I drunk 15 bud lights everyday within 4 hr period for 2 decades. Always woke up sluggish (functioning though). Quit last June 24th cold turkey. The first few nights was a little hard to sleep. Then after that it became easier. One tip I have is to drink a lot of water to replace the urge to drink beer. I know everyone is different, but I hope this post helps someone that may need help. For me, quiting wasn't as hard as I expected.
wow,bet you stopped for other reasons aswell, bet you were an a hole once drunk🤣you just got tired of it or maybe you felt you had to quit cause of how you got.lets drink to celebrate🍻
I’ve been drinking for quite some time now, however for the past two years I gradually began drinking one liter a day of vodka. My father committed suicide last month due to drinking a handle or more each day for four days straight. So my drinking increased even more due to the shock and depression that arose, almost repeating my father had done. I was hospitalized last week and had nearly a .45 BAC, a lethal amount of alcohol in my system and I needed to be treated. I haven’t touched a drink since May 5th, and I truly hope I never do again.
Damn dude. That’s intense. Don’t listen to the drink’s whisperings and callings. You can do it. The longer you’re off it, the better you’ll feel, and though you always need to keep your guard up as cravings come and go, it will get a little easier over time. Remind yourself how many people screw their lives up over it, and how many times it’s embarrassed you or caused you to do dumb or evil things.
I’ve gone through rehabilitation programs a few times and hospitalized three times. I was a chronic alcoholic for a few years drinking a bottle of vodka or rum every day and going through a handle every 2-3 days. A lot of the time I would have 2-3 shots every hour. Coming up on two months sober and trying to take it a day at a time!
My friend Anthony was 48 when he went to the hospital. The doctor pulled us aside and said he only had a 30% chance for survival. I was so shocked because he was getting treatment in the hospital, but the doc was right. My friend passed away a few weeks later before his 49th birthday. RIP Anthony, I miss you my friend!
I lost my 47 year old friend last year due to drinking. I couldn’t believe it. Still don’t, because I was in the hospital with covid when they had his funeral. Tried to reconnect with him on Facebook and told him I don’t sign on any more because all I see is post about people I know passing.
My boyfriend died when he was 49. He didn’t believe his doctor told him any day now. We had been telling him forever. I’ve never drank alcohol or done drugs. He did it in secret but it became apparent in the end.
I drank a 6 pack every night for about 11 years never any of the hard stuff just beer. In the late summer of 18 I went to the ER with what I thought was UTI, unbeknownst to me I had stage four cirrhosis. I stopped drinking that night cold turkey it was either that or death. With no health insurance I was sure my life was over. I was able to get on state funded insurance until my wife finished graduate school and got a job that offered insurance. It was a struggle staying sober because the only chance of living was a transplant but I did, and after having my 2nd HE episode on my 41st birthday I woke up in another ICU room a 100 miles away in San Antonio and was told I was being moved to palliative care because my body was no longer functioning. One doctor refused to give up on me and promised me that I’d walk out of there again if I pushed myself harder then I could ever imagine. On March 7 2020 I had successful transplant surgery and walked out of that hospital on May 7th 2020 as promised. I just wanted to share this for those that struggling with sobriety, and for those that have cirrhosis. Life is not over

I drank a 12 pack a night for a little over a decade. I slowed down and became a weekend warrior. My anxiety during the week was a total nightmare. I still binge maybe once a month now. I know it's not good for me but I feel I made a little progress to where I once was. Stay strong brothers. God bless.
@Brandon Rhoades it comes and goes. It has improved. The worse feeling is the guilt from falling off the wagon again. The shame leads to further anxiety. Breaking old habits and cleaning up my diet was key for me.
@@greysymphonyearth Oh I feel that for sure. Then you're like, "Well I'm off the wagon anyway, might as well go back to the liquor store. I just had a rough bought last week. I think I drank about 500mL of vodka plus a handful of beers each day for 4 straight days. I too would be a weekend warrior from time to time, but I wouldn't really go ham, but last week, that was rough. I used to occasionally binge drink an insane amount of Vodka on like a Saturday night, like nearly a half-gallon. But only once in a while. Lately it's been drinking less volume, but more often. It's not exactly better, it's just this time of year is always hard for me, I have spring fever massively but it's stayed cold and dreary, usually by this time of year you'll have a half-dozen 50°+ days but not this year we haven't cracked 40° November. Sounds like an excuse, and that's because it is. But it's also true. When it's cold and dreary and there's nothing to do that's when I find myself heading to the liquor store.
To all those trying to quit alcohol, prayers are with you tonight - I’ve seen alcohol abuse in family & friends so I know it is hard …. Blessings to you all 🙏🙏🙏
I started drinking heavily in college From age 30 to 37 my drinking was obscene. I averaged a fifth of scotch a nite for 8 years. That did not include beer, wine, and after-dinner drinks. I quit cold turkey and have been sober for 45 years. I am in very good health and in good physical shape. If I had to do it all over again I would drink only water. My recommendation is, if you do not drink, do not start and If you drink, STOP.
@@anishnehete he’s have to be about 97 now. That’s pretty awesome! Stopped at 37 and sober for 45 years, that’s about 82 years. Plus the years that he wasn’t drinking…Oh! I think he meant 20 to 27 years… Oh well, however it goes, Congratulations Edward!
Good for you but someone with a terrible drinking problem like yourself is not qualified to tell moderate drinkers to stop drinking. Just because you couldn't handle your alcohol use doesn't mean others cannot. And I'm talking about people over 50 or 60 who managed their use and are still healthy.
I used to drink like 8-10 beers every weekend + some 1-3 in weekdays. 5-7% Beers which is worth adding. At my late 20's i didnt even noticed much o health issues caused by it. Just some hangovers. But later i started to feel a little pain on my right side, and ofcourse i was obese. That was the time when i said enough. After month of not drinking at all i saw how my sleep is better, no more fatigue, and no more wasted hours on hangovers. Now i just drink 1-2 beers like once a few months with friends and no more. Its a waste of time and health.
I'm 27 and I was told at 25 that my liver was getting damaged, I started drinking HEAVILY at just 13 yo, today I'm about 45 days clean and counting, alcohol destroyed my life, BE STRONG, BE SOBER!
I will be 3 months sober tomorrow after 6 years of abusing my body mostly daily at home, at bars, at parties and even during work. I’m thankful I’m still alive and never going back to that poison I was drinking🙏🏻
My brother just died yesterday from non-alcoholic fatty liver -cirrhosis, age 53, only 8 months after diagnosed. Medications and a high sugar/carb diet were the causes. We were draining roughly 12-16L of fluid from his abdomen every week. It’s a horrible disease to die from. I hope more people see Dr. Berg’s insight as a wake up call.
1 year sober as of yesterday, I can’t say enough how much better I feel. Down 35 lbs without changing much in my diet. I had cracked heals and overall could not lose weight even with regular diet and exercise. Alcohol does nothing good for you, waking up to a sunrise clear minded is better than any short lived “buzz” from booze.
But it does though. I would have never got that much pussy if I was sober.. And socializing and meeting new people when drinking is awesome. And sober people are just boring company when you drink. I don't like hangovers but I will never quit alcohol because of those reasons but nowadays I drink less than before
I have not drank much in the past two weeks and suffered mentally for it. Generally I down at least a fifth a day. I have chosen to pick up the bottle every single time in between quitting. If you wish for me to explain what I have been through I will. I’d rather die drinking than die sober. The only time I would not say that is college.
I’ve been watching Dr Berg for the past 2 months because I’m lifting and trying to lose fat. Every one of the relevant videos of his have had the resounding “stop drinking alcohol”. I’m 11 days sober. Thank you Dr Berg for putting this in a frame of reference that helped me become better.
How long will sustained symptoms trigger an irreversible damage, say, you have mild symptoms for over a year, can the liver heal itself back? If it does not get back, does it mean the DNA is already compromised?
I am almost done with a 30 day purge from alcohol and not only my body but my mental health has improved so much. For anyone out there having trouble quitting just know it's worth it
My college coach gave me the best advice when I came to practice sick and hungover. It’s not easy advice for many but I live it to this day. Drink the first, Sip the second, Refuse the third.
I'm 31 and I've been drinking every weekend 3-4 drinks a night, for a few years now and started feeling some inflammation in stomach a few months ago, I definitely need a break.
I had severe bloodshot eyes when I used to drink alcohol. People would always comment about it. The weird part was that I never drank too much, juts a glass or two. The eyes have cleared now since I've stopped drinking any alcohol.
I thought that may have been the issue for me.. so I've been doing keto and IF for 3 months now but it hasn't changed much. I think I need more sleep 😂
And you lost me. "If you're gonna become an alcoholic?" Could you be anymore condescending? First call it what it is alcohol use disorder. Second the term alcoholic doesn't benefit anyone. It really just sounds like you're taking facts and twisting them to fit s narrative or agenda. Hard pass.
My dad died of cirrhosis of the liver at 47. He was an alcoholic since I was a child. Its an awful disease. Watched my dad slowly deteriorate while he continued to drink. I do not drink at all. Have no desire to after seeing how unhealthy it can be.
My spouse has been a heavy drinker for decades...he is 50 now he drinking has cost our family so much...still drinks himself to sleep at night and drags himself into the shower every morning... the mental fog and not remembering things right is draining on me and the kids
I have a friend now in her mid 40's who has been a heavy drinker for at least 20 years and just will not stop. Very sad watching someone destroy themself.
I was a binge drinker. In times of crises usually caused by anxiety my drinking went off the charts. The more I drank the more anxious I felt the next day. It would escalate to drinking 3 bottles of vodka a day before I would be taken to hospital. The last time I had a binge like this I was admitted, I had deranged LFT’s and an enlarged liver on Ultrasound. My liver biopsy revealed severe Steatosis (fatty liver) but fortunately no hepatitis or fibrosis. I abstained and after several months my liver Function was completely normal and my liver was fat free. I was lucky! My anxiety disappeared and I’ve not touched a drop in 22 years. Do I miss it? Sometimes I feel like I do but it’s an illusion. Please enjoy a drink in moderation, I have alcohol in the house and happy to fill someone’s glass. However I’m just one of those people who could never return to social drinking. All the best to you all x
I turned a really bad situation into a positive change for me! I went to jail earlier this year and that experience kicked something in me... I have stopped drinking now for over two months and I'm so glad cause as much as I liked to drink to feel good, it was quitr the opposite when it came to a hang over. and the thought of a hang over is enough motivation for me to not drink, even when I'm so highly tempted. As much as I liked drinking, I love being sober. Losing a day because I was nursing a hang over was never my favorite and now recognizing that my time is of the essence, I cannot reason being hung over and losing a day.
My cousin was an alcoholic and started drinking heavy as a teen. By the time he was in his 30s , he would drink a case of beer daily every day and sometimes more. He always had a can of beer open unless he was asleep. He couldn't get drunk from beer anymore , so he resorted to moonshine and whiskey. What amazed me was that he was skinny , no pot belly , and had washboard abs. I know he had liver disease. There's no way he couldn't have. He passed away in 2019 at 46 , but from fentynal poisoning.
Wow perfect timing. Im 5 days sober after 15 years of drinking. For the past 8ish years I've been drinking whiskey every single day( atleast 10 4oz shots). I wake up sweating on the days I dont drink and these past few days have been horrible 4 me. I've been cutting down these past 2 months and I'm ready to quit it all now. Also been on IF+keto the past week too. This is the most confident I've been that I will get my health back or atleast a lot better
@@mandileclaire5985 thank you!! Its crazy, I've dropped almost 6lbs in 5 days. But I haven't went a weekend without alcohol since highschool so the hard part is just coming up
I stopped eating junk food now but I think I was causing myself liver damage from eating an extreme amount of sugar. I used to have a lot of the symptoms but now I feel so much better. I lost 40 to 50 lbs.
Currently I have a friend in hospital close to death as the result of alcohol. He developed cancer I don't thinks so he gonna make it. Pray for him pls thank you.
I’m 26 and I’ve been drinking 24/7 since I was like 19. I’ve gotten it down to like 2 beers a day and slowly getting it down! I just started drinking a lot of water and working out and trying not to eat so much bad stuff! Still fighting that urge everyday but I hope this helps somebody Update from 6 months ago! Fucking doing great! Y’all got this
Good luck , you got this!! I started on my early 20s , drank almost every day for 30 years. Went thru a lot of heartache. Thank goodness you've figured that out when you're young. Hope all goes well for you!!
The liver will repair itself but you have to slow down. 2 Beers is probably ok.... drink a gallon of water every single day and you'll get back to shape. Thankfully you've caught it early or you will be in line for a new liver before the age of 50.
Had some bad labwork in February and decided to fix it. Only drank once since then, stopped ibuprofen, began exercising regularly again, sleeping better, supplements, and intermittent fasting. Im down 20lbs and have follow up labs in a week and a half. Cant wait to see what the results are. Really hope to see all my markers improve
@@lordzephyrus6494 @stevenpervez7421 hey, thanks y'all for asking about an update. Labs came back great. Literally the lowest my liver enzymes have ever been, all inflammatory markers are in good shape, and now my sleep score is 15-20 points higher on average. The only things that are still a concern are my HDL, IGF-1, and blood sugar. Blood sugar was normal, but it wasn't as low as I wanted so next round of labs I'm asking for hba1c. HDL has been steadily going down for years so now I'm trying to add niacin. IGF-1 was very low which is concerning. Hgh is mad expensive so I've been using peptides for the last two months. Labs in two weeks so I hope to see IGF-1 go up some. I feel way better on the peptides though so I have to assume that's better. As far as body composition - down 30lbs of fat and up 8-10 of muscle. I now drink but it's way different. 2 beers on a Sunday watching football is as high as it gets, but mostly I'm only drinking once a month. If anybody is thinking about quitting drinking just do it. Sure sometimes I want a beer, like on a golf course or after a long day, but once I ignore that feeling I still have a good time and feel better.
I come from a family of heavy drinkers and alcoholics. I have spent over 30 years binge drinking and at times it cost me everything I had until I was literally on the street and that still didn't stop me. It is an extreme form of self abuse and basically is just poisoning yourself and destroying your mind and body. The only solution for an alcoholic is complete abstinence. The longer you continue the routine the harder it becomes to stop and becomes embedded in your lifestyle. I am committed to quitting completely and feel lucky I do not have any of these symptoms.
Drink warm lemon water every morning... It will cleanse the liver. Within thirty minutes upon awakening. And drink good dandelion tea one month and milk thistle tea the other month and alternate. These will truly help your liver to restore.
I used to drink socially and over time as I reached my forties I felt so yuck, hangovers were lasting days, anxiety was super high and body aches ...my belly was distended and the worst ever heartburn. Then I would eat loads of crisps, and junk food Macdonald's etc to give me a boost. I am now my fifties but if I have one or two drinks I really struggle to the point I have literally just given it up so not worth it and I actually don't miss it one bit. I listened to what my body was telling me...stop the booze👍
You know if you had balanced your life out better you would have had a lot less problems with drinking. I'm in my mid 40s and have worked out for decades at least 5 days a week and I eat right so it's no different for me getting wasted on a Saturday night now than it was 20 years ago.
My wife passed away 3 months ago from NAFLD (non alcoholic fatty liver disease). It was a sudden, horrible death. She barely drank but she was addicted to sugar. Being a type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump she would eat all she wanted and just pump up what she thought she needed to cover it. I was constantly having to pull her out of blood sugar highs and lows. Constant words of warning fell on deaf ears.
Damn. And they pretend like sugar isn't more addictive than cocaine. She was an addict and couldn't stop. They are selling us cocaine everyday and not telling us it is addictive.
I almost died from drinking for over 20 years in 2021. I quit. I'm on my way to recovery, but it has damaged my body in other areas. If you think you can't stop, think again. You can quit. I did. God bless everyone.🙏
Started drinking at 12, quickly became dependant on it, leading to me drinking 2 pints of whiskey a day plus beer or whatever. My body was in physical pain. After the last near death I stopped, age 32. Now at 36 Im still trying to heal my body. My cousin just passed from organ shutdown at 29. So sad. I truely believe alcohol is too heavily accepted.
I started drinking 2 years ago due to stress from work and just having to live during a pandemic. But my parents in tears begged me to stop because they feared I could end up with a diseased liver or dead in a car crash (though I have never driven drunk). I don't want them to worry about me anymore, so I stopped drinking a week ago. And now I actually feel alive again... I can actually appreciate a beautiful sunset, the wind, the trees and flowers. When I was buzzed, I felt good, but numb to everything around me. And that's not the way I want to live. So, I'm glad you decided to quit as well. 👍💪
@@gurujojo8992 No need to start comparing subjective scenarios and choices. Everyone has a different will power and ability to overcome adversity. Just like I'm sure you have certain situational triggers that get you angry, to someone else it may not even concern them in the slightest. But the emotion felt is the same regardless, so comparing how people react to negative experiences with your own is only relevant if they somehow have the identical psyche to your own.

Important to mention that alcohol is given priority by the liver and while its busy removing alcohol it cannot remove other toxins which end up recirculating in the bloodstream longer than they should.
I've been drinking for about 20 years. The last 8 years or so, I've been drinking pretty much everyday. Last 2 years, I've been drinking 1.5 bottles of wine every evening (if not more.) I'm 31 days sober. I quit cold turkey. Something just clicked and I feel so much freedom not counting down the hours until I can drink again. I'm wishing and praying this feeling lasts. I never want to go back. Sobriety is freedom.
It's all individual. As a health care provider I have seen some people only drink beer and get cirrhosis in their 30s and some people drank into their 70s and drank a half a big bottle of whiskey a day and never got cirrhosis.
My father often, I think, exceeded all the alcohol "requirements" (plus heavy smoking) in this video until his late 50's. He will be 94 in May, still has a sharp mind and last time that I checked he's eager to start his morning walk, that is at least a mile long, when weather improves. Few years back even bad weather did not bother him for his morning routine. I am definitely not mentioning this as endorsement for his early life style.
@@TheDylan6908 Thus my disclaimer at the end. Last year he got some nasty stomach infection and had seen the doctor for the first time that I remember. He was at the hospital for a week. Doctors were surprised that he's not taking any medications, and "offended" that he spent his entire life without need for their service.
My dad is currently losing his life to CKD from his alcoholism. I became sober 5 years ago and I’ve never felt better, physically and mentally. I’m thankful I won’t have to go through what my dad is going through right now.
My cousin was an alcoholic, drank a liter of Presidente brandy daily, or beer, or tequila, daily since he woke up. He ended up dying not of cirrhocis but of renal failure, his liver was made of adamantium!! He drank because he had no other thing to do. My humble advice: keep your mind occupied with positive things!! I honestly do not believe in addiction, i believe that we use substance for the pleasure of it, because reality sucks, but we get hurt in the process of using and abusing alcohol and other substances. Dr. Berg is amazing!! SURGEON GENERAL OF THE US.!!!!!
OMG..... what did I do to my body? Thankfully, I stopped binge drinking about 15 yrs ago, it was, at that stage, a weekly habit. I also drank thru the week, consuming far more wine than I should've. I have/had Type 2 Diabetes and developed cancer @ 50 yrs (Non Hodgkins Lymphoma) also. In an odd way cancer saved my life. I also stopped smoking from then on. Due to chemo, the taste of alcohol and cigarettes tasted foul to me. (It makes me gag to smell it) I had been given a 2nd chance.... and I am running with it. Thanx to finding Dr Berg my whole life has changed. I live a Keto, organic lifestyle now. Let's hope it isn't too late. I am 64.
Thanks Dr Berg for this...I just started my alcohol free journey 3 months ago after 10 yrs of occasional/social drinking. I was looking for recent videos regarding this topic to keep me motivated to continue.
I think we all need something to quickly relieve stress occasionally, but it is a challenge to find something that is healthy. The answer must be to live a life that is as stress-free as possible.
You're so right. Unfortunately, many people were raised to believe that a horribly tasting drink can relieve stress, when in fact it's the one thing they dont want to do and that is to quickly say a short sentence positive and empowering prayer with an open mind for healing and acceptance. Of course there is no such thing as a quick fix, so one will have to follow through later, with action. Not a prayer that is defeating with the attitude of giving up responsibility for their actions. Selflove is the target spiritually.
I lift weights a lot but unfortunately I can't be in the gym all day and raising toddlers with a ex wife takes a toll and alcohol keeps me sane but I know it will catch up.
Good that you are openly stating that. Hopefully you'll try again but this time address the real problem, which is reason you're drinking. Once you deal with that underlying cause, you'll be free and it won't return. Also learn to truly love yourself, your special sovereign being of God/Source. If you love yourself you won't try to destroy the self that you do not love. I dont mean egotistically and superficially, I mean the being that you are deep inside, see the uniqueness with love and appreciation for life. Do the hard work. Recognize and do the shadow work. When you do, you will be able feel self love and then you can love others, also you'll be able to attract love into your life. I'm sending you much love and blessings. Namaste 😇😍🤗
Some of these comments break my heart. So many people started drinking at such a young age. Tough road. Praying for everyone struggling! One foot in front of the another. Keep going! 🙏🏻
I rarely drink anymore, maybe a drink or two on New Years Eve and that’s about it for the rest of the year. I’m far from being a holy roller, and I used to drink on the weekends like an Alcohol Olympian back in the day. I eventually just kind of lost interest in it more than anything. I had a dear friend who died of liver failure at 36. His was a case of drinking himself into an early grave. While I used to blow off steam on the weekends, he was a classic alcoholic who for as long as I knew him, would drink as much as whole bottle of Johnny Walker Black between the time he got home until he finally passed out. This went on for years. We all gave him “the talk” but in the end it was for naught. I wouldn’t say that what happened to him was the reason which led me to quit drinking alcohol, but for me it was more of a cautionary tale. I certainly didn’t want to end up like him and today, a decade after he passed, I can’t imagine a set of circumstances where I would go out and get hammered into oblivion. Although I didn’t stop drinking because of CJ, I think of him every new year when I have my annual glass of wine or beer.
Went from binge drinking every weekend to occasional drinks every now and then with friends. Best thing I ever did, and another positive that isn't mentioned here is stomach issues will be less prevalent when you stop drinking. That's the number 1 issue I had during binges that was finally catching up with me.

Everyone’s threshold is different. Some people really shouldn’t drink at all and others can slam for decades without major complications. Scary part is you don’t really know which type you are until it might be too late, which is why it’s best to play it safe if you can. I live in New Orleans so it’s damn near impossible to not drink and have a social life but I have cut back. Get blood work done annually, workout 4-5 days a week, and eat healthy, never had any issues but the time will come where I gotta quit or at least significantly cut back.

Man I can't explain the level of damage I've done. Not only hospitalized with alcohol induced pancreatitis but feeling so much ill effects. The level of back pain, sweating, eyes so red, skin red and yellow, but having doctors tell me my organ levels were incredibly dangerous for someone 26. I need to stop because I can now drink a fifth of whiskey easily on one day, Often everyday, stop eating for days, seeing my body deteriorating, losing incredible amount of weigt. Its time to change this

Had a friend who died in his early 60s from alcoholism. Have another friend who is alcoholic, but quit several years ago, thankfully. He's a good guy, one of my best friends ever. Sure am grateful that he's still around, because if he hadn't stopped, I doubt that he'd still be here.
One thing I've found that works for me, might not be for everyone of course, but non alcoholic budweiser and Heineken. They're making these non-alcoholic beverages more and more authentic. It's obviously the mimic of a realistic taste, flavor and gives you the same feeling without the horrible hangover and side effects. It helps, good luck to everyone 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I find it interesting to hear that regardless of how heavy a drinker people are whether that’s every day or binging on weekends, in EVERY case where there is a reduction in that consumption level, there is an improvement in quality of life. Says a lot about drinking in general.
I use to in my mid thirties drink a 12 pack of beer every night and ate a lot of stuff that was high in sugar. I am now 60 but I have changed my diet and cut back a lot on the alcohol over the past 16 years.
I drank a six pack/day + whiskey for 15 years, stopped drinking and did healthy keto for one month and my liver values were back to normal. Our bodies are amazing!
Haven't drank since my early 20s. Quit drinking and chewing tobacco at that early age. Why can't I quit sugar, sugar substitutes and refined carbs at 62? I only want it after my OMAD. Thanks Doc, for all you do.
Because sugar feeds yeast in your gut. This yeast secretes hormones that send impulses to your brain to crave more sugar, feeding the yeast. It's a powerful evolutionary mechanic that allows this microbe to take over the host and eat what it wants. The only way to get rid of these sugar cravings is to get rid of the yeast, by starving it.
I lost a friend a few years back due to NAFLD. I had noted he had a horrendous diet. All processed foods and fructose laden drinks. I recall him bragging to me how he would drink a huge glass of orange juice (bottled) each day and just how healthy that was for him to do. I would cringe at what he was doing to his liver. I noticed he had a large belly but the rest of his body was close to normal. I didn't lecture him, I would just tell him how I ate to give him something to think about. But the end came suddenly and proceeded quickly to the end. He never drank alcohol.
I've never been drunk in my life and never for other than social reasons. Yet at the age of about 48 I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the biliary ducts! My doctor had refused to believe for two years that I didn't drink, had never drank, too excess. It's an PBC is an incurable disease. My liver enzymes had been elevated for over 15 years! Today I am cured of PBC. I cured myself, I believe, by a three month juice fast but have no proof. In fact, my VA doctors refused to believe I had PBC because my enzyme levels were normal and when one of them repeated the test it came back normal. My liver enzymes have been normal for about six years now.
@@AlcoveShadow Primary biliary cirrhosis. It affects women 9X more than men. As I said, I've no proof my juices fast cured me but that was the only think I did different about the time I retired. I did it to lose weight but I actually gained 30lbs in three months! Most likely because I was using carrots as the main ingredient, for volume, as I was eating only a little lean chicken at this time. I don't know if it was important but I juiced about two POUNDS if carrots a day! I did worry a little that I mighty turn orange. I did this for three months. I tried to use almost no fruit cuz of the sugar (D'oh!). But I did use one but no more than two apples. I'm not sure when my liver enzymes returned to normal but it was after this that my new VA doctors started questioning who I "thought" I had PBC. I "thought" I had it because my doctor ran three test and TOLD me I had it. He then told me there was no cure. Ta Da!! Today however, I'm using carnivore to deal with some other issues that appear to be metabolic. Any carbs now rocket my blood sugar over 200 and it stays that high unless I use insulin. Problem is my insulin in now 20 when normal is 2! I've only recently learned of all the problems caused by high INSULIN! Health is a Journey apparently. I'm on it because I now realize "Healthy is the slowest way to die."

I was just watching your videos on hypothyroidism as this video came through. Dr Berg I would like to thank you for all the amazing information you explain. You make it easy for the average person to understand. Thank you so much. Katherine (Australia)
Thank you Dr. Berg for this video. Numerous people do not understand the negative effects that alcohol has on our bodies. My daughter's father in-law died today at sixty-one from alcohol addiction & I have known others who have died even younger. Sadly, alcohol causes problems for the person who consumes, families & society.
You’ve been drinking every day for 5-6 years?? Please try to stop … my sister died a few years ago at only 25 from drinking (cirrhosis) It’s a horrible way to go God bless you are in my prayers 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Dr B. Thank you for being transparent. And thank you for encouraging us and giving us valuable information. Your passion to help us is truly heroic.
My brother works in a hospital and he told me that a consultant told him liver disease is now a young person issue more than an older person issue. This is scary.
I'm a creative person. I found that I could boost my creativity as well productivity, by drinking a few beers at night. Now, I hate the taste of generic beer, however I learned that some of those special Belgian brew, is quite honestly one of the best things I've ever tasted. I'd usually get 2 large, or 3 regular sized brew, keeping it only to the evenings, where I'd do the bulk of my creative work. I thought I had it in the bag and was in control, because I didn't see myself as alcoholic; I didn't CRAVE it and I could easily stop if there were periods where I didn't, or couldn't do creative work in the late evenings. However... I started feeling "unwell" after quite some time. Not sick, like I wanted to throw up, or to go see a doctor, anything like that. Just a very "meh" feeling. I did eventually see a physician after I started getting anxious about my heart. My heart was pounding away when I was trying to sleep. Sleep that would be interrupted after only 3 hours, by a bodily sensation of "alertness". The physician told me, in regards to alcohol, the "healthy" amount was 10 Units of alcohol per week (old system used to be 21 for males). Now, I hadn't done the math on the beer I was drinking, since I thought I was in control and it was "just 2~3 beer in the late evening", however, when I added the numbers... my weekly Alcohol unit count was 40 at the least, and 60 at the most! 4~6 times the "safe" amount! Around the same time... TH-cam creepily started recommending this channel (even though I had done no active searches on in) and I started enjoying a Blueberry + Kale + Kefir smoothie (not as rancid as I had feared, the blueberries really adds a lot of flavor), as well as almost a daily lunch dish of Arugula + Cod liver + Sauerkraut + Lemon peel shavings + chopped garlic, with a little bit of oil and sea salt... I'm on my 3rd week of doing that and I quite frankly... feel like brand new. So, many thanks for the good health advice. 👍 It is as you said in this video. We tend to think we're in control, not being too self-aware at first, thinking as long as we don't overeat or constantly eat unhealthy junkfood daily as well heavily drink, then we should be fine! Surprisingly, not always the case.
@@BRIANDER100 It's a ruby red dark strong ale with a fruity/berry taste to it. It reminds me of something I tasted when I was young. I recall visiting a beer-place, where I got to try one simply called "Pirate". I believe it was brewed on ripe cherries, but I was never able to find that particular one back. However the Charles Quint one was pretty darn close to it. Maybe even better, than I remember this "Pirate" one to be!
Good Morning , Dr.Berg 🌞 Thank you so for saving lives around the world And Sharing this episode with everybody , May God continue bless you , Have a great weekend ! ❤ 4 / 29 / 2022 ❤
Dr. Berg this was very timely. I was just thinking of my friend who has alcoholism. I'm more of a weed smoker myself. Maybe one day you can make a video for us stoners out there? 🙏🏼 Most info about smoking dangers is geared towards tobacco users.
You don't have to wait for Dr. Berg to create a video, you already instinctively know that it's not good for you. I worked with a few weed smokers who often suffered from bouts of paranoia, yet still tried to defend the habit. Look at it from a different angle, you only have so much unspecified time on this planet, it's a waste of life. I know people who just lose days at a time living in a fog of confusion. It's not a healthy habit, your lungs are not designed for weed or tobacco. There may be some evidence that it's good for pain control in tablet form. Susel, try and find the courage to kick it out of your life. Nothing is a better feeling than clarity of mind and a healthy body. Dr. Berg has put up so many excellent free videos on a healthy lifestyle. Choose a different path.
Unfortunately some people will relate their own bias to your question. Smoking is not the only way and not enough science has actually even been proven due to just being legal the last 5 to 10 years. Its all bias unrelated correlation and not causation factors that people will preach. Most don't even know they have a endocannibinoid system and what it does and what happens when it's depleted.
I used to drink ~20 beers a nite for years, and when I did I hated sweet foods. My body rejected sugar completely. After I quit drinking I started having sugar cravings.
my father has this huge baloon belly, hard and bloated all the time. he has diabetes type 2, high cholesterol and blood preasure. very worried about his health.
tried for years. but he has zero clue about nutrition and health. he thinks he got diabetes from eating fat, and that eating whole grains is the healthies for a diabetic to eat. its actually shocking.
Alcohol nearly killed me. Not to mention the damage to my family. I developed alcoholism. Get a medical detox and stop drinking if you feel you have a problem. Don't suffer in silence like I did. 3.5 years clean and sober and healthy now. Thank you Dr Berg👍😊
The only downside would be the effect the carbohydrates in the beer have on your blood sugar and your liver having to process them. A non-alcoholic beer every once in a while won’t hurt.
I'm not trying to make excuses for my drinking but.......I've been binge drinking since I was about 20ish, I'm 42 now. I don't drink everyday. Sometimes I binge once a week, sometimes once every 2 weeks, usually feel hungover the next day. I do alot of what berg says for liver health, I eat broccoli, drink lots of water everyday, exercise regularly, take milk thistle everyday and teas, etc.......last dr. Checkup about a week ago said my liver enzymes are good. I think you can still binge and be ok. Everybody is different.
From ages 13 to 19, I got drunk every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to the point of throwing up and not remembering the night before. Throughout my 20's I was a little better but not by much. For my 30's and 40's I abused other substances. On top of all that, seeing as how I have ate more carbs than anything through it all, i think it's late in the 4th. Time to make BIG changes. Good luck to all of you in similar situations.
I can't count the number of times I've been so very thankful I didn't like the taste of alcohol enough to stick with it. I was always a sugarholic and shudder to try to imagine where I'd be now had I done alcohol on top of it. I know what it is fighting sugar. My heart truly goes out to anyone also fighting alcohol, cigs, drugs on top of the bad food beast.
Funny thing is, sugar is even worse for your liver and body in general. Especially aspartame in diet soda. Edit: sugar is worse not because it is more toxic but because the average person consumes more than the recommended amount in a day for their whole lives without ever thinking twice about it. Everyone knows everyday drinking is a no-no
Hi Dr Berg, A few years ago my liver function tests were very bad, I didnt record the values but the Dr told I had to reduce it, I did my own research including watching you're videos and I decided that I would reduce the sugar but carry on drinking alcohol, slowly my LFT's returned to normal I still drink every night but my LFT's have remained normal ever since
This is very interesting. I think a lot of people don't take into account the fact that eating too much sugar and taking medications add to the damage alcohol is already doing. How long did it take for your lft's to start returning to normal? Lately I've been trying to limit my drinking to the end of the week, and also cutting back even on those days. It's hard sometimes though. You said you still drink, how much and what type of liquor is you don't mind me asking?
I have bean drinking one liter 45% alcohol for two years and tree months every day. Not one day without. Ten days ago i just say no more. Now i feel good.
In high school we had a rule when drinking. For the first hour we would drink one beer every fifteen minutes. By the end of the first hour we would be full on drunk, and from that point we could simply nurse drinks the rest of the night to maintain the buzz. But we were also much more health conscious than most people because we were stoners, not drunks. So we took milk thistle, alpha lipoic acid and other supportive supplements and avoided processed foods.
Try green tea! It’s very good for the liver! I too usually don’t feel better until evening when I drink a couple shots.. I’m wondering if you haven’t drank in 3 years than why you feel bad… Do you have a clean diet?
I was too late and developed liver disease. I was diagnosed with cirrhosis about 5 years ago and had ascites and needed paracentesis every 2 weeks or less. Jaundis was early on in my diagnosis but eventually went away. I developed a ambilical hernia that looked like a large grapefruit size tumor hanging off my belly and it was eventually removed (emergency operation that i waited around for in a hospital bed for 2 weeks) so i now dont have a belly button...lol. I also had the itchy skin and pretty much everything described but fortunately for me i quit cold turkey and my liver has since healed. Havent had Paracentesis in over a year and my last MELD score was 8. I drank at least a 12 pack every day sometimes more for about 20 years and its a wonder i made it that far.
Glad you are ok! 😊. I was a heavy drinker for years. Couldn't stop no matter what I tried. Finally started having physical symptoms which made me stop.
Even Keith Richards gave up drinking recently. :) Dr Berg, I’d be curious about your thoughts on Mr Richards and how he’s survived so long while others with healthier lifestyles seem to have fallen all around him. Also, if one were to stop drinking, what supplements and general advice would you give?
Learned, now 1 beer a month.sad but can't keep drinking the way I used to. On the broccoli, turmeric, carrots, thistle, salad diet. Cut out sugar in coffee using truvia. and cut out alcohol. Reverse fatty liver.

I was born May 16

Cold turkey? I'm in the same boat and need to quit. Thank you for sharing

Yea! Keep going. Best gift you can give to yourself and others!!
If you have any friends that you drank with, stay away for a while. I feel your pain.

Hepatic encephalopathy is a decline in brain function that occurs as a result of severe liver disease. In this condition, your liver can’t adequately remove toxins from your blood. This causes a buildup of toxins in your bloodstream, which can lead to brain damage.
Hepatic encephalopathy can be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term). In some cases, a person with hepatic encephalopathy may become unresponsive and slip into a coma.

Thanks for sharing that and sorry for your loss.

what kind of medications was he taking that caused cirrhosis?
Did he try to make any changes when he was diagnosed? Or was it already to late? I was told losing weight and change the way I eat would help.

It would escalate to drinking 3 bottles of vodka a day before I would be taken to hospital.
Congratulations, may you continue to prosper in your new found life.

Sorry to hear. I've been hearing alot obout that Fentanyl stuff

I wake up sweating on the days I dont drink and these past few days have been horrible 4 me. I've been cutting down these past 2 months and I'm ready to quit it all now. The liver will repair itself but you have to slow down. 2 Beers is probably ok.... drink a gallon of water every single day and you'll get back to shape. Thankfully you've caught it early or you will be in line for a new liver before the age of 50.

Once you deal with that underlying cause, you'll be free and it won't return. Also learn to truly love yourself, your special sovereign being of God/Source. If you love yourself you won't try to destroy the self that you do not love.
Everyone’s threshold is different. Some people really shouldn’t drink at all and others can slam for decades without major complications. Because sugar feeds yeast in your gut. This yeast secretes hormones that send impulses to your brain to crave more sugar, feeding the yeast. Today I am cured of PBC. I cured myself, I believe, by a three month juice fast but have no proof. In fact, my VA doctors refused to believe I had PBC because my enzyme levels were normal and when one of them repeated the test it came back normal.

Ta Da!!

It is as you said in this video.

Good Morning , Dr.Berg 🌞
Thank you so for saving lives around the world And Sharing this episode with everybody , May God continue bless you , Have a great weekend !
At the end of the day, both of them are escapism.
@@Pragnantweggyboard You are totally right.
@@garythompson9452 weed is all natural and grows from the ground you can use a dry herb vaporizer and not smoke it, has tons of benefits
Thank you sweetness & light. I am so hopeful that this will help many people.
I used to drink ~20 beers a nite for years, and when I did I hated sweet foods. My body rejected sugar completely. After I quit drinking I started having sugar cravings.
Yup! Same here. Never had a sweet tooth until I quit drinking.
my father has this huge baloon belly, hard and bloated all the time. he has diabetes type 2, high cholesterol and blood preasure. very worried about his health.
tell himt to gho Keto.
tried for years. but he has zero clue about nutrition and health. he thinks he got diabetes from eating fat, and that eating whole grains is the healthies for a diabetic to eat. its actually shocking.
Yes I have all of the above; some traits are inherited; my dad passed away at 53; I'm 85 and counting!
Hi - I am a non-drinker, although I enjoy an O'Douls from time to time. Does non-alcoholic beer cause any negative side effects on the liver ?
Thank you!
do you have any illness
Please do more alcohol videos…
Lots of us could use the info 🙏
Everyone knows everyday drinking is a no-no
@@jackkenny4194science? Studies? Aspartame specifically
Phil Lesh is still alive because he got a transplant
I feel worse since I gave up alcohol back in 2019. Gave up caffeine recently too. That has been a mostly positive experience after the withdrawal.
Caffeine isn't bad for you unless u do it too much or put sugar in it 😁 couple of cups a day is actually good for your body
Try green tea!
It’s very good for the liver!
I too usually don’t feel better until evening when I drink a couple shots..
I’m wondering if you haven’t drank in 3 years than why you feel bad…
Do you have a clean diet?
@@shejar nope its not, do more research. they say it is so u buy it, same with a glass of wine a day
@@NoSparks what's wrong w glass of wine a day?
@@NoSparks nah lol green tea is associated with longevity so is coffee 😁 been studying cellular science for years now
I was too late and developed liver disease. I drank at least a 12 pack every day sometimes more for about 20 years and its a wonder i made it that far.
how old are you
Glad you are ok!
I quit drinking 4 years ago. This video makes me really glad! Yikes…it made me think of the health of friends and family that still drink.
Learned, now 1 beer a month.sad but can't keep drinking the way I used to. On the broccoli, turmeric, carrots, thistle, salad diet. Cut out sugar in coffee using truvia. and cut out alcohol. Reverse fatty liver.
