      Isaac Brock didn’t like doing interviews back then, but he’s starting to do them more often. In my opinion, I think he’s doing more because it ends up bringing more attention to his band and in turn more money for his family. Still waiting on his Hot Ones interview.

      Even weirder, Lonesome Crowded West was one of my favorite CDs in high school in the late 90s, which is just a raw ripping power trio in their prime. And I always wondered how he had such clean, unique whammy bar technique that seemed impossible to replicate. For 25 years I had no idea he was using this invention!!

    One time on tour we were in a park in Portland and Isaac came out and played frisbee with us. He left after a while and said his GF was gonna be mad at him since he was only supposed to step out for a couple minutes and he walked off into the dark and we wondered if he was ever really there.

      When he talks about the gear though he clearly doesn't have a deep understanding for each device, has just sorta stumbled upon sounds he likes.
      Compare this to a modern "gear head" who can tell you everything about pedal they own and the history of it etc.

    I've been a fan of Isaac's bands since I was a teenager. So almost 20 years now. I still regularly listen to his music (and play it as a guitar player of two decades who also just picked up drums 8 years ago). I actually just learned the main Truckers Atlas drum groove and have been playing it constantly lol. Jeremiah's playing was a huge reason why I also picked up drums after playing guitar most my life. So between Isaac and Jeremiah I'd say there's a lot of inspiration to go around. I also build tube amps and guitar pedals as well as restore and repair them (and old tube radio receivers when I get the opportunity) so I absolutely get the pedal obsession. I'm one of those guys who's likely to start a pedal company, build some stuff that I put all my heart into, then go bankrupt and have all my pedals end up in the "we gotta charge you something" box lol.

    • @michaelinglis567
      @michaelinglis567 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@futuresmiles5797 There is a really stripped down tutorial of it on here by a guy who's channel I think is called Cobb TV. His version isnt as accurate as it could be but if I hadn't seen that lesson I couldn't have gotten the basics of the groove down as quickly. After I learned his version I watched some covers and looked up some tabs and refined it from there. It's such a a fun groove to play. But learning it showed me just how much work my left foot needs. Im working on keeping time on my left foot now like Jeremiah did which will help with those off beat accents. Anyways I hope you're able to learn it quickly cause it really is such sick groove.

    My entire life that I’ve been listening to MM I’ve perceived Isaac similar to that of living myth. Seeing him walk through his “tools” made me see him as more human. Those aren’t just tools but memories; a story of the last 30 years. This is the first time I’ve envied someone for how rich in comfort they must be that they can access the emotional and relational library of their life’s experiences.

    Years ago we were camping on mt hood. We went on a little walk around the camp ground and there was some weird little swamp lake thing with a dock to walk out on it. My wife and I walked out there and I heard someone say something to me…I was like, that’s Isaac Brock’s voice..looked up and it was someone who also looked liked Isaac Brock. Nice guy, we just hung out there for a bit, and enjoyed the swamp. I’ll never forget that, glad you are well and still making music.

    He’s right, the Cure did write many of their songs on a Bass VI. Robert owns a ton of vintage Bass VI’s (over ten apparently), and he tends to start writing songs with bass lines first. But they’ve used Bass VI’s since 1981. They even have a song “High” which features two Bass VI’s at the same time.

    I think about Isaac Brock all the time because of that one interview where he said the band gets drunk and runs over dogs in the van, then years later in another interview he said someone once wrote article an saying the band gets drunk and runs over dogs in the van. It’s just such a funny weird time thing, the way this one story bridged between the first interview (early in their career) and the second (after they became popular) and the fact that the article actually wasn’t making it up but rather was referring to an interview that even Isaac had long forgotten-and probably he was drunk anyway-is for some reason really funny to me.
    Any time I hear about vehicles striking dogs, which is surprisingly often because I live in a place where very little happens except for the dogs and cars stuff.

    I met Dr. Brock in the late 90’s at 1st Ave. He was claiming to be the “extreme sports coordinator” was riding around before the show on a razor scooter through the crowd- arranging pool matches between strangers. He told me that they were gonna raise the stage up a couple stories, and then just show video of the band. At the end, the band was supposed to bungee jump off the stage. I told him it was a bad idea…but it wasn’t. Later that night they were taking requests and I shouted out “trucker’s atlas” and they played it. Nice memories.
