      I have MS Plaid and they're pretty close on straight line performance. It shoves you back pretty well, but I also tested M3 Performance (new one) and to be honest it's not an enormous difference in senses. Numbers climb faster but it's maybe 20-30% difference in how it "feels" at 100% more horsepower

    • @coma13794

      Agreed. The number of instances where the differences between a GT (or even Touring, as you have) and Sapphire make a difference in every day driving is not enough to justify the cost. On a track, it's unrivaled. But.....we don't drive on tracks, we drive on roads. I have a GT and after the first week I stopped doing launches...they're just not comfortable. The 'real', 'useful' power is on the freeway for overtakes. Driving at 70 or 75, if you need a quick blip to get around some folks, you're at 90-95 with zero drama or effort (not flooring it, either, there's almost never a need), then back down to cruise once the traffic is clear. I've lost count of how many times in the last 4 months I've found that to be useful. The 0-60 stuff is honestly just a novelty that wears off after a couple of weeks imo....and I absolutely LOVE performance driving. The cornering and handling are outstanding in all the models. It's just a pleasure to drive. TL;DR: you're right. If you have the money, sure, go for it, but for PRACTICAL DAILY purposes, I find there just isn't a ENOUGH difference between Touring, GT and Sapphire to justify a Sapphire. You need 'stupid' money to be ok with it.
      The GOOD news is...get yourself a used Touring or GT and drive the hell out of it. They can be had for mid 60's.

    • @Miata822
      @Miata822 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I love my Air GT but would love to drive the Sapphire on a track or twisty mountain road. Beyond the power, it has many suspension, brake, and tuning mods. They say the torque vectoring is like magic. As cars get quicker and more track-worthy the price climbs quickly. The maxed-out Taycan Turbo can be optioned to an even higher price, same as high performance ICE cars.

    I'm currently driving a Lucid Air Dream Edition with 1111 HP. I love this car, it is a fighter jet on wheels. I'm actually salivating at what the Sapphire can do. It is also incredibly efficient: I recently drove a few hundred kilometres on the Autobahn at about 140 km/h and in temperatures of between 5 and -1 °C and used 26.5 kWh/100 km. That is nuts. I had four passengers and luggage in the car, and it is incredibly quiet, roomy and comfy. I also packed my son's friends in it and then gave them a taste with the launch mode, causing a few headaches because their heads got smashed into the headrests. A little drag race with an Audi RS6 gave this ICE car not even a sliver of a chance, and chasing a Porsche Turbo S on the Autobahn left the Porsche driver sweating. Add to that personal delivery at your door, a really good leasing offer and cost free car pickup and replacement car at your door and you have a package that is almost unbeatable. In my opinion the best EV on the market, bar none.

    • @Miata822
      @Miata822 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's 1234, but with a wink. Real hp is more than that but they don't really want to say. Each of the 3 motors on the Sapphire is rated at 670hp each, so hypothetically capable of 2010hp. Lucid engineers say that the battery amperage is the limiting factor, not the motors. With new battery chemistry they could potentially just dial the power up a notch. Yes, that's insane.

  • @coma13794
    @coma13794 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    11:55 you get over it after a few weeks. You drive like an asshole for the first 2-3 weeks, then you realize just how well the car drives at ALL speeds (even normal speeds), and you slow down, using the speeds only when necessary to get around traffic on freeways. It's a shame that you wrote off the GT and Touring models as "only having 1 or 2 motors." I've driven the Touring and GT, they both drive great, and for day to day (not track), nobody should feel bad that they can 'only' afford the Touring/GT and not the Sapphire. Other than brief giggles and track days, I still argue a Touring/GT is beyond adequate and still gives you the "now you've over there..." feeling that you described (and you're not wrong!)

    Yep, price is the main factor. I'm completely happy with my 2022 Air GT with only 5K miles on it. I couldn't see spending the extra $$$ to upgrade to the Sapphire. For me Range is King, not speed, but so far not a single super car has been able to take me off the line, so saving money there too. Don't get me wrong, I love my Vette...though a classic at this point, a new eRay could be in my future. Good Luck.

    @coma13794 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    8:05 is the true utility of having gobs of instantly-available power. The lack of drama and sound makes it hard to understand just how quickly the car is accelerating...but that is where EV's in general, but especially the Touring/GT/Sapphire have daily utility. Overtaking is part of daily driving. There are legit uses for having the ability to accelerate quickly to just get things done...then you back off and resume normal cruising. What is NOT clear from this video is that Touring/GT do it just as well, for all intents and purposes. I drive a GT and find the power to be useful every single day...however, I never need all of it to get the job done. On that basis, while it would be hugely entertaining to have more power, the reality is that there is bucket loads in the lower models, and unless you have $250k burning a hole, I'd argue the value for money is so much higher in a lightly used Touring or GT for high 50's or mid to high 60's, respectively. I wish this video addressed this point, otherwise it was great.

      Generally speaking, those who go for the top-of-the-line model in a lineup do so for bragging rights and that they can afford it. At that point you're moved more by emotion than sensibility. I just wish the Sapphire interior came in more interesting colors besides just the black.

    Lucid AIr is fabulous even at the base level, the Sapphire is a supercar monster. The steering/handling dynamics are supposed to be better than the likes of BMW, Tesla, that is very, very appealing to me. Then the interior screens. laid out for a driver to be informed. I drive on winding country roads, so central touch screens are not acceptable, I need instruments directly ahead of me, simple controls on the steering wheel, stalks, routine one touch buttons, so I hardly have to take my eyes off the road or my hands off the steering wheel. It is not safe to reach across to a screeen and make multipe interractions whilst driving.

    Why does someone need such a quick car as there are strict speed limits? Even on a highway, you're not allowed to drive with more than 85 mph.

    But, does it have FSD?. I love my Model S, not for the speed only but it can drive me and take the stress of driving anywhere. The amazing power is there when I need it. When Lucid, which I cheer, comes up with an fsd for their car, I'll add this one to my EV cars collection. Ty for the video.

    Nobody talks about it but it’s wild how many manufacturers are biting off of Cadillac’s latest design language. Nearly everyone in the business now has a thin vertical slit in their front fascia as a pass thru for air or it’s an actual vertical thin LED light in Cadillac fashion. The interior is also Cadillac esque but others like Lincoln and Genesis have no adopted this interior layout straight out of the Cadillac Celestiq. It’s always cool to be the fastest on the road but as you pointed out it’s useless in traffic. I would much rather spend an extra $100,000 and opt for the larger and much more luxurious CELESTIQ to live with over this.

    This car is ridiculously overpriced at $250,000. If you compare it to a Tesla, it’s clear Tesla offers a much better value, even for their truck. Is it really worth paying $250k for a 0.25-second advantage in the 1/4 mile? I doubt most people will be hitting the drag strip with this car anyway. If - or when - it drops to around $100,000, then we can talk.
    Lucid is a loss-making company that only survives thanks to constant cash infusions from investors. How long that will last? No one knows. And let’s not forget, this car (or any other from Lucid) doesn’t even offer FSD, nor is it planned. Yet it’s priced like a Boeing wing for what’s supposed to be a regular family car. Makes total sense, right?

  • @siamparagon9250

    Tell me again.. How much for that car..?? What is the price again??
    Nah. Give me a Tesla Plaid for nearly half the price and I'll be happy to sacrifice a bit of interior gadgets. And it is about just as fast, charges better, faster and has better FSD tech.
