I've had my locs 11 yrs. Never lost a loc. Here's the secret.
Keep your products natural and simple.
I only use thin and clear shampoos..lately psoriasis shampoo for my scalp.
I didn't use conditioner after I saw buildup about 2 yrs in. U really don't need it much..only at the root to soften it a bit if u do a retwist. But you Must Rinse thoroughly where the new growth and loc meet (buildup area).
I only use almond oil then castor oil on the length of the loc after I dry my hair with a lint free towel..don't keep adding it every week.
Don't use products to retwist after you are actually loc'd (approx. after a year).
(Locs turn dull and more firm and will not unravel when you are officially loc'd
Get rid of all clothing, blankets, scarves, sweaters, hats, shirts, bed linens that have any lint. I sleep on a satin pillowcase with my hair up but not covered. Most people's hair is much thinner than mine so don't retwist every month...just separate the locs on wash day and I will just braid about 6 together at a time to keep my new growth from being so frizzy. Enjoy! Keep it simple. You will have healthy and long locs forever 🌺💕💕

@@AlexisHarris you're most welcome lil sis. I got more yrs in the game and wish someone would have told me sooner lol. Also I saw your loc thinning. That's from retwisting too tightly and also too frequently. I also don't do styles unless it's a major occasion and I don't keep in any updos more than a night. Mostly because my hair is so long and heavy now. But each loc is like a mini ponytail. The tension builds up over days and u will notice everyone who has these beautiful styles consistently has thin locs and worse, most develop traction alopecia. My suggestion for your locs in particular is to halt retwists for a few months. Embrace the frizz and fuzz. Just gently separate your locs at the root on wash day so they don't combine. But that may be a good idea as well since your roots have thinned. A few years from now u will most likely have a visible line where your locs are uneven due to this thinning...u can cut away the old part to have uniformity. Or just start fresh with your new knowledge. Just don't let the hair define you or your beauty. Enjoy the frizzy journey. Much love 💙💙💙

I had locs for 23 years (a well spent youth, I must say), then about 6 years ago I decided to comb them out and become a loose natural. I loved my afro, but the price of hair care products be killin' my bottom line, yo. And, the south coast England has the hardest water known to human kind. I'm now 3 weeks into my new loc journey and honey, it's so good to back home! The two strand twist / crochet starter locs are challenging, but I'm trying to just let nature take it's course.

Hello ladies, I just joined the loc family on July 16th, 2024, at 60, but I have been doing two-strand twists since 2014. My daughter wanted to do our twist journey together. I am 3 days in, and she is maybe 3-4 weeks in. She did a two-strand twist, and I did the locking, and my hair is entirely gray. I started graying in my 20's. Thank Alexis, for the incredible information as I learn to care for my locs. This information is fantastic and I pray I can do this. Right now, my hair is up in locs, and I am feeling itchy. I sleep with my satin cap on and go out with my satin cap under my scarf because my hair is shorter with the starter locs. And I don't want my scalp to be exposed right now. Please keep this information coming. ❤❤❤❤

I am 62 years old and 4 months in my twisted lock journey. My hair is growing and I am graying…I cover my head with silk scarf and bonnet. I use pure rose water. I moisturize with my black castor oil, grape seed, jojoba, mint oil mixed. All is great. I have my locks retwisted every 6/8 weeks. I massage my scalp with my finger tips… no long finger nails. My hair looks similar to yours but longer and more locks… love this video… I did a great deal of research for a few year before i started my journey.❤😊

My hair is healthier than it’s ever been. I love it and it’s spiritual for me. There is no other way I want my hair than like it is. It’s getting longer, very proud of my results.

Great informative video! I have been locked for three years. I think it’s important to remember everyone hair texture is different and so thickness may not always be achievable. I learned that within my first year. I also don’t always cover my hair at night and don’t retwist much. I barely do anything to them lol.

Actually I wanted to scratch, just as you were mentioning it🥰but I don’t I just Pat the area. Thank you for sharing with us, it makes me feel good that I’m doing the right things. I wash & RETWIST at 4 weeks too. I also have a little girl baby (cat) she’s actually an old gir now, she’s nearly 17 years old & sleeps a lot, but I love her to bits. So glad that you mentioned loc jewellery, I’ve been so tempted, but will continue to wait a bit longer, till at least the 1year mark. Thank you again. Great energy, love your smile, sis. I’ve been on this journey six years, so you gotta know what works for you, I agree with you. As far as an itchy scalp, there are some essential oils that you can blend together with an oil to put on the scalp to help and let sit prior to shampooing. Lemongrass is one that is known to work on dandruff, as well as ylang ylang and lavender. I make my own hair oil and add it to my deep conditioner also, and sometimes you can add to your shampoo and massage into the scalp really well. Thanks for sharing your tips!

Yeah my stylist said no washing period b/c its like resetting the process, but I think its more of the type of hair you have I say this since mine is curly soft hair so it will be difficult to lock if I wash it. I get my retwist every 2 weeks. So far I'm loving the loc journey its more comfortable and cheaper than braids.

First time watching!! I want to say you have such a beautiful spirit and energy that I could feel thru watching your video. Just seem like a calm, pure, & genuine spirit 🥰
thank you for the tips and sharing your journey with us.
I’m just starting out and trying to be sooo patient (only 3 months in 🤕) and I’m hoping they will actually look like they are locs instead of two strand twists or something other than locs lol.
My friend has done 2 strand twists and even braided part of it and told me to just stay put and let it naturally work it’s way more and more into locs since I’m not completely natural. Her locs are amazing and so are her kids so I’m just trusting her lol.
Also, I haven’t checked your other videos out, but do you have any interests in astrology, herbal medicines & soaps, maybe a weekly topic regarding an aspect of mental health.
I think those are topics that never seem to get old & intrigue many, at least in my opinion. Also, I would be interested in learning more about your journey, and how you discovered your passion & gifts for doing these videos? We’re you always interested?
Just a few ideas. I’m headed to check your other episodes out 😊

Awww, hey Whitney!!!!! 😍😍😍😍 Thanks so much for being here. Let me just say I love your energy and I can feel it through my phone screen right now.
Thank you for sending me so much love and new ideas for content! Congratulations on your first three months in this journey. When I first started out I had the same concerns that my hair would look like twists instead of locs (and I’m still paranoid sometimes actually 😩🤣) but trust me when I say your hair will do wonders and surprise you in the most beautiful ways.
I’m so happy you’re here and look forward to hearing more about your journey as your locs develop and mature! Sending you the biggest hug and the most love 💖💖💖🥳🥳🥳

This is my dilemma now 😫 My locs look like 2 strand twists now. It's been a month now.
