Law Enforcement isn't what it once was. The majority of law enforcement today cares nothing about the constitution. They take an oath to uphold the constitution. First thing they do is violate that oath. Police unions have voted democrat for years. They made their bed. It's hard to back the cops when they have help destroy the country by voting for democrats. They quickly changed their tune when their lively hoods and pension were threatened during the defund movement. They voted for Trump but the damage was already done. The calvary never came running. 99% of the time the cops show up AFTER the criminals have harmed someone. Bottom line is 90% of law enforcement can't be trusted. They will turn on the public in a New York second. Just look at them now throwing people out of restaurants in New York for not being vaccinated. Even though the NY Police union voted for Trump they will do whatever they are told by whoever is in charge. We are seeing it now. I was recently in Chicago. Police no longer do traffic control. I saw, on Michigan Avenue, a vehicle stopped at a stop light burning rubber to such a degree that one could almost not see the vehicle. Hundreds of people were standing around the very popular tourist area. When the light turned green the car peeled out at high speed. The uniformed traffic control persons were unarmed but had radios. But none of them approached the vehicle or tried to get the driver to stop. Not a big deal… but indicative of where we are today.

When I First started to learn to fly a helicopter, one of the First things my instructor said to me was... See and Avoid... 'Nuff said!!!... Good stuff thanks for posting.
I've been cautioning friends for more and more in recent years about trying to be a hero and avoiding the fight. Society has changed. There was a time when people looked to create heros or figures to be respected. Now you see they are more likely to tear down someone in any way possible if that person distinguishes themselves in a conflict.
It's always been my personal policy to be aware of my surroundings and if I see or get the feeling that there could be trouble, I leave. I carry a firearm as a tool of last resort. We live in dangerous times. Ken's advice is solid.
Responsible carry of a firearm requires a lot of mental work and the understanding that you endanger both yourself and your community in foregoing that work. I have carried for several decades, and I still maintain my ability to make fast decisions and react appropriately. Having to start from scratch in a crisis will surely work out poorly for someone. My decision making abilities have been tested a few times, and I thank God that my mind was in familiar territory each time.
thats the best way ive heard it explained. im a nra instructor and i push the point that if you can get away do it. heros die and or go to jail all the time . if you have to react to save someones life under stand you are going to be arrested and have to prove you had no choice other than to watch someone be killed or save a life. and it could be your life on the line either way.
If I could somehow "bronze" just one video for posterity, this'd be the one. I'm someone who a lot of people consider the person they want around if things go south... but they're all S.O.L. these days, because they're on their own. I've always been a "One man can make a difference" kind of guy who would come to anyone's rescue if possible, but now I'm a "Stay out of it or I'll be sued into financial ruin and cause my family to be destroyed" kind of guy. Damn shame it's come to this, for me, but there it is. Hell of a thing.
Just for fun I once used to go on these big long bicycle rides in the middle of nowhere, sometimes even at night. I always figured I'd be okay because I was "carrying". But, in the last five years or so I've changed my tune about doing things like that. Times have truly changed, and not for the better. I'm no longer making the excuse to take unnecessary chances just because I'm packing.
Great advice. Just 2 nights ago while leaving a conviniece store , I had a drunken Mexican , pull up behind me blocking me in so his passenger could jump out , run in and do their transaction , without him having to pull in to a parking spot ( he even saw my reverse lights on) . Instead of blowing my horn or rolling down my window or saying anything , I just waited till he left. Was my blood boiling?? Hell yeah!!! That's exactly why I just said to myself, " it just ain't worth it".
You have been a good source of info for me over the past several decades. I think the best upgrade anyone can make for home defense is using a rifle or shotgun over a handgun.
This is real important! Thank you Ken! I wouldn't step in unless me or my blood relatives or real close life long friends were in trouble and maybe if a kid or something where it was just so shocking i couldn't leave.
A lot of 'OK' plinking ammo beats a few mags of magic bullets. Even more critical if you have more than one firearm (for you and your wife for example). Good to hear it from an expert. +
Thirty-five years ago, I lived on acreage in a rural area 10 miles from the nearest store in a town of 7,500 people. Today, I live on that same acreage in suburbia surrounded by subdivisions, schools, freeways, and urban crime. Law enforcement has tried to keep up, but, lack of funding, lack of people wanting to be police officers, and lack of public support has made that impossible. The vast majority of active police are excellent at what they do, but, police departments are not staffed or equipped adequately. Accept and train for the fact that, "You are your own first responder."
Well said Ken, I try to have a 1000 rounds of training ammo for general training and IPSC every 2 months and keep at least 100 rounds of defense ammo always in stock
It's pretty bad when you can get totally cleared in a self defense shooting and still end up in a Civil court getting sued for a million dollars for wrongful death.
That’s how the systems are set up, the burden of proof is higher for criminal cases. It’s nothing new, this is why OJ Simpson isn’t a convicted murderer but lost so much of his memorabilia to a lost civil suit.
I agree with everything this man just said. 100% correct. Glad we had this talk. It feels good to hear it from like minded individuals. I feel alone these days.

thats the best way ive heard it explained. im a nra instructor and i push the point that if you can get away do it. heros die and or go to jail all the time . if you have to react to save someones life under stand you are going to be arrested and have to prove you had no choice other than to watch someone be killed or save a life. and it could be your life on the line either way.
Very true the best battle won is the one you avoid!! Thank you you 4 speaking reality in this chaotic world….
Thanks Ken. Current LEO
There are skillful alternatives to the bipolar choices of eating your resentment or blowing his head off: a polite request for consideration.
Thank You Ken, Reality Check!
You bet!
Excellent Video, one every citizen should watch
Words of wisdom if I've ever heard them.
Great job, Mr Hackathorn!!!
A lot of 'OK' plinking ammo beats a few mags of magic bullets.
Even more critical if you have more than one firearm (for you and your wife for example).
Good to hear it from an expert.

This was a great video. Thank you, sir.🇺🇸
So sad, but factual. Ken is always so informative and easy to listen to and learn from.
Truth
Thirty-five years ago, I lived on acreage in a rural area 10 miles from the nearest store in a town of 7,500 people. Today, I live on that same acreage in suburbia surrounded by subdivisions, schools, freeways, and urban crime. Law enforcement has tried to keep up, but, lack of funding, lack of people wanting to be police officers, and lack of public support has made that impossible. The vast majority of active police are excellent at what they do, but, police departments are not staffed or equipped adequately. Accept and train for the fact that, "You are your own first responder."
One of the markers of a successful life is that you can thrive regardless of who is in political power.
Sad but true. Thank you for another great video.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you, good advice!!
You bet!
“The media in America is a marketer of perception, not necessarily facts.” Spot on! 👏👏👏
Such a accurate and concise message, Thanks.
You are so welcome
👏👏👏👏👏 Thank you sir! Excellent observation. Kind of where I’ve been for quite sometime now. Thanks for sharing!
Spot On! Thanks Ken!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing your wisdom
WOW! Ken lays it out like it really is.
Well put sir. I hope everyone sees this and understands what it means.
That needed to be said. Well done, Ken.
Well said Ken, I try to have a 1000 rounds of training ammo for general training and IPSC every 2 months and keep at least 100 rounds of defense ammo always in stock
Thank you Sir! All needed to be said. I have said much of this myself for a long time. Means something coming from you.
Excellent!
Great explanation of our current climate in America.
Your absolutely right sir. Thank you for sharing
Thank you, Ken. When seconds count, the cops are only minutes away. Stay armed, stay proficient, and stay safe.
Sad, but accurate assessment of what I see in the US today. It is important to get this message out. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
I agree with everything this man just said. 100% correct. Glad we had this talk. It feels good to hear it from like minded individuals. I feel alone these days.
Great info as always. Great channel with great facts. Thanks Ken!
