    This was very helpful so thank you! I took my CBT on an automatic and today I’m going out on my Honda cb125f for the first time, luckily my dad will be with me and has a lot of bike experience but I’m still nervous as I’m really small😂

      No problem at all. Using a geared bike on a cbt is difficult if you haven't tried before, a lot to take in. Two of my cbt's were done on automatics. Good luck on your future ride outs Thanks

    honda cb125f was my first bike and I had no experience whatsoever.
    I was looking for a video like this to get some ideas on clutching, braking, etc before buying one but didn't found one.
    I already learned to drive but I just hoped I found this video sooner. :)
    great job explaining the basics and thanks for sharing for people who really have no clue like I did and needs some insights.

    The most useful and relevant vid on TH-cam I’ve found on this topic, thanks 👍 Similar story, CBT on 50cc scooter spring ‘19, bought a brand new sh125 scooter a year ago, now chomping at the bit for the DAS. A question though... I’ve been driving for over thirty years, will this be a help or be a hindrance - ie I get the concept of clutch bite and rev matching, but am a stranger to a sequential gearbox?

    • @BigBenMotoVlogsUK
      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dennis Buckley Thank you so much, glad it helped. I think it will help a lot driving previously. I’m the other way around, had my full bike licence before I took my driving lessons. I had plenty of road sense, clutch bite etc so it helps so much. The motorcycle gears is so simple compared to a car gears, it’s just neutral can be a bit of pain due to it being inbetween first and second but you will get use it soon enough

    Hey Ben. ty for the tutorial!
    I've got my CBT in two days time, so swatting up ;D
    I will be buying the CB125f. The MT and the duke were sooooo tempting. Lots of self restraint needed not to splash the cash. If I like the riding experience and commute to work, i will hopefully trade up to a speed triple. That way i can amuse myself on weekends seeing the sites and buzzing round the lovely English countryside.
    Thats if it doesn't get nicked or i kill myself... so baby steps first and keep the dreams for night time.
    Keep posting! Any more advice on security would be welcome too.
    thanks

      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem dude and good luck! Would love a test ride of a speed triple one day :D Its on my list with umpteen different bikes haha
      Security wise, i did make a video on security a while back. Around my area, i don't have the problem like what's going on in London with even the best security it still could be nicked. I just try to use my head a little and think like the person that would be nicking it (if that makes sense) :P

      Yee har.. just got back from my CBT. Was great fun. Glad I didn't chicken out and just do it on a automatic scooter. The practice was well needed.
      There were a few lol moments during it. The other guy doing his CBT constantly flew over junctions and giveway signs, with not so much as a glance left or right. Absolutely mental. I think he must play russian roulette in his free time to relax. The instructor was so chilled up until then. Then he chewed him out with style. No protective gear works against that kind of onslaught.
      His solution to not looking left and right was to buy better health insurance. Lets hope I don't see him again ;/
      I heed your advice on big cities having their theft problems so i will do as much as i can to protect it. So far I have a 2m and 1.5m 14mm Oxford hardened steel chain. Kryptonite Ney York 'U' lock, JDC disk lock. Just thinking about getting a tracker now and that should about do it. Messing with a brand new bikes electrics does freak me out a little. But hopefully worth it for a little more peace of mind.
      Checking out your other vids now ^^

      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for replying late. Glad you enjoyed it, its great experience! Oh god, seen a few people like that and just try to get far away as possible from them. Not sure about security in big cities, from what i have seen even the best security your bike could still possibly get nicked. Probably best to speak to someone who does.
      I was looking a trackers a while back from a company called "BikeTrac", seemed to be recommended in the bike community and a lot of people have had their bikes recovered from having that system.

    I have just bought my first geared bike, Honda CB125F after using a Honda Vision 110 scooter for 5yrs. I have problems when coming to a stop at traffic lights or coming up to a corner. I switch into first gear, but sometimes it sticks if I have been in any of the higher gears on the approach, so when I stop I can't get it to go back into first? Also, when I move off, I struggle to move quickly from first to second etc as I end up revving too much? Any advice would be gratefully appreciated?

    • @BigBenMotoVlogsUK
      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glenn Sounds like a problem with the gear shifter/linkage, may need to be adjusted. That would be the best case scenario, otherwise it may be a gear box issues. How old is it?

    • @glenng
      @glenng 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BigBenMotoVlogsUK I bought it from a girl who hasn't used it much. She's had it since 2016 and it only has approx. 2300 miles on the clock and only passed its MOT last month, so it's in good condition. I think it must be something I'm doing wrong. Also, according to one of the CBT videos I watched, using the front brake on corners is not good??

    • @BigBenMotoVlogsUK
      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glenn That’s not many miles for the bikes age so it shouldn’t be a part issue. With some bikes you have to kick down quite hard to go from 2nd, through neutral into 1st. Maybe a good idea to get the clutch adjusted. It’s not always best to brake on a corner at all, best to slow down before the corner to the speed you need. Any braking can disrupt the balance but if needed use the back brake. Front brake can lock up the front when turning 👍

    • @glenng
      @glenng 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BigBenMotoVlogsUK Thanks Ben. I guess I need to get accustomed to using the back brake then. After riding a scooter for so long I got into the habit of applying the front brake only.

  • @themessage4103
    @themessage4103 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When you press the rear brake and the clutch while applying the throttle do you also apply the front brakes and the gear selector at the same time?

    • @BigBenMotoVlogsUK
      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I cannot think of a situation that you would need to apply all of those at the same time. Do you mean slow control? as in that situation, you would apply the rear brake slightly, feather the clutch and apply a bit of throttle. You wouldn't need to do anything with the front brakes or the gear selector. If there is another situation you are thinking of, let me know thanks

    Hi Ben, I’m looking into getting my CBT due to me starting a job 11 miles away from myself ,
    Which would you recommend to start off with, A rev and go 50cc or a geared 125cc,
    And how long did it take you to get used to the gears also which did you get your CBT cert on a automatic or manual ?
    Sorry for all the questions

    • @BigBenMotoVlogsUK
      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don’t worry about all the questions 😜
      If you wanted to go for a scooter then skip the 50cc all together, go straight for a 125cc. 50cc are slow and barely any difference in insurance. A geared 125 will take a bit more time to get use to, took me a few days but definitely worth it in the end.
      You can do you cbt’s on a auto and then jump on a manual, there is no restriction. Only when you do your full licence it matters.

      Yeh another welshy :D Good choice with the mt! I know a lot of people who don't like doing uturns and i love doing them now :P I may do a video on them, like a part two maybe. Tips with u turns ... feather your clutch went using your throttle, don't be afraid of higher revs in the uturn, they keep you upright. Look were you want to end up and not where you are going (it makes sense when you get use to it haha) and don't go to fast or too slow. With turning into junctions, you may just have to lean into the turn at bit more, get some weight over. Good luck

      You probably do counter steering without even noticing, same here when i think about it, i can't do it or it feels weird lol
      When ever you have a bike and someone asks about it, you normally get the same sorta questions like "How much is it?", "whats it top speed?", "Can you wheelie it?", it gets on my nerves a bit but people ask stupid questions. I haven't been asked about getting my knee down, i have scraped my foot quite a few times haha but on a scooter, no, as you would probably scrape a fairing before a knee :P

    Is it possible to teach yourself to ride? Gears and all that. Buying a bike next week hoping I can teach myself....

      I did yes. By watching youtube videos and practicing by imagining! All my cbts prior to owning a geared bike have been taken on scooters/mopeds. Its simple, just take your time and find a car park and practice practice practice :D

      BigBenMotoVlogs one last question. How easy is a bike to park on a hill? That's another obstacle I face.

      Not to bad. Leave it in gear and park side ways. That's the way i do it when have to
