  • I grew up listening to Rush. When I was 16, I thought all I ever wanted to do was be in a Prog Rock Trio playing superhuman, precise parts and multitasking like Alex Lifeson (or any member of Rush, really), but what I realized as I got older was that Rush was more than just a Prog Rock Band. Even as I thought my tastes were moving toward less complicated composers, Rush still remained more accessible than any other Prog Rock I heard before or since ... Alex exhibited much more taste and straight-forward ideas than I could recognize at first, and this is why his guitar parts and Rush's songs are able to really stick in my head and have stayed with me through the years. That's the kind of thing that I strive for now when writing my own material, and it's Alex and Rush that were ahead of the curve on that for me too. YYZ is one of those kinds of songs ... once you hear it's intro, main riff and bridge, it's not really hard to understand .... it's got some amazing musicianship ... but here is that word again ... it's accessible. Even without any lyrics. And the guitar solo is at or very near the top of list of my favorite guitar solos of all time.
    So here is a Live Looping, One Man Band take on a classic Rush Instrumental Track. Everything recorded and controlled in Real Time. Nothing prerecorded. #LiveLooping #OneManBand
    Thanks Neil (RIP), Geddy and Alex for some wonderful music and inspiration through the years!

    Astonishing. Wow, turning all those little guitar/bass/drum loops on and off at the right times throughout... So impressive! It must have taken weeks to get the coordination down. Nice playing, too!

    Holy Cow !! - Just bought a 12 Step to cover my long held desire to get a Taurus and found you from that video and this is just stunning - something I would aspire to but doubt I would ever achieve. Nice

    Seriously if Aeros Loop Studio and Morningstar Don’t use this as a case study or promo for how to maximise their gear then I am lost for words!
    That is an amazing setup and brilliantly executed! 👍🏻

    OK, mind blown! I was always impressed by wall of sound that Rush created playing this live as a 3 piece... But as a SOLO act? You must be Joe King! Awesome work dude.

    This is so damn impressive dude. Live looping RUSH? That is ballsy as hell, and you totally pulled it off. Great production and video work too, you're one of the few creators out there when I see one of your videos I instantly click on it. Amazing work :)

      Thanks Hunter. Same here, you always craft your performances and I really enjoy that aspect of what you do beyond just being a extremely talented musician. And BTW, I cussed up a storm with this one! I won't do a blooper reel as it would probably get my account blocked!

    This is just totally amazing!! Even the china crash in the guitar solo was there! I'd be very impressed with myself if I could either play the song or remember the sequence, nevermind doing both!! 👏👏👏

    I’m very impressed.
    How long did it take you to figure out what you could play in each section from the song.

    • @jmkmusicpedals
      @jmkmusicpedals  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It probably took 2 sessions to work it all out and another to rehearse it. I originally wasn't going to do so much, but as it went along I discovered ways I could do more.

    As I new user to the 12 Step I am guessing you have toes of steel - I have tried about four pairs of shoes so far and socks seems impossible :)

      I'm not using any velocity sensitivity. That's the key for me. Every press comes out the same.

    Just one thing to say - do da do donk - classic . Great orchestration? Not sure what to call it cause you have to decide what to play live so maybe "choreograstration"
