I bought a C40. I'm very happy with it. One of the best EVs I've driven. Extremely comfortable and quiet with immense power when you need it. Much more refined than the Y. The C40 looks and feels like a luxury vehicle. Build quality is probably the best I've seen in an EV.

@@lordvoldemort2564 It's very subjective. C40 has better range and I like the lines, not so boxy. But I would say XC40 is a better family car. I take a little bit more space for the range. Hey Bjorn, the XC40 electric and C40 both are made in Ghent, Belgium. I am certain, because I work at the departement in Volvo Cars Ghent where they make these cars. It is possible they are also build in China, but the Ghent factory is scaling up production, possibly converting the ICE and PHEV XC40 production line to build the electric XC40 and C40 to fulfill demand.

So hopefully the chip supply will catch up soon, so that I can go work fulltime and you can get your car. But I am wondering why Volvo is halting production because of chip supply, while Tesla is opening new factories and ramping up production 🤔

  • @silentjohn80
    @silentjohn80 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I would probably choose the XC40 over the C40 due to the more practical shape (and probably a bit better headroom in the backseats). The XC40 2023-model is updated, the front of the car looks very similar to the C40 (which is good, I never liked the original XC40 (electric) "grill"). It costs 10000 NOK extra to get the Matrix LED-lights, which is worth it in my opinion.
One reason C40 and XC40 seems to be expensive is that Volvo includes 3 years of service and insurance. Especially insurance for 3 years may be a significant amount of money you don't have to spend in addition to the car cost when you buy an electric car from Volvo. Currently, in Norway, winter tires is also included (campaign until end of 2022).

First time commenter Bjorn. Thoroughly enjoy your videos. And even my wife enjoys your vids and she usually leaves the room when I start watching EV reviews.
I have a very soft spot on my heart for Volvo, but the Koreans charging seems to slam the Volvo. But when I watched your 1000km challenge you showed a screenshot of your spreadsheet and the c40 had a better 1000km time than an IONIQ5. How?
We take a road trip twice a year that is 1500 miles so fast charging is a must. Even more important than range. Opinion?
PS - do you publish your spread sheet?

Hey look in the description of the video, all shiiiieeet links are there.
Range vs charge speed. Interesting debate. If you have good efficiency then a slower charge speed can be the same or better than a car with less efficiency but higher charge speed.
If you think of charging as mph gained, instead of kWh gained, then it makes more sense.
An etron charging at 150kW is charging at 375mph
An efficient car like a tesla can charge at 94kW and stoll achieve 375mph.
I don't know which I'd prefer to be honest. Efficient cars are cheaper to run (fewer kwh required to charge) and likely quicker over 1000km (more miles replenished per hour) I think, happy to be corrected.

Volvo preheats the battery so it charges at full speed. The Ioniq 5 has coldgating because the battery doesn't pre-heat for fast chargers so it is very slow if it's too cold.
Hyundai Kia has an update coming soon to preheat the battery but for now the Tesla/Polestar/Volvo will charge fastest in winter. If you live somewhere warm Hyundai/Kia will be very fast.

Be very careful! My wife and I bought this car and after 3 months and less than 3,000 miles it broke down with a “Propulsion System Error.” I’m still not sure what exactly was wrong with it, at one time they said it was the differential, but the Volvo mechanics didn’t know what they were doing, twice they had to send to Sweden for replacement parts and it took two whole months for them to repair the car! It is beautiful and drives like a dream when it is working, but it seems Volvo took some shortcuts rushing this to market, and they certainly have not trained their US mechanics properly nor anticipated needs for spare parts. Over the last 20 years we have had 3 gas powered Volvos which were all great cars, but they may need some time to get their EVs right.

Thx, for your Reviews, Björn. Always good, really nice Volvo.
But you're always complaining about the Autopilots from the Cars. 😋🤣 I've made only 1500 km in my Tesla 3, I'm really happy with it, but I almost can not use the Autopilot here in Switzerland. If you are in traffic at the Autobahn it goes zigzag, sometimes he Phantom Breaks, the Streets signs in ca. 50% he doesn't want to know about them. Sometimes he fixes a max. speed limit and I can not change it. The best autopilot that I have tested till now, and I have not driven many cars like you. 😂 Is the Autopilot from Mercedes.
Try not to be so harsch on the other Autopilots, because you are not so harsch on Tesla. 😋😊

if I'm correct the Model 3 does not "see" per se the traffic signs or speed limits, it just uses the info from the map. That's for example not really cool, as we in Scandinavia have different limits for summer and winter. The car just doesn't know them. The 2016 Model S I had that had mobileye and saw all the speed limit signs without problems. :/

Also to add - the price is just silly. For the same money here in the UK you can get a Polestar 2, which is much more car for your money, an IoniQ 5 or EV6, which both look miles better. And then if you look at the petrol line-up (so called mild hybrids, Bweuh) you can get an XC60, S60, V90... I understand electric cars cost more at the moment (although I'm not sure why), but for those like me considering switching at the moment, it isn't even close. If I have to choose between this ugly duckling or an XC60 ICE the choice is very easy.

Ioniq 5 / EV 6 is not an option so I havent tested them yet, maybe next year if they fix the cold/heatgate on them..
Getting a C40 instead, had a 1000km trip in one and liked it alot, was also faster in Björns 1000km challange then ID4, 1600kg towing capacity etc.. A much nicer and cheaper car then ID4 here in Sweden..
