h is considered unsafe for school kids.

@@ragnkja yeah it definitely depends. I lived far from my school, sometimes I took the public bus but other times I had a school bus. Definitely preferred the school bus though because for the public bus, I had to wake up at 5am and take 2 buses 😭
also a ton of modders make shaders for harsh light so it's quite a popular trend with people like simlicy, who has harsh shadows as a default!

I built a house and furnished/decorated every room based off pinterest (like I literally searched 'kitchen' on pinterest and then tried to match the results that came up first or most often). I'd love to see Kayla try this too! Might inspire her to move away from her standard furniture picks :P

Not at all. I often find Simsie puts something down that is PERFECT for the room (Color compliments rather than matches completely) and then she says its "A bit much" and goes for something different and a lot more neutral/basic. I feel like she really could just go with her first gut instinct and make things really pop but doubts herself too much to stick with it.

You don't have to have a fireplace to have a chimney. Furnaces, boilers, and wood pellet stoves all require chimneys for venting of exhaust/smoke. And quite often furnaces, boilers, and wood pellet stoves are placed in basements.

And it’s also normal to build the house first and maybe add a fireplace later, and in that case it’s _really_ useful to already have the chimney.
Well then you would need a basement. It would be weird to say there’s a furnace in the basement and then not have a basement. But also, if you have a place a fireplace could technically go then you can just pretend there used to be a fireplace but it got boarded up.

Kayla's favorite front door is my least favorite! It has such a tiny weird knob vs other doors and its color swatch makes it look so odd haha. I wish it was slightly bigger!

A realistic way to fit more stuff into small lots like that would be basements. I know Simsie is from Florida where they don't really do basements much, but most of the rest of North America has them. I lived in a small house in middle school that was a bungalow with a basement. My parents and baby brother had bedrooms on the main floor, and the basement had an office, a laundry room, and my bedroom. The house I lived in in highschool was bigger, with three bedrooms on the top floor, but still had a fair sized basement, with a room that could have easily been converted into another bedroom if needed.
Outside the US it’s also more normal not to have a ‘yard’ the same size as the actual house. Like that yard is huge and not necessary.
Basements are a total novelty for me, we don’t really have them in the UK. Some old townhouses do have basements, but they’re not properly underground, there are usually steps going down from street level on the outside too so they have windows (even though there wouldn’t be a great deal of natural light) and their own exterior door, in the past they would’ve been used as servants’ quarters.

"Escape out of" is super accurate though. I put one in my teen werewolf's room without thinking, locked the door when she started raging, and out the window like an overhyper husky she went

and a different floor! I love her builds but that floor swatch she uses looks soooo plasticky. It reminds me of those linoleum fake wood floors. There are better wood floor swatches in the BG even.

Simsie really needs to challenge herself to build a multi floor house... do it 3-4-5 or heck even 6 floors... Doing a 2 floor house that's tiny but fits 100 people, might as well make it 3 floors you know... give you the space you need without having to cramp everything.

I haven’t played The Sims in years, but a few years ago I started watching LilSimsie, Plumbella and James Turner build houses. I stayed watching LilSimsie for her personality and her great builds and challenges. I like to watch after a long work day or while I’m cooking or something. I guess it’s her consistency and the happiness / joy she spreads :) (Oh, I almost never comment, but Kayla deserved one after years!)

@@maxx207 I don't force myself to use things I don't like, but she really uses such a crazy limited range of items. She can do whatever she wants, but constantly sticking to the same items makes her houses look too similar to each other.

there’s tons of houses that have chimneys but the fireplaces have been filled in, so it’s actually realistic to have a chimney without a fireplace. the house i grew up in just had a huge weird column where the fireplace used to be
simsies vids always come out at night for me due to time zones, i normally watch them in the morning buuut i couldn't resist😂😭

For real I’m doing a legacy challenge and I keep running out of money but currently my house is worth 50,000 and I’m no where near done (I still need 1 more bedroom and dining room)
i think it comes down to clutter; i fill up every inch of my houses and add plants and clutter and decorations and art EVERYWHERE, whereas simsie leaves a wall or side table blank
By using the cheaper objects and checking the lot value throughout building? It’s pretty easy.

I love watching your builds... I am just curious... Have you ever designed a house where the outside of the house follows the function of the inside? So instead of building the shell first, you build the interior spaces and that determines the outer shape? I know you aren't much for modern/contemporary builds, but it can be a fun way challenge yourself to think inside out instead of outside in. Keep up the fun content!

Oh, I played Family Island a lot when I was nursing my newborn. It's adorable and I love the family interactions. I kinda miss it but I don't have too much time anymore and I try to minimize the things I do in my free time.
Also I loved to see your floorplan struggles, not in a mean way, just because it reassures me that im not the only one struggling with it sometimes.

Fitting 4 bedrooms into that size lot is really easy if you’re not used to having a massively spacious house! There’s always the option of a third floor too!

Why doesn't anyone use basements? Gallery houses almost never have basements, which are cheap and efficient, and perfect for hobbies and home gyms and mother-in-law suites. Every time I download a gallery house, I almost always add a basement, first thing.
I was in the middle of building and got the alarm saying you posted to the gallery and I checked it out, it's super cute

maybe it’s just that i also come from a big family, but 7 kids into three rooms sounds pretty reasonable! especially if the age range is big enough for the youngest to sleep in the parents’ room until the oldest moves out

The way we did it was my parents had their own room, three of the boys in our family shared the big room all in a bunkbed, my little sister littlest brother and I all slept in the medium room also in a bunkbed, and my older sister got the small room to herself since she was a senior at the time my little brother moved out of my parents room

Kayla, walls are like the SECOND thing you should do to a room. First you figure out what is, then maybe put one piece of furniture, then you choose the walls, THEN your furnish and decorate. Leaving the walls for last is going to result in you always using the same light tones and white.

Serious question, could the "many rooms small lot" problem be solved by adding a basement? Like you could put a family room/office, bedroom or two, etc? Basement bedroom would be really cool as a teen. Since I've never built in the Sims I don't know if it's like prohibitively expensive or only allowed on certain lots or something. Maybe Simsie just hates basements? Educate me pls

Actualy you can fit a double bed into a 3x4 room. You only need half a tile on either side of the bed for them to be able to get into the bed!
