    Was taught this at the United States Indian Police Academy. Wasn’t explained to us this in depth, but I know how effective it is. Thanks for making this video. It has refined my technique and made me more effective!

      *This guy has good intentions, I'm sure he cares about self defense, but I don't think this guy has ever actually been in a gunfight. If you try these techniques, YOU WILL DIE. There is much more to retention shooting than this. If you want to know retention shooting methods that are actually realistic, lookup Craig Douglas's retention shooting on TH-cam.*

      @@Coffee1776still a lot to learn from these old guys, but Hackathorn is more of a competitive shooter for sure. Just take what works and put it in your toolbox, throw out the rest. I love Craig Douglas too, good recommendation 👍

    Gotta say I love this channel with these master classes. It significantly improve my techniques. Everything seems to be basic, but it’s the foundation to success. Great video !

    Shooting from retention is a must at very close range. One thing to add might be that porting and compensated pistols aren't the best for EDC for the possibility of stippling your own face from the position.
    Thanks for all of your great classes Ken!

    Practice a technique called "You Control Time & Space". You can move while seeing/deciding/drawingweapon. Give yourself space.
    Give yourself time. Don't be a flatfoot if you can help it.

    Wish he made a DVD with all his drills!

    Well the loss of blood from a shot to the groin will kill in about 45 seconds.

    sorry but too much twisting. simply draw gun, pin arm to hip, fire where looking, lean back a bit for elevation. time is of the essence, and a little practice will teach you.--courtesy Ed McGivern

    Another tacticool skill unlikely to be used in real combat. Creating space like moving backwards or side stepping
    is more practical.

    • @simonsmith9363

      This technique was perfected by Fairbairn & Sykes during WW2, it is still taught today because it works.

    • @C.A.K.92
      @C.A.K.92 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, moving backwards is always a great idea 🤔 Sometimes you dont have time to step offline or seek cover. This is a valuable technique widely utilized throughout the world. Once you realize how easily you can be disarmed at close range, you will understand the value of retention shooting.

      Why must people try to out expert the experts? LOL Hey Joe - seen a lot of urban combat? This technique in invaluable. When your back is against the wall, and two thugs are closing in on you - I wonder how you "create space?" Learning to do it ALL is key.

      Most people have no clue that human PIEV time (perceive/think/feel/react) to the unexpected) ranges 1.5 to 2.5 seconds, longer if distracted, so if someone decides to charge you from 10ft or less, there’s a very good chance you might not even get to your weapon, let alone get a round off. So as he says, you may have to push or hold off your assailant with the free hand to make room for your hole puncher.
