Today, I want to cover the health benefits of alcohol.
    The health benefits of alcohol:
    • ZERO
It turns out that any amount of alcohol can damage the brain and heart.
    Misconceptions about alcohol:
    • It’s heart-healthy
    • Abstinence from alcohol is a cause of heart disease
    • Women should have one drink a day
    • Men should have two drinks a day
A new study out of the University of Oxford was done from 2014-2020 and involved 25,378 people. They found that even small amounts of alcohol can have a negative effect on your brain and your heart.
But aren’t there antioxidants in wine? Yes. But, although there are antioxidants, the alcohol in the wine is still a problem.
An enzyme in the liver converts the alcohol into acetaldehyde, which is highly toxic and may cause major oxidation in the liver and other organs. There is also a lot of free radical damage that occurs when you have too much acetaldehyde.
This video is not meant to tell you not to drink. It’s meant to give you the truth about alcohol. You shouldn’t drink more alcohol because you think it has health benefits. But there are great substitutes for alcohol as well as things you can do to help counter the damage from drinking alcohol.
    What you could do:
    1. Drink kombucha tea as an alternative to alcohol
    2. Take kudzu root extract (to reduce cravings for alcohol)
    3. Take L-glutamine (to reduce cravings for alcohol)
    4. Take milk thistle before you drink (to counter the effects of alcohol)
Fasting is also very important, especially if you drink alcohol.

I just finished reading 'I am Ozzy Osbourne'. In 1984 Sharon tricked Ozzy into going to The Betty Ford Clinic by telling him it was a great resort in Palm Springs where they teach you to drink like a gentleman. He said to himself sounds like a dream vacation. I've been doing it all wrong. He imagined James Bond types lazing around the bar in smoking jackets learning how to drink properly. Instead, he was greeted by Betty Ford herself. It took him several attempts but now he's an advocate to not drink, smoke or do drugs.

For me as I have aged, I found I was consuming more alcohol and what developed was an addiction to carbs/sugar. I was diagnosed with pre diabetes and was insulin resistant. 10 months ago I went head on zero carb carnivore to eliminate this as well as several other conditions I had. I have watched most if not all of your videos so thanks again for your expertise and non judgmental approach.

I stopped drinking completely 22 years ago because alcohol makes my body hurt worse the next day. I suffer from osteoarthritis and any alcohol sends me into pain 10 fold. I find it impossible to live with my condition as it is and refused to even drink a sip because i know it only makes things worse. I guess my body knew more than my Doctor.

Dr. Berg brings some very good advice most of the time but sometimes he just makes me wonder if he is not a bit too overzealous with his keto thing. Again, Mediterranean diet has been proven year after year to be the most healthy diet and yet they don’t prohibit grains or fruits or wine. One thing Dr.Berg has gotten right is that yes we eat too much carbohydrates and processed foods.

My mum got her kids taken away from her because she's an alcoholic, she became almost insane when she got drunk. It's extremely difficult to quit once you get past a certain point. Supposedly she could die if she quit suddenly so she's being told to drink a small amount but after alcohol touches an alcoholics lips, they can't stop. I wasn't an alcoholic but I used to drink quite often as it helped with my anxiety, pretty sure it's the same reason as my mum but the effects of alcohol are only short term, it actually worsens anxiety long term. I used to jump to loud noises or sudden movements, felt like someone was standing on my chest all the time. I was also very stressed which is maybe the reason I developed a permanent skin condition called Seborrheic Dermatitis, there is no cure for it. Learn from my mothers mistake, don't abuse it or you could ruin your life like she did with hers.

I myself had issues with anxiety, depression and stress just from drinking once or twice a week like a lot of people do. Alcohol worsens anxiety or depression long-term as well as makes it harder to deal with stress. It messes with the chemicals in your brain and your stress hormones.

@@patches1483 I have been a vegetarian for 4 years and counting, so Im staying away from keto also because I metabolize differently. I ate cheese all these years excessive amounts and I feel this is what caused the fatty liver. Cheese everyday not once, not twice, like a lot of cheese everyday. Also I drank wine once a week but sometimes 2-3 bottles. I hurt my liver bad. I have heard keto is good, but I’m gonna stick to my guns for a year or two and eat healthy dark greens, less rice(I’m Armenian so we eat lots of rice) I’m gonna make Dr. Bergs wife’s famous bread now, and just need to fast as much as I can. These past two days I do feel hungry but I’m also keeping my mental state strong so I don’t fold. I need to drop weight it’s not easy but I need to do it for my wife. I lived alone for 5 years and overtime noticed that I started to drink more and more. I did it because it was an escape from the stress at work and loneliness after work (even though I could handle being by myself for a period of time). Eventually I realized I was drinking every weekend for about 1-2 years almost (wow, saying that feels unreal)! Many times I would wake up hangover and with racing heart, but I wouldn't pay attention to it because I knew why this was happening. I was always calm and optimistic in general, happy-go-lucky in a way. In April I had the same happen, woke up sort of hung over but with a racing heart, and got super scared, and had a panic attack, then 2 more in 2 days in a row. I have no idea why it suddenly happened, never had anything like that before. I had major anxiety and depression after that lasted for a few weeks, I was terrified! I didn't know what to think about for the future, and felt like I was no longer optimistic! I still get these bouts out of nowhere, and I just wish I could be back to my normal self again! Mind you, there has been a lot of work and personal life stress (including this stupid non-stop bombardment about the pandemic from everywhere and everyone)!
Did anyone ever get such drastic psychological changes, and if so, how did you get better again?

If you are allergic to plants in the asteracea order, be careful with Milk Thistle. I’m allergic to chrysanthemum, echinacea, daisies, and several others, if you have a known allergy, you might benefit from a patch test before ingesting it.
Thanks Dr. Berg, I’m almost 30 lighter than I was January 1… you and Dr. Ekberg have taught me a great deal. A dear friend of mine who has NAFLD, and a high A1C asked how I did it so, I shared some of your videos. August was his first normal A1C in years, and his BP is lower than it was in high school. He’s doing OMAD and finds it works really well for him. He said that the week before his quarterly doctor visits were full of dread, but not any more because HE knows how to control things these days. The doctor was quite impressed because his numbers were so stubborn. So thanks for giving me the knowledge to share, he’s a good person with young kids and I want to see him enjoy life. Oh, and my housemate has lost 27 pounds since the end of May. He’s over the moon.

Thanks Dr Berg! Based on some of your videos I've studied, I started taking benfotiamine, alpha lipoic acid, tocotrienol and Vitamin B12 as my everyday regimen for neuropathy. I started doing that about 6 weeks ago and the neuropathy is largely gone. I'm hoping that in the coming weeks, it will be completely gone. Also, doing intermittent fasting from roughly 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the very earliest (Usually til 12 pm or a bit later) has been quite helpful. My A1C went from 11.0 to 6.9 in a 6 weeks. I'm hopeful the next time that I get it checked it will be down to 5.7 or lower! :-) I also started walking more on a daily basis and lifting weights.
I don't know if Intermittent Fasting works for every body-type, along with the above listed vitamin regimen, but it sure is working for me!! Thank you for your very helpful information.
Please continue with your extremely useful videos. Conventional medicine can be a killer if we solely trust that as our number one option. I didn't always believe that.
My MD, while I'm sure well-intentioned, just wanted to go with the metformin and other complex DM drug route. And I was certainly going in the wrong direction. Also, didn't give much advice on diet and exercise.
Is that ignorance or negligence? I don't pose that sarcastically.

My first cousin recently dropped dead at 40 from a heart attack and he had not consumed a drop of alcohol in his life being a practising Muslim. There are many many factors in life that determine how healthy we will be and how long we would live.

I stopped drinking alcohol almost two years ago. I don't miss it one bit. I feel much better and at age 65, I need all of the help I can get sometimes. I also was treated for esophageal cancer three years ago which evolved from a hyperacidic stomach to barretts esophagus, to cancer. My beer drinking didn't help. My GI doctor back then told me alcohol causes cancer with firm conviction. That was all I needed to hear. The more I think about booze or hand sanitizer,
    Alcohol is Toxic
    Alcohol Kills Germs
    Alcohol Kills Cells
    Alcohol Causes Cancer
So why would I want to ingest a carcinogenic? Makes sense to me now. Once I got away from the brewskis, my life began to take on a more beautiful and real experience. As I look back, there was nothing liberating at all about ingesting a carcinogenic. Kudos to Dr. Berg for this excellent video! Was worked up for gallbladder issues - nothing but fatty liver. Gave up the alcohol, along with 18 hour fasts everyday, and a keto diet has eliminated ALL heartburn and abdominal pain - in less than 3 weeks folks! While I know I have several months/years of healing in front of me - the evidence is clear in how I feel. No more “liver pain”! It is not good for you at all.

Dear Dr.Berg. I don't drink alcohol even socially ,even on my birthdays or during festive seasons like Christmas ☃️.I cannot say I am loosing anything at all Moreover when I was younger and did my studies in London ,it was a nightmare to go out with a group of peers out and then in 2 or so hours find yourself in complete vacuum ,you even cannot hold a conversation with any of them .I am pleased to say I have no complaints about my gall bladder, liver ,blood pressure , endurance etc .I am 44 I have regular periods ,no chronic conditions ,I enjoy my life.
I am also always shocked by the following paradox : many people ,for example my colleagues ,they try so hard in gym ,do jogging ,try to avoid fast food during the week ,but Friday night comes they start drinking and carry on well into Saturday evening or even Sunday .Alcohol formula is C2H5OH so it's pretty much instantaneously turning into sugar I believe (not a chemist ) what is the point of all healthy lifestyle if it gets wiped out with the first shot on Friday night ?- might as well spoon sugar straight from a bag into a mouth .....Thank you for your video .❤️
