It's a hit and miss. The cover will also hold the gear down. But if there's very much slack then it will try and skip. The spacer is pretty important. If using a later gear on an early engine, a shorter spacer has to be made. There isn't one available outright as far as I know.
Other than the different shaft and large gear for the 87-89, the rest of the components are exactly the same. Pull it apart and follow the video. They are really simple. Usually it's installation assembly error.

What if it don't line with the spring,I ordered a used one it's the same as I got,plus it's the idealer gear that is gone I think

Mine is trx250 1985-86 model...my kickstart is not free spinning....and the hook on the spring doesn't line up....
