That first shot here by Ken was one of the most beautiful displays of fluid execution I've ever seen.
Superb video, everyone carrying should have this attitude of vigilance.
Cannot stress enough how basic and integral these lessons are to carrying.
A very affirming video for me personally on my first day of carrying: being strong in sheepdog mentality and unshakable in extreme situations it is the practical application of the protective tooling (marksmanship) that needs refining as a newb.
Wilson Combat has been and is continuing to be a bedrock foundation grounding intelligent decisions and positive upward progress.

Best most informative instructional class on defensive shooting in church I have ever seen! I am on a security team at my church and feel totally inadequate as I am not a large person and of age, plus I have never been in an actual combat situation and pray I never am.
Still I have taken a course on "Shooting from Concealment" and scheduled to take another on "Shooting on the Move and Barriers". Also attended a Security Meeting where a Sheriff Officer gave a three hour class on "Verbal Deescalation and knowing when to talk and when to take action.

The gun the security guard used in TX was a SIG P229 in .357 SIG. I don't know if I could be pressured to make a headshot like that, at that range, in double action that quickly. Some very fine marksmanship was in order on that day.

Thank you. How fitting your comments come at about the same time as the West Freeway Church shooting in Fort Worth. I just watched an interview with Jack Wilson the head of security at that church and the man who took out the shooter. His window was 4-6 seconds in a crowed auditorium. He typically does not recommend head shots but had no other choice. The shooter was carrying a shotgun and had just gunned down 2 people. The shooter was turning toward the front of the building when he was taken out.

My state has a law, they're good at passing those, making it illegal to bring a gun in a facility where childcare is provided, which is most churches! I am stunned how many public and private buildings deny my 2nd Amendment rights. I think that makes them "soft targets."

Brother Ken I live in Pennsylvania. We have had meetings about this and the pastors are on board especially the senior pastor is retired Navy.
Problem is I’ve said time and time again let’s tell the congregation that there are sheep dog in the congregation but we have a lot of New York folks that have moved here from New York and the mere telling them to duck and stay calm and let us handle the situation, there would be a complete melt down if they knew there were armed parishioners in the church. Sad, because if everyone stands up we’ve got a problem. Great segment and your a great teacher. Thank you.

@French Frys you are very rude. You also are wrong in your assertion. Georgia SB281, sponsored by Donzella James D- Atlanta, bans all semiauto weapons. A Georgia gun owner would get 5 years in prison for each instance of possessing a semiauto rifle, pistol, shotgun or magazine with a capacity greater than 10 rounds. If SB281 passes in Georgia a person possessing the pistol and two magazines the instructor used in this video would get 15 years in prison.

These scenarios have me debating trigger weights. I hate safeties, but I shoot M1911 handguns very well. I love the triggers and they are great for those split second accurate shots needed. I get that safeties can be trained around, but I just hate having to think about remembering to take a safety off. I shoot my SIG-P320 Compact well, but I can constantly shoot M1911 handguns better.

Really good points made. One point was the idea of a "headshot" instead of a center of mass shot. A shooting drill called a "failure to stop" drill that is most often trained with in the military and in law enforcement involves 2 shots center mass, a reasessment and an additional, vital shot. That vital shot is aimed either at the "T Box" (part of the head) or in the pelvic girdle. The head is generally discouraged in firefights because it's easy to do in training but not in real life. The pelvis is considered to be a vital area and is easier to hit. It still causes the threat to collapse from the damage to an important body structure. It also is not typically protected by armor.

I would really like to know how far that shot was. In the published video, it looks like more than 10 yards. It would be handy to know to practice against. Not only was it a fairly long shot, the guy was moving a little also, as would be normal. I am trying to think about how to make a decent moving head target. A head size balloon hanging from a long string is all I can think of. Any other ideas. One last thing, Ken's vest is the best looking vest I have seen. I would sure like to know where to get one. I have several by a couple of different makers, but they are all a little more obvious than that one. Anyone know?

I use to be on a church security team until I changed churches. I really like the idea of keeping your weapon pointed high for a ready position. When training many years ago as a police cadet we were trained not just to be aware of what was behind the target, but also who was behind me if the shooter returned fire. In thinking Reality Base Scenario's, I pictured not drawing until closing in enough to the shooter to assure a clear and doable shot. Rationale, avoid getting targeted yourself by shooter or friendly fire until the threat is taken out. What's you input?

  • @daves5765
    @daves5765 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Great video. Practice the same shot from a seated position also. You would be surprised how being seated changes the draw and geometry a bit. You never know if you would need to do the same shot in church or a restaurant etc while seated. Either way, awesome video. Train often everyone. And loose that sub-compact and buy something with a red-dot or decent sight radius and a good trigger.

I can't see an effective shot in less than 5 seconds in most cases. Two seconds to determine who is shooting on top of 2 secs. to draw and maybe 1-2 seconds to pick a safe shot. 5-6 seconds in most cases. Maybe longer if you don't have someone already on your radar.

I'm thinking through your information, (perhaps overthinking). If you are in the church crowd with your gun pointing up by your face, as described at the 8:19 mark, doesn't that make your elbows and arms more susceptible to be hit by panic'd people, causing you to be knocked out of engagement position?

Man, I sure do wish I could afford a Wilson EDC X9 and then I could really take on some bad guys. Unfortunately it seems you need to have won the Lottery first to be able to purchase a Wilson Combat pistola.

We teach Sul. (I’m sure I’m spelling that wrong). In other words, gun protected and straight down, in most cases, especially when moving through people to close on target. What are thoughts of others? Again, is up better (but not blocking view), because of concrete? Not sure, welcome comments.

That would be slower with iwb holster as most sheepdogs wear at either 4 o’clock or appendix.
I was hoping you were gonna talk about yesterday’s Texas church shooting. That shooting many points you are talking about. The window and flagging both happened 😎😎
