This is me 100% I have just started riding, I’ve never driven a stick shift in my life and I’m trying to learn but right now I am pretty much stuck in first just going up and down my street to practice turning and things like that. But I’m gonna need to go from 1st to 2nd very soon
I did not finished the video yet but I appreciate how clearly he speaks and explains. English is not my native language but this guy's speech is flawless
I did my CBT a month ago and didn’t pass because the instructor wasn’t happy with my gear shifting/ clutch control. But honestly as an instructor I wasn’t happy with how little help and instruction he provided to me as a first time rider (who doesn’t drive a car either). I feel like this 15 min video was more helpful than the 4 hour course I spent that day 🙄😂🤙🏻
I feel that! I went to my CBT a little over a month ago and pretty much as soon as i got the bike moving i dropped it on my foot! Was just starting to go round in circles to learn to control speed using the clutch, had too much speed and didn't turn enough to make the corner and was heading for the fence. So i braked without straightening the wheel. It wasn't the instructors fault, and i knew my mistake as soon as i did it. Gear shifting foot straight under the fuel tank. thankfully i had decent boots on, i didn't break any bones and the boot constrained it so it didn't swell (until i got home and took it off anyway). Didn't realize how badly i fucked my foot up so i continued on with CBT, but it definitely effected my learning a fuck ton. As i wasn't getting it, i was getting frustrated and tired which then made it worse. Im glad my instructor was super nice and offered to come in another day for me to give the last little bit of time i needed. Which was great because i couldn't walk properly for a good few days. Finally passed after that! ...then immediately went on holiday for 3 weeks so I'm watching this as a refresher before i get home to my bike
I completely understand, luckily my course was cancelled due to ice and rescheduled so I did get a chance to do the first day - sit on the bike, get it going, and kind of get a feel for the clutch and friction zone and neutral to 1st, thank you for pointing out what you do to make it stall and not just that it does lol - now I've got more time to watch videos like this. My instructor was very kind but extremely hands off and considering everybody else in the class has been riding dirty for years I had hoped he would have a little more attention to give. Lol it's okay though, I do wish I had access to a bike to practice beforehand. Decided not to buy one before I got a feel to see if I was comfortable (I also dropped the bike on myself oops! Oops I am a pretty small person but makes for some extra respect/caution for the processes)
I failed my CBT (UK) a week and a half ago due to the same reason, but I’m 32 with 13 years road experience. It was just the clutch control that was the issue, I felt the instructor was a bit harsh on me… but I have another one booked for this Saturday. Also I have a Yamaha MT125 pending collection from dealer, I want to be able to pass my CBT before so I can legally ride the bike home myself
They don't cancel MSF courses cause bad weather. Did ours in extreme wind gust, rain, then extreme heat. First time was snowing, I ended up dropping the course due to work conflict.
I really appreciate you showing what the foot break and foot shifting looks like. No one in my family or friends ride motorcycles but I want to. A lot of the motorcycle language is completely foreign to me like clutch, throttle, torque etc are extremely unfamiliar words but this video and many others are so helpful I’m so thankful you help people like me that don’t have any mentors. I have a drivers license already but I feel more connected to motorcycles it’s also a great skill to have. Thank you very much for the videos.

basic rider courses assumes everyone has the same brain capacity. If you're able to maintain throttle with your right hand and keep two fingers covering the brakes, you will become a safer rider because you're always prepared to engage the brakes "just in case"

Really well done video! I used to ride a motorcycle 20 years ago and just now want to get back into it. So this is a great refresher course, thank you!
Rear brake on my bike gets used first before, I ever use front brake. The only time I use front brake is to hold bike at a stop. My bike is always in gear always ready to roll at a stop never in neutral. I put both feet down at a stop never have 1 down. The clutch is amazing tool use it to pull power before stopping, apply rear brake you'll never risk a high side. Release cluth enough to get bike to friction zone use front brake to hold. Front brake at low speed is great way to dump your bike.
About 23 years ago, I taught myself to drive my first manual transmission car. I hope I can do the same with my first bike, which may be a Honda CB500x or a Yamaha MT-03.
Thanks after 30 years got a bike again, just writing before re watching, In Canada as well are those courses offered glad I took one 30 years ago before I drove my first m-cycle, the sites you see on a bike are amazing, kinda sucks but to stay alive those sights can only receive a head turn glance as life is so important and getting where you want to go is about getting there not about not ever going anywhere again so you might see a beautiful sight a second longer than a passing glance... Please
great video man. A lot of other videos teaching this made me anxious to ride a bike and feel like I couldn't do it but you explained it all very thoroughly and calmly and made it seem doable and understandable! Thank you!
For someone who never used a clutch before, I think it's a good idea to crank up the idle enough to take off without stalling and even shift into second. That way they can get used to how the clutch works with a few practice runs before cracking the throttle on their new Hayabusa.
I HIGHLY recommend learning to drive a stick shift car before getting on a motorcycle. That cuts down on what you have to learn by half, and it is a lot easier stalling in a four wheeled car in an empty parking lot. It is a lot to take in on a motorcycle if you have to learn how to downshift to not stall, etc, etc. And taking a bike with gears up and down a hill and feeling how the gears work will prep you before the car. And second gear does not carry you to 70 mph on beginner bikes. More like 30. He was showing off.
Thank you for tHis! I did my cbt, started on a motorbike and the rest of the people were so far ahead of me, and the instructor was being a bit too harsh, I was on the verge of tears because I was embarrassed and ashamed of myself, tbh I was getting it very slowly, but I felt it wasn’t explained enough to me, half way through, the guy said do an automatic scooter and you’ll pass. So I did my test on a scooter and passed, so I think it’s mainly the gears and stuff but yeah, going for some lessons this week with a different instructor at a new place that’s apparently really nice, and they’re only 1 hour lessons which I find good cause I can get overwhelmed 😊
Thank u sir ur channel is underated never in other youtuber guide talk about shifting gear when turning and how to apply brake a proper way for beginner.
I love the way you explain things. I think you should become a qualified riding instructor! I already drive a manual car, so the concept of changing gears and using the clutch is 2nd nature to me. 🚙 🏍
@@lukedaniels2340 As new riders, they don't want you to concentrate on too many things at once. However, for faster reaction times covering the brakes with 2 fingers is safer.
Nice tutorial vlog on how to drive a motorcycle for the beginners like me.thanks Petro heads nice and clear instructions . I'm beginning to learn how to drive safely.Thank you
90% using front brake is I guess wrong and bad suggestion, 70% rear brake and 30%front brake is much better, one must know and be aware about this if you dont want to get kicked by the front brake. Recommended used rear brake more, use front brake when uphill. I meet alot of fall because of front brake, but the rear brake helps me alot. Please note this, very important!
Excellent tutor ...very clear ... Since I learned to drive Manual Cars I see the same concept applies.....so am gonna learn this now.....never late to try something new in life ....new challenge....
Thankyou so much. Very clear and concise. Gonna start learning to ride in just over a month. Been driving for years, but wanted to do something new and fun🇦🇺
So wait, is this not like the clutch in a manual transmission car? Riding the clutch is so bad in a car, but here it seems totally fine to keep holding down on the clutch.

Just bought a 2018 CBR 500R can’t wait to learn to ride when the season breaks
11:00 i was told to take fingers off front brake
No keep front brakes covered with two fingers at all times.
That was great!
The best tutorial for beginners I've seen.
Glad it was helpful!
I love the way you explain things. I think you should become a qualified riding instructor!
I already drive a manual car, so the concept of changing gears and using the clutch is 2nd nature to me. 🚙 🏍
Thank you! I will continue to make more videos so please stay tuned 👍
Watching from Kenya and I just subscribed 👍Thank you for explaining all of that so well💯. This is exactly the kind of video I wanted. Be blessed 🙏
This video was very well explained and helpful! Thank you
on manual cars you can do an emergancy break, is that the same on bikes?
In the UK we are taught to keep our right hand from covering the brakes.
Brakes are on the right hand.
@@PetroHead sorry updated 😂😂
@@lukedaniels2340 As new riders, they don't want you to concentrate on too many things at once. However, for faster reaction times covering the brakes with 2 fingers is safer.
Thank you for sharing, it’s rather thorough for a beginner already. I’m sure there’s more to it and I shall look forward to ur next video. 😊
Nice tutorial vlog on how to drive a motorcycle for the beginners like me.thanks Petro heads nice and clear instructions . I'm beginning to learn how to drive safely.Thank you
You're welcome!
Awesome tutorial... thank you ... so ready to grab me one coming soon... wish me luck😅
Nice im a scooter guy planning to get big bike very informative
Thankyou bud, as a beginner you helped me heaps
This is a great video and you do a great job explaining everything in detail
90% using front brake is I guess wrong and bad suggestion, 70% rear brake and 30%front brake is much better, one must know and be aware about this if you dont want to get kicked by the front brake.
Recommended used rear brake more, use front brake when uphill.
I meet alot of fall because of front brake, but the rear brake helps me alot.
Please note this, very important!
Anyone who uses 70% rear brakes is an IDIOT and should not be riding a motorcycle. Later!
@@PetroHead lmaooo 😭😭😭💀💀💀💀
@@NagagraphyTV he's not wrong, anyone who has ever rode a couple of miles on their motorcycle, they know front brakes are the most imp
@@PetroHead in a more recent video you said 70 and 30. so did you change your mind? i'm new to this lol
70 / 30 is how much stopping power you have but most of the time, you will use the front brakes.
Clear explantion. Thankyou very much
you have calmed my mind abit thank you. Going for a CBT at the end of the month!
Step 3, hold in clutch or put in neutral?
I'm seriously considering one but been wondering how different is it from a four wheeler with switching gears lol
Wow this is amazing for starters very impressive and eye catching
Thank you! Cheers!
Been riding again for a few months... some great content here. :)
I like your bike!
Thanks and enjoy 😉
Amazing tutorial. And a beautiful bike.
good video and very well explained .
Excellent tutor ...very clear ... Since I learned to drive Manual Cars I see the same concept applies.....so am gonna learn this now.....never late to try something new in life ....new challenge....
You make me love the riders community, from allover the world.
8:45 - when you are rolling around the parking lot in first gear, are you using any throttle or is that simply the engine pulling you along at 8 mph?
As I mentioned, depending on your bikes engine CC and power, idle speed is anywhere between 6-12 mph.
This has been very helpful to me.
Keep it up
Me downshifting to second and speeding off an braking very hard causing the back tire to start drifting it was my first week and I am 16
Thanks for the basic tips of riding a motorcycle for beginners..
I already know how to ride but the sound of that 3pl cylinder hitting limiter is 💨
I am learning.. this helps a lot...i had dump the bike on panic..
Thanks a lot. You taught like a teacher. Godspeed.
You're welcome!
You're the best Teacher.. i respect you
