    It is just an opinion but I really think they did a great job designing this XC40. It still looks great.

    Thank you! This is one of the only FWD reviews in TH-cam and incredibly informative. I've ordered a FWD but wasn't able to test drive it so been a little nervous. Your review has helped enormously.

    The XC40/C40 drivetrain uses synchronous permanent magnet motors on both axels, which means they can’t be “switched off” electrically.
    Tesla and others use asynchronous motors on the front in AWD cars which means they can simply be switched off and then produce no drag.
    The downside of asynchronous motors is that they are larger and less efficient.

    I got the XC40 recharge 2022 in Thailand it’s so good but one thing I just added are rear mudflats as the rear wheels really spit debris up the rear of the vehicle and the black plastic really looks ugly after a short drive in wet muddy conditions otherwise so satisfied. Regards

    The seats in the 2nd row are bit low and hard, not that comfy for taller passengers as for instance in the Kia eNiro. Wish they would offer B&W audio as na option, too. This one is nice, but nothing near the B&W. Otherwise a great car, will consider for my next EV.

    Artificial throttle delay is to reduce wear and tear on the tyres. Volvos are all about being sensible and smooth.

    here in Canada the Tesla Model Y AWD long range is now $86,990.00 CAD, the Volvo XC40 AWD Ultimate with Pixel light option is $78,900.00, so what gives Tesla

    The artificial delay in tork may be to reduce strain on the drivetrain🤔

    Test drove the EV6 yesterday. Got pretty good range estimate on it, though we were driving quite dynamically at least one third of the time. Wonder if that has decoupled motors. Btw... the sport mode on that car is just stupid crazy, don't need it. The car handles kinda poorly in tight bends with speed, so no point using it. The XC40 AWD felt more stable, even in normal mode. Would love to test the FWD XC40 too. It seems like the cara we should choose.

    MY23 was coming with pixel lights, but the "chip shortage" caused pixel lights to become optional in all trim levels.

  • @ChrisDunbar
    @ChrisDunbar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bjorn thanks for the review. Does single pedal mode work the same in FWD version? No motor on the rear so Does the car’s software engage the rear brakes when you lift off to match the regen effect on the front wheels?

    06:27 I imagine because RWD isn't very stable with an SUV, certainly much worse in the snow etc and the car was already built for front wheel drive.

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Incorrect. RWD are in fact very stable. You have old fossil mindset where there's a large and heavy engine + gearbox in the front of the car.

    Why RWD for EV is better than FWD ? I just bought new RWD (MachE, Oslo) but still not sure if it is a good idea to have RWD

    • @kalleguld
      @kalleguld 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      FWD causes torque steer (where the car steers to one side if you accelerate quickly). RWD also gives a bit better steering while accelerating since the friction in the front wheels are only used for steering.

    So basically Volvo took the petrol body shell, and converted it to battery. The charging socket is where the old petrol filler used to be, and the transmission tunnel is still there in the way of rear seat passengers. What a bloody scam. And what an ugly lump.
