    Seriously, to anyone worried about their cbt, as long as your head is screwed on and you know your road rules ect, you won't have a problem, the instructors won't put you up to anything you can't do, if you're unsure about anything just ask, don't forget they are riders too, they want you to pass :)

    • @MrRiingo
      @MrRiingo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah, I'd never ever ridden a bike before, but did my CBT recently, on a manual bike in the rain, it was fairly easy, I made some mistakes but still managed to get my CBT. It's pretty hard to not get your certificate i think.

    I absolutely agree with always wearing gear. I was 15 and riding my moped here in Finland and ended up coming off when a car sideswiped my rear wheel. I was wearing 3 layers on my top and some thick trousers and going only 30km/h, I ended up skidding over 5m on the asphalt. Thankfully it was brand new and smooth, so my leg didn't suffer but I ended up with a very large cut on my elbow through 3 layers of clothing (long shirt, jumper, jacket and a paper thin windbreaker). That just goes to show that coming off even at low speed can be extremely bad. ALWAYS WEAR GEAR

      Definitely. When I did my CBT I was nervous and such, but after a while it felt like I was sort of on holiday and at one point I forgot that I paid £100 for it. Probably won't be the same the next time I do a CBT but heyho.

      Nah, the DAS on a 600 + cc is more fun. (except on exam days). When you've done the CBT 4 times it is boring, like a phd student going back to year 7 primary school.

    I had never rode a bike/scooter and did my CBT on a scooter....afterwards I purchased a scooter and rode it around until I realised I needed something with abit more speed...believe it or not I actually learned myself how to do gears/ride a motorcycle through TH-cam..

  • @CRDFRider
    @CRDFRider 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I started my CBT on an automatic, never even sat on a bike before, but firstly to just get an idea of the roads and riding in general, after awhile I felt more comfortable to try and get on a manual, again, never been on a manual bike before, but sold my automatic and bought the MSX, so basically pushed myself right into it... watched some TH-cam videos about the whole biting points and changing gears and so on, managed to ride to the nearer car park at night and practised on my own there for a bit, and now i'm really comfortable on a manual and hoping to get my full test done within these 2 years as i've just redone my CBT again :-)

      Alan Austin The type and size of bike that you will be permitted to ride after completing the CBT will depend on your age.
      Age Bike
      16 years old 50cc moped only
      17+ years old Any 125cc motorcycle
      The certificate allows you to ride either automatic or manual machines, regardless of the type of bike that you used on your training.

  • @alibaba02121996

    Don't cover your front brake as if you brake without the throttle fully shut, which wouldn't happen if you had to shut off the throttle before braking (ie when you're not covering front brake), you reduce the effectiveness of your braking as your engine is still trying to accelerate.

    I passed my cbt yesterday and the slow control stuff you've posted and the tips for figure of 8 and u turning made those sections of the day an absolute breeze, so thank you so much!
    I have a pretty rudimentary question about breaking though. When I'm bringing the bike down in speed to either stop, approach a roundabout, or turn off to a new road I think I am I meant to (ignoring mirror, signal, lifesaver, position etc) 1) close the throttle, 2) begin breaking using the front then rear brake 3) shift into first and keep the clutch in until I can see if I'm stopping or going 4) carry on or stop. Is that right? Which break should I be applying first? I tended to favour feathering the rear break on my cbt to reduce my speed (with engine breaking) because I totally messed up on my ride and basically dropped the bike at low speed, turning off a major to minor road on a right turn and although I recovered composure and finished the ride well, it did scare me and made me very hesitant to use the front break.
    Edit - actually, watching this again I think I messed up my engine breaking and then when the bike lurched/skidded, I applied the front way too hard.

    Great guide mate!
    Regarding the engine braking: I ride a 2004 Honda Varadero 125, which has a V2, and that bike has MASSIVE engine braking! I don't even need to use my brakes at all most of the time. That's convenient, as you don't wear out your brake pads as much, and it is actually good fun. For whatever reason, but I love having the most control over my bike :D 125's are awesome when it comes to that!

  • @SixmiffedyUkvlog
    @SixmiffedyUkvlog 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice video man, I remember when I started the hardest thing to get in my head was the order in what you do things when you're changing gear. But once you get it, you never forget it until it becomes second nature, like everything.
    The instructors will sort you out, they want you to pass after all, if you get an instructor that doesn't want to answer questions they you've got a bad one unfortunately, but ask everything you want and they should be happy to help.
    What would you say about Kevlar Jeans, recommended if someone wants them or not?

    Wow, Spicy. This vid has got to be one of the best ever on "Learning to Ride" Clear, concise and practical. Hope you continue the "Series". Back "in the day" (UK) I, bought a ¨bike from the shop - "Have you ridden before?" was asked. If answer was no -"Well jump on back - once round the block to show the controls" and away you went.

    Just done my CBT, never drove a car so was literally new to it all, was with 2 ladies who had ridden previously.....was told I would be on a 50cc automatic and I'd need to come back to learn manual. I got use to most things, (roundabouts I need to not stop n let every Tom, Dick n Harry pass)

    Not all indicators have click to clear. Used to have a 50cc that had a clunky switch that had three positions. Now have an 800cc BMW that doesn't have it either! Has a tiny lever that again has three positions but instead at different angles. Sure you probably know that Spicy, but just in case any confused learners see this.

    Great tutorial mate...
    clear and with examples, spot on.
    There's a couple of questions i have tho...
    is breaking on a cruiser 125 is still same even tho the weight distribution is a bit different?
    And secondly is engine breaking as effective when you're going down a steeper hill coming to junction let's say?
    Any response is appreciated.. Thanks and ride safe!

    So if im going from 1-2-3-4-5, do I have to do the whole set off slowly with the clutch thing like in first or can you let it out quicker?
    Also when engine breaking do you use any throttle?

    I am so nervous to do my cbt, I keep watching this video over and over haha, I hope I don't mess up and look stupid, I am not overly polished in the brain department

      It's perfectly normal to be nervous, don't sweat it. Just be calm and listen to your instructor, and don't be scared to ask question! You are paying them after all.

    Don't cover your front brake as if you brake without the throttle fully shut, which wouldn't happen if you had to shut off the throttle before braking (ie when you're not covering front brake), you reduce the effectiveness of your braking as your engine is still trying to accelerate.

    I tested for endorsement here in the states when I was 18. I have made sure to renew it every chance I get. I went years without riding, but was still endorsed. I was cast as a demon biker in a film, and beings I still had my endorsement, they let me do my own riding. Anyway, awesome and informative video. Always stay certified people.

    Cheers bud. Been riding an automatic 50cc moped and now going to a geared 125cc bike... strange how the law works. I had no idea how to ride a geared bike.

  • @marklee6105
    @marklee6105 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Spicy you should make a petition to change the bike laws so I don't have to get a 125cc when 17 although people can get any car at 17 I think it's unfair

    • @Xenro66
      @Xenro66 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that at 17, you should be allowed to at least get a 250, just so you can actually keep up with motorway-speed traffic, and have enough power to get out of dangerous situations.
      Even if you got a full A1 licence, your max speed is still only going to be ~70, where as a normal car can reach 90+

    • @marklee6105
      @marklee6105 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Xenro66 I Agree and a motorcycle is more dangerous for the rider but is safer for others but a car could do a lot more damage to its surroundings. It doesn't make sense if its to keep people safe why can a car go faster when its bigger and could run over loads of people! And they dont understand why bikes need stronger engines to get out of situations like tail gates but if your on a 125cc your fucked!

    • @Xenro66
      @Xenro66 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mark Lee Exactly! This is why I think the UK law is just stupid, and is doing more harm than good... Especially when 1 tonne metal boxes travelling at speed and close proximity are involved :/

    • @benjacks2096
      @benjacks2096 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree with all this, that a 17yro just passed test can go and get an Audi capable of well over 100mph, with a tonne or so of metal round him, which could very easily kill a rider/driver, and 17yro on 125s are even limited to restricted versions of 14.6bhp, why don't they restrict peds at 16 to 40mph, at 17 a 250cc and etc etc as that would work a lot better, and a CBT should last til you could do your A2?

    Now with the indicators the is a gadget called Smart Turn System. It will cancel your indicators of the Same people that made the Smart Brake Module.
