Even 8 years since her passing you can occasionally smell her perfume walking in the hallway between the bedrooms and the den/kitchen/living room. I share your hatred. When I bought my apartment, I quickly realised that these carpet floors are like cat hair magnet, horrible to clean. Not to mention that somebody thought it was okay to put them in the living room. Try having friends over and never spill anything on it!
Same. You can never have a real clean house with carpet floors. Especially when you have kids, pets or even if you are just clumsy. One spill and it's sticky forever
I had carpet as a kid, then lived without for years. I really romanticized the idea of it. Then I actually got carpet again and realized I HATE it. Hardwood floors and a nice rug all day long
Same here, I hate them! Especially after I had a very bad experience. I moved in place where carpet floors were everywhere even in my university and they were so dirty 😖
i work in construction in mass and it’s a lot of snap together vinyl flooring that i put in and you’re so right about the funk tile i’ve done a few of those and they’re so fun! a good change from the grey that’s trending rn
I think a more realistic house would have missmatching stuff, speacilly woods! Since you initicialy just buy whatever is the best price and that >kinda< fits in, not completly... So a more realistic house would have, for example, a lot of dark toned wood, but not exactly the same coloured wood. Or even same colour and tone, but different pattern of wood 😂 (I love doing that on Sims 3!)
As someone who lives in Europe, it’s almost fascinating to see how American houses are built. Where I’m from, the dining room and kitchen are connected, and there’s a sliding door in the kitchen, and it’s tile on the floor, but not on the walls. And in all the bedrooms there’s wood floor, and the stairs are like floating, no under wall thingys, and the floor plan for the first and second floor are the EXACT same, besides the room next to mine not being a bedroom, but a laundry room😭
Carpeted floors is so strange to me. Here we use vinyl and wood for rooms and tiles for kitchens, hallways (because here entryway is in the hallway), bathrooms. Also, here you rarely see wallpaper. No fence?!? No way!! Here they are either from brick or really sharp on the upper side
Im in the uk, in EVERY home ive lived in ive had carpet in every room except bathrooms and kitchens. Ive often used rugs on top of carpet, for many years renting, carpets are usually thin and sometimes not great colours so a rug is great to cover a bad coloured carpet or if its a thin carpet to have a nice foot feel in bedrooms for example. I also like how in open plan homes rugs can define a living area. I bought my apartment 8 yrs ago and the whole apartment didn't have finished flooring except for the kichen and bathroom so i had to get that sorted before I moved in. Cost wise carpet made sense, from my rental life i knew I didn't want the cheapest thinnest carpet but flooring is expensive. So whilst id love real wood flooring, the leasehold stipulated a certain thickness for under flooring insulation with hard floors so I opted for a mid thickness carpet but i still have a rug in my living room and bedroom for extra squishiness, insulation and it helps define my space especially the combo living/dining room. Add rugs to carpet floors if u want to kayla!
When I use real floorplans for my sims builds, I use the windows to get the scale right! It’s a little trick, works every time! 1 window is 1 tile, and so on
I am a horrible builder, but after hours of work I was able to build my house in the sims (don’t ask me about the exterior or roof, because that’s a mess). You gave me confidence to build a house from scratch for the first time since sims 3! Lol.
My first time building was my irl childhood house and it was a hot mess lol, maybe I will try to build it again someday bc i got the lengths and sizes of things wrong lmao
This gives me a new series idea similar to the old fixer upper videos - people submit their own realistic houses (like first goes at building, or building irl places in the Sims as accurately as possible), and Simsie has to make them look good in the Sims without losing the vibes of the original build lmao
As someone who did courses in interior design it is an acceptable normal to put a rug on carpet. It's used for the same reasons: To define a space and to add more texture, pattern, and style to a room. I personally always have a rug (or side rugs) in my bedrooms in the real world. Don't feel wrong doing what is normal for you build wise!
The best way to go from a floorplan to sims w/o math or too much guessing is to first make the bathrooms. They are pretty much exactly 1:1 RL to Sims, so making bathrooms, and then the kitchen really helps complete the rest of the plan by just counting the size based on those.
I also wish we had half tile walls. It'd be so nice! Imagine all the things you could build with that little thing. And talking about garages, a lot of people convert that space into something else, (especially if they don't drive anymore or at all) so that it's not for cars but hobbies or storage. So using it that way in the Sims makes sense.
16:26 I’ve seen both. My mom have rugs over our carpet in the living room growing up and I have a rug I my office which is carpeted. I don’t think they are “necessary” functionally but they definitely make/made fur rooms look better. Hope that helps Kayla!! Love your builds
Yah! 16:16 ive always thought a rug on carpet was for design purposes more than anything, a lot of interior designers do that to break up rooms or make them feel more homey!
Great build! i do this quite often when building. I kinda find it fun, almost like a puzzle to recreate real floor plans. I used common measurements for things like appliances and windows to get a relative scale (it's not 100% acurate). Many stoves are 27"-30" and windows and doors tend to be close to 36". Many of these only take up one square in the game, so assume one square is 3'x3'. it works MOST of the time! Have fun Simming!
You're building the houses that I find in my neighborhood and youre talking about the kind of house my grandparents live in in Florida which is actually really helpful for building for me. Youre educational sims videos are really entertaining
As someone who lives in the UK where like 90% of our living space is carpet, we 100% put rugs on top xD Maybe not in bedrooms for the sense of cleaning but we do 100% use rugs in spaces like living room, office, maybe kids room if it's got space to not be stuck under the bed, ect.
That's a good thing. Build your way. Find your own build style. And for whatever reason Kayla makes builds more complicated than necessary. Most real houses are just a big rectangle. And for the life of me, I don't understand why she claims she struggles to make floor plans for those type of houses. The simplest way to set up a floor plan is to have one room essentially be the hub, from which most of the rooms come off of.
@lexvt3551 that's what porches, patios and or landscaping is for. What I do, typically is a square or rectangle with a garage on the side that doesn't fully line up, to act as the bump out, then a front porch, and you can still have a "box" not look like a box from the outside.
Rug on carpet (or any floor type really) helps retain heat in a room when it’s very cold, and is breathable when it’s hot out so it’s not making it too hot. I lived in a trailer house with no ac or heat for a year and we lived by rugs in every room, we had three in the kitchen alone
The house we lived in in NC when I was young had carpeting throughout the downstairs, we didn't have rugs in the bedrooms. Had 1 in the living room 100% only because it was a set with the furniture and if it didn't come with the couch, recliner, and tables we definitely wouldn't have had one there either. My extended family with carpeting never had rugs on the carpets either. At one point a SMALL rug like a couple feet was gotten for 1 bedroom to hide a burn in the carpet from an on lamp that was knocked over lol.
The ONLY time I've seen rugs on carpet is in like high traffic places. Like maybe under a coffee table to help try to prevent spills on the carpet. Maybe a rug under a desk chair as well. Otherwise they're pretty pointless.. the people claiming it "breaks up the room" and such obviously don't know how to do that with furniture.
About the rug on the carpet- we definitely do that😂 my parents do that because the carpet is a neutral color but my mom wants some kind of color/pattern but gets tired of it every 5-10 years soooo its easier and cheaper to change a rug than to redo the carpet. My husband and I do it because it sets spaces apart like our ‘living room’ space vs our ‘dining room’ space when they are in the same room on the same carpet in our apartment. Plus, extra cushion for bedrooms!
I agree with you, rug on carpet is totally normal! My current house is all hardwood but my parents' house has rug on carpet in the living room, family room, and all the bedrooms.
if you think about plumbing lines, the bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms are usually clustered since the piping is super expensive per foot. and usually you put the master bedroom away from the street.
Get what you're saying about the closets but you don't have to neccesarily build your own, we have that Get Together one. Granted I get that the Sims version would benefit more from desks but maybe at least one is that closet? Plus extra woohoo spot. Also a rug on carpet isn't weird, it's actually kind of a feng shui thing, it helps to create zones, sleeping, walking, etc. Helps to make a room feel more cozy and in this case, might help you/the sims sleep better
Yeah, having the suite on one side of the house/apartment and the other bedrooms in the other side of the house is quite realistic, it happens here in Europe aswell. The apartment where I live has that kind of layout; so does my bestie's apartemnt or my father's or my uncle's house on the other side of Europe. Honestly I love this layout because of the privacy and sound cancelation it brings.
When I build off of a floorplan, I usually scale it by counting the windows, counters, and bathroom fixtures, since each has a specific tile size. Once I get the basic idea out, I can make adjustments, like cutting out closets, shifting rooms, moving stairs, etc.
There are other sims yt creators and they used a roof piece to make a ramp type thing for the garage so it makes sense on how the car gets into the garage. That’s for if you want a foundation on your house.
Yeah Simsie has done the same thing before as well. The issue is that's good for show and nothing else. She has mentioned that she knows how to do it and everything but it leads to the house not really functioning well. It's why she doesn't ever use the TOOL mod as well. While it can let you build some ridiculously amazing things, it can also cause a lot of issues in gameplay.
Kayla, you should make an entire build of the things you hate in a build. Not objects you hate, but ways of building you hate. Ex: placement of windows, placements of landscape, way the house is layed out. Just a house to piss off people.
I love the realism builds! I have a list of movie/tv builds and plays I want to do, plus another list of real houses (mine, parents, etc). Right now I'm using other floor plans to practice.
I make my floorplans like that. And I don't have a problem with it. It's my go to home plans and I'm very happy with it and the outcome. U just got to use ur imagination to do it and it will turn out beautiful
Me back then in a german rental, had some carpet floors in an old but renovated building. But the carpet had some spots on it, even after deep cleaning. So, of course I did put a fancy rug on it and it made the room look so much better and more stylish. To me and people living in Germany it seems a normal thing to do, so don't worry dear. 💖
To help figure out scale one tile is about 2.5 to 3 square feet. I use that as my guide when building and can get fairly accurate floor plans in my game.
In context of garage door use, i primarily use the spray paintable garage doors from City Living, as they are what resemble garage doors the most, hope this helps🤗
Btw, if you ever want to have a little utility space in the Sims 4, I ALWAYS put the fire thing in there, that way its in the house somewhere, and it looks fairly realistic in that kind of space
It's really funny watching videos like this being a Brazilian because for us that is a 100% not a normal house. But in the end we are used to it. The Sims is a very American and most of the time we can't do "our" houses in the game. We have to learn how to copy yours because they fit better. 🤣
I was looking for a comment like this because I'm like this isn't a regular home but it IS for America lol Hoenstly it'd be interesting to see us all make our homes the way they are in our home countries and not try imitate Americans.
I have been doing this a lot and it has helped my builds so much. I don't use plan floor plans. Lots of them have bump outs and makes roofing a bit challenging, but it's been so fun
Rugs on carpet are decorative but also serve a protective function, especially if it's in a high traffic area or in a place that's susceptible to spills.
I need more of this type of content! Thank you! Any chance you can list some of the sites or keywords you use to come up with inspiration/floor plans??? I really find you explaining your thought process super helpful. Would totally love to have a series of this! You're fantastic, thank you for your content.
I am horrible at coming up with builds, so I always reference floorplans and layouts. I always put furniture down first to both ensure the room functions, and that everything fits before adding walls, decor and such. Backwards as heck I know, but works for me😂
this is so interesting. seeing how the styles differ from what i am used to from germany? when i build, theres always a prober entry way, often even a full hallway, theres a guest bathroom right next to the entry, living room and kitchen are always the first rooms to happen near the entry, maybe an office and the bedrooms are either always on the second level or all together in the back of the build lol.
I actually have more issues with shells then floor plans, I just do not understand how to make the shape make sense and not be super flat. When I have the overall shape the floor plan just works out so I mostly just do something similar to a sims TH-camr’s build shape but tweak it to my needs.
when i build a lot that includes a garage, i use the City Living mural garage door on the exterior and interior. it makes it seem more realistic depending on the style of the build.
One of the cooler things (well I guess that’s kind of a loose term) about living in Florida is seeing the extensive differences in house designs all over. In my area you go from 70s houses(my house for example) and only a few streets down you have the developments with McMansion-esque design. I’m sure that’s not only a florida thing, but it’s so common here that you don’t really think about it much. It really depends on when that area was built, so much aesthetic choice can change over just a few years.
I really like the simsies builds and then try it on my own and really disappoint myself and then i am mad about how can she do that so easily and i cant, thats UNFAIR. Btw love your videos simsie.
Fences also vary by region in the US! In California, there are fences EVERYWHERE - even in new builds. But in New York (where my husband grew up) there are very few residential fences! The more you know! 😄
In the UK it's totally normal to put a rug on carpet. a lot of houses are carpeted everywhere except the bathroom at kitchens. Like you say, it's about design. Carpets are plain so adding a patterned rug makes a room look better
I live in a cold country so our houses are carpeted, and rugs are really common on the carpeted floors! It makes the space look more cozy, and adds more warmth to the floors. Carpet with no rug looks weird to me tbh.
I always imagine a sims tile as being 2ft by 2ft. a sims bed is 3 tiles long, so 6 feet, which i think is pretty realistic. That's how i figure out the dimensions from a floor plan to a sims build. hopefully that helps some other people too!
I would love to see the florida build!! I love all of your videos, they always give me inspiration for my minecraft houses (I have sims, but prefer to build in minecraft honestly)
i am TRULY begging for more brick colors in the sims. also ones that dont have the hellish industrial tag making my lot all smoggy. there are sooooo many sweet little suburban brick houses cottagey. i need brown bricks, creamy beige yellow muted orange etc. white washed red ones so they look pink. bricks that are all different colors so they have the look of jewel tones. stone and brick features on houses are SOO gorgeous IRL and the sims 4 is lacking
@@fund4 it’s a thing a lot of developers do because it make plumbing IRL easier and less complicated. Personally. I like an open counter then maybe a sink or stove depending on layout!

I love how she just forgot about the closets from get together.
And the city living storage doors that work as garage doors lol
I haven't watched you in ages but now I'm coming back to the sims and your videos always make me laugh
❤❤❤ love it
When I use real floorplans for my sims builds, I use the windows to get the scale right!
Lol.
you've done amazing sweetie!
My first time building was my irl childhood house and it was a hot mess lol, maybe I will try to build it again someday bc i got the lengths and sizes of things wrong lmao
This gives me a new series idea similar to the old fixer upper videos - people submit their own realistic houses (like first goes at building, or building irl places in the Sims as accurately as possible), and Simsie has to make them look good in the Sims without losing the vibes of the original build lmao
with apartments coming out i am kinda tempted to recreate a better version of university dorms
As a preteen I had 3 rugs I absolutely loved! And they were on carpet :) it was my favorite thing about my room lol
Master bedrooms being separate from the rest is certainly a bonus. Speaking as a kid whose room was next to their parents'...
Love your builds
also if you’re renting it can protect the carpeted floors underneath!!
You should try building “normal houses” from other countries. I think it would be a interesting content and brings visibility to other cultures ☺️
it's totally realistic to put a rug on carpet. breaks up the monotony of the floor space and is extra nice if it has a different texture to the carpet
My actual house is just a big square with a smallll bump out for the dining room. As a simmer it makes me cry every time
I felt that haha
I feel you. Mine is a literal square😭😭
I live in a 1980s semi split in the US and it is impossible to make a playable version of my house that doesn't look weird. 😢
Same tbh
Saaaame, we have a back garage though
Have fun Simming!
sometimes im so glad you live in florida cause its so funny when you describe my entire house, neighborhood down to to the FLOORING
😂😂😂 funny
please post the florida house build - it would be so iconic
yes pls!
I search house architecture sites for Sims build inspiration. It’s been great practice for different styles!
oh thats so cool!
Once I started using real floor plans as inspo, my builds got cute af
You're building the houses that I find in my neighborhood and youre talking about the kind of house my grandparents live in in Florida which is actually really helpful for building for me. Youre educational sims videos are really entertaining
As someone who lives in the UK where like 90% of our living space is carpet, we 100% put rugs on top xD Maybe not in bedrooms for the sense of cleaning but we do 100% use rugs in spaces like living room, office, maybe kids room if it's got space to not be stuck under the bed, ect.
rn im using this house for my family and i love it!
Love that the house follows a real floorplan. Will be so efficient for gameplay. Nice house Kayla.
Barely play sims during school semesters but watching Simsie is always routine I can’t complete my day without her much love ❤❤
love your videos!! they always brighten up my day
My brain doesn’t work the way Kayla’s does when it comes to building 😂
same 😂
That's a good thing.
@@andrewmoeller1987 i also find it hard to make floorpans out of a rectangle. if theres bump outs in the house i find it sooo much easier
@@andrewmoeller1987 I think a big rectangle in the Sims would look horrible from the outside with no accents or bump outs
I actually love simple realistic sims builds so much!
There are other sims yt creators and they used a roof piece to make a ramp type thing for the garage so it makes sense on how the car gets into the garage. That’s for if you want a foundation on your house.
Creators I saw it from are Caryn and Connie
Yeah Simsie has done the same thing before as well. The issue is that's good for show and nothing else. She has mentioned that she knows how to do it and everything but it leads to the house not really functioning well. It's why she doesn't ever use the TOOL mod as well. While it can let you build some ridiculously amazing things, it can also cause a lot of issues in gameplay.
Lilsimsie is so awesome! She's so good at building!
She is like the most relatable simmer ever.. Of course others may not agree but personally I think she’s amazing.. ❤
so many simmers are!
omg so true, she is just so true and relateable and im like when im watching her im like omg yes so me like so i agree
I know...
I was looking for a comment like this because I'm like this isn't a regular home but it IS for America lol
Hoenstly it'd be interesting to see us all make our homes the way they are in our home countries and not try imitate Americans.
@@romysv there are some Brazilian TH-camrs that try it, but it's really difficult and it's never the same. 😅
I have been doing this a lot and it has helped my builds so much. I don't use plan floor plans. Lots of them have bump outs and makes roofing a bit challenging, but it's been so fun
You should do a review series like, "fixmylotlilsimsie" trend where everyone that can't make their lots not look"off" can submit them to you🤣
Rugs on carpet are decorative but also serve a protective function, especially if it's in a high traffic area or in a place that's susceptible to spills.
I need more of this type of content! Thank you! Any chance you can list some of the sites or keywords you use to come up with inspiration/floor plans??? I really find you explaining your thought process super helpful. Would totally love to have a series of this! You're fantastic, thank you for your content.
Take the dimensions, round up then device by 2.5. It’s not exact by any means. But it’s very very close. And can be easier than eyeballing!!
I’m great at floor plans, I think because I spend so much time on Zillow. It’s figuring out the shell and landscaping that are hard for me.
these are always my fav types of builds to do 😭
also i wanna thank you for always giving tips 😭 it helps sm 🙏🏻
I am horrible at coming up with builds, so I always reference floorplans and layouts. I always put furniture down first to both ensure the room functions, and that everything fits before adding walls, decor and such.
Backwards as heck I know, but works for me😂
this is so interesting. seeing how the styles differ from what i am used to from germany?
when i build, theres always a prober entry way, often even a full hallway, theres a guest bathroom right next to the entry, living room and kitchen are always the first rooms to happen near the entry, maybe an office and the bedrooms are either always on the second level or all together in the back of the build lol.
Ahhh i saw this house on the gallery and couldnt wait for the video to come out 💞
I actually have more issues with shells then floor plans, I just do not understand how to make the shape make sense and not be super flat.
HOA's are also a nightmare if you wanna paint your house, can't forget those bastards
I really like the simsies builds and then try it on my own and really disappoint myself and then i am mad about how can she do that so easily and i cant, thats UNFAIR. Btw love your videos simsie.
Your designs are brilliant. I'm learning so much for my own builds ❤
Fences also vary by region in the US! In California, there are fences EVERYWHERE - even in new builds. But in New York (where my husband grew up) there are very few residential fences! The more you know! 😄
I always in reality have rugs on carpet, it helps make the room look more interesting and helps protect the carpet from stains
One thing that we have in my house that I’ve never thought of putting in my sims builds is trash bins in the bedrooms and bathrooms
In the UK it's totally normal to put a rug on carpet. a lot of houses are carpeted everywhere except the bathroom at kitchens. Like you say, it's about design. Carpets are plain so adding a patterned rug makes a room look better
the fact that last night i was thinking about how much i wanted to see a video like this and today you do just that
I live in a cold country so our houses are carpeted, and rugs are really common on the carpeted floors! It makes the space look more cozy, and adds more warmth to the floors. Carpet with no rug looks weird to me tbh.
This build is giving major sims 3 vibes. Like I swear the floor plan is very simular to one of the starter homes floor plans 👀
IRL I put rugs on carpets sometimes. I usually do it as a decorating option and to define the area. I do it in sims all the time.
I just want to say, that you're always making my day better ❤
I like to use the City Living Mural garage door. You can use one on the inside [Visible Roller on top] and one on the outside [No top Roller]
Maybe a "realistic" Building series :) like buildings from all over the world in Sims :)
i am TRULY begging for more brick colors in the sims. also ones that dont have the hellish industrial tag making my lot all smoggy. there are sooooo many sweet little suburban brick houses cottagey. i need brown bricks, creamy beige yellow muted orange etc. white washed red ones so they look pink. bricks that are all different colors so they have the look of jewel tones. stone and brick features on houses are SOO gorgeous IRL and the sims 4 is lacking
12:36 they will have all of the plumbing on the floor plan as well. So if you get stuck on deciding where to put things. That can help.
I don't get why the fridge should go near the sink. Is this a thing? 😅
@@fund4 it’s a thing a lot of developers do because it make plumbing IRL easier and less complicated. Personally. I like an open counter then maybe a sink or stove depending on layout!
