Bought the ebook, packed full of useful links, highly recommend it to anyone considering it. A massive time saver when researching items and materials for the build.
You have the best self build van out there by far, just great ergonomics and also very aesthetically looking. I have seen so many builds and yours by far is the best by far even better than some of the professionally ones too.
Nate Murphy Would you mind giving a ball park estimate for total cost? I might not be able to afford housing to finish my education, so I think this would be the best option so that I can focus on paying tuition. The states are getting rough these days, loads of people are considering moving into vans because housing is too expensive.
Yes, a stealthy(ish) van would be perfect for that! Just worth noting that the heater exhaust is kinda noisey too so it kills some of the stealth element.
PSYCHEVENTURE The noise wouldnt affect me really 😃 as long as im warm that all that matters to me. I'm glad you uploaded your building off the van to youtube as it gives people like me inspiration for future projects

you can get something like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-GENUINE-EBERSPACHER-WEBASTO-EXHAUST-SILENCER-MUFFLER-24mm-/322371965411 and that noise will be banished
Your van is beautiful....I love the design...I am hoping to do this one day...the view when you're sitting on top of the van is gorgeous....I'll never be lucky enough to see Spain so thank you. I'm 47 and feel if I don't try this van thing soon that I may never get to see anything beyond my living room....so envious.
So awesome dude. I've done a few trips now with friends where we've just packed a car with a tent, all our shit and put bikes on the bike and that's worked okay - but a setup like this is the dream!
As an American who is planning on living in something like this one day, my solution to the showering will be having a gym membership at planet fitness.
In Australia. using the gym for showers is very common with backpackers who sleep in cars or vans. the vans they use isn't like this. it's very basic with just a matress on the floor type of van. they normally get the cheapest gym membership available to the cheapest gym and shower at the gym every day and they good.
Full time RV Lifestyle is so rewarding , though not without sacrifice. You always put out videos that I watch from start to finish . You kinda kept me focused when making my decision to go after this Lifestyle full time. Thanks and happy trails .
Next step is, you should get a remote start for the van! That way if you need emergency heat and don't wanna get out to start your van in the middle of the night, just press a button from the comfort of your bed! They are 1000% worth it. Compustar makes them for cheap :)
I just discovered your channel today Nate. You have more drive and inspiration than any 10 people I know. I looked at you home page to see this video because of your filming your friend that did the Ford van build. Listening to you makes some of us feel so unaccomplished. You are one bright guy. Your van build was amazing...everything so well thought out. You have made a new fan, and I cant wait to spend more time reviewing your other vlogs. Thank you for the inspiration.
Great design. I like that window and the sit near to it, the wood walls and the storage places are so clever. Thank for sharing. It seems like a tiny cozy house 🏡
Your one ignorant person. You know there are rapist and murderer's that walk the streets every day in the day and night. You might walk pass one daily. Dont ask dumbass questions.
SkyMcSparklePants I recommend if you go that route get a shotgun. Mossberg 500 with an 18.5 in barrel. They dont kick that much and you should be able to handle it. Also get bird shot shells so they won't go through other walls or vehicles. 299$ to save your life is a worth it.
Try a magnet on your drawers underneath the sink, that would stop them from opening and closing when you take off instead of that rubber rope you hooked in.
Okay first off I send your Mother and Father a huge HUG, applause to their gene pool and talent in raising you, whom I find absolutely brilliant. You are terrific in explaining why and your thought process. I am a highly visual human and find some of these videos a bit blocky and spotty to follow. You are a great teacher and host and THANK you for doing what it takes to share this with all of us. Happy climbing and fun finding! If you are ever in Port Townsend WA, USA come on over.
Haha thanks Cathy.. I took a screen shot of this comment and sent it to them.. they liked it. So glad you liked my videos and really appreciate you nice words! :)
My 9 and 11yr old sons watched your build video and are already coming up with their own ideas for a similar project. Thanks and keep up the great work.
your van is Absolutely Awesome. camper van in 16 days is AWESOME to watch over and over. most campervan videos waste space. you work in detail. detail is everything!
PLEASE DO NOT DELETE These notes are for me. 0:29 - 0:39 seperate cab and body like that but have door incase of emergency 5:06-6:46 pretty much built the same but vertical and have sliding door similar to his 1:10 - 1:42 blackout curtain 11:49 - 13:33 one 300 watt solar panel - DOPE; do this if Will Prowse doesn't have better idea
His Macbook consumes some 10 W, the 300 Wp solar panel should provide more than enough energy, even on days without direct sunlight. I suppose the LED lights need more power than the laptop. Instead of a solar panel it might be an alternative to just build a larger battery bank (maybe 1 kWh or so, with "dead" batteries from electric scooters or ebikes) and charge it from time to time. This would make the vehicle even more camouflage and should provide enough electricity for one week off-grid or so.
Haha :D Yes, the laptop charger might state something like 45 W but that is only the maximum power that the charger could use in any valid use case scenario. That´s like a Tesla engine that could use 400 kW but it doesn´t do that in most cases, because the average energy consumption for normal driving is much lower, more like 20 kW or so depending on the speed. Even your 1200 W PC might just use 100 W or 200 W. Mine has a 600 W power supply and in idle mode it consumes exactly 113 W. When rendering something, it is still just 190 W.
Shaving foam on inside of windows. Kitty litter in dense fluffy socks. That handles condensation. Soft plastic bristle broom+brush for dusting yourself/items off (horse brush) and can be dish washed. Movers pads where one person can move a 100+kg item if attached at the corners for the boxes to reduce wear. Overhead net to dangle things over the bed and be fashionable; also, hammocks work nicely too anywhere. Van back hooks for bikes that lock up wheel, frame to other wheel are suggested. Anti static dusters is also recommended to pull the shock out of all the paneling and handles. Telescoping handles that adapt to all brooms/hooks/etc (normally 25mm plastic) is also a good idea to have tools in limited space. Just twist onto the telescoping handle.
i have 17 years and it is a lot of time i want something like that ! when i was 7 i sad to my mum i am saving money for the woswaghen van😂. so cool and so beautiful ! i Hope to meke something like that in the future ! nice job
Love how it's real stealthy. For the shower I use a portable instant gas shower, they are great, cheap and do the job. If you need privacy uou can get one of those tent style shower rooms.
I lived in my Murcury Villager Van for a while an lighting several candles an closing off front cab portion an covering back windows. I was surprised the candle would warm up back area. for the drawers get child prof latches for inside drawers to keep them in place. Then open 1 inch push child prof latch down an open all the way, real easy.
Thank you homerun217 for your nice words.. I have a background in design - but neither carpentry or electric.. these just had to be figured out in the process :)
Im totally late the game on this video, but had a couple questions and I apologize if they've been answered elsewhere. 1. What do you do for keeping food cold/frozen? Not sure I saw a refrigerator or cooler. 2. Why did you construct the bed so low? Could you not have utilized more storage space underneath? Your van is epic. I built a Sprinter a few months ago and traveled the country with my wife and 8 month old son. Nothing like it. Keep on inspiring : )
No it wouldn't, it would be literally the exact same. For people that like it, sure. I like being a certain place for a certain amount of time though. And anything that I do at home, for example I'm able to get some income from selling any fish that I've bred wouldn't be able to be done. And I don't know if I would be able to store any guns in that from a legal standpoint. So if you like living in a van and travelling, sure. If you don't like it, it won't make a difference if you don't.
Hi Nate, Love what you've done with your van. I do agree with Kimberly's suggestion that on the bottoms of your food storage slide out crates/drawers, place stick on felt pads that are available from stores that sell felt slider pads for moving furniture. They are usually available in circles, squares, narrow strips, and in narrow rolls. They come in tan or dark brown colors. Where I live, those items are readily available from "big box" stores like Home Depot and Lowe's. Sorry I don't know an equivalent big box store where you live. That should provide enough padding that the aluminum surface and wood surface of your floor do not get scratched. Also, I was wondering why you didn't make at least one of your windows so that it could open for ventilation purposes. I suppose you'd want to add a window screen also to keep out mosquitoes and other "critters." Also, I don't remembering seeing a small fan, which would also help with ventilation. Thanks, Jo
add an abs duct to move you heat where ever you want. It'll also be detachable. Basically you can pipe it from there, and 90 it to heat the whole cabin centrally. Just remove the pipe. It may also quiet that beast down!! EPIC job!!!
Fit, finish and overall design is very good. We have a smaller van so all that timber wouldn't work for us, along with a bulkhead which we removed, but a few of your ideas are well worth stealing. Like the shower cubicle which will also work for us and space heater. Cheers, maybe see you on the road, used to love climding, but then athritis set in, so go for it.
Halfway through so far and I don’t see your fridge, but your van is awesome you’ve done a really good job I hope you have a lot of happy days, nights & memories ✌️
awesome video! I always wondered how you were getting on! more regular uploads please sir!!! also, how are you so damn shredded! 100quid to the first person that counts how many times Nate says 'like' 😂😂
Thanks man! Like or Kinda.. I seem to use that a lot on videos :D .. regarding the shredding - I try to climb 2 days on and one day rest, other than that lots of cheese and sausages.
I love it! I watched your build video when it came out and I've been waiting eagerly to see how it's been! For your heater, you might consider putting a deflector hood sort of thing above it to direct the warm air out past that seat, it would just help heat things up quicker!
Boat for Sale/Van wanted. Congrats on an awesome project and some of the best documentation of it I've ever seen! If we ever want to pursue this project, I thank you in advance for everything you've shared!
Wow, Mr Murphy you are extremely watchable. Your build is really interesting (I'm thinking about trying your estate car micro-camper design because I've got no money but a Passat), but if I'm honest I think I'd watch you explain pretty much anything. It's not just that you're attractive, you put yourself across really well and seem like a genuinely likeable, intelligent, approachable person. It's no wonder your uploads are so popular. Thanks for all the tips + info.
Thanks so much for your nice words! Cool about trying a micro camper set-up... i would like to note that I would have made the back strorage box narrower to make it easier for sleeping. But otherwise its kinda handy for one.
You should hang a cargo net on the ceiling and keep you clothes and jackets in it it would keep them out of the way and provide more insulation in the cold
Ever tried to bake something in the cab? You could probably set up a small solar oven. On hot days you might be able to cook cookies or something. I love your camper van project.
great videos, and a great van, love the wood and danish oil finish, everything looks like it works just fine, gotta love the full size bed, most important part sleeping, enjoy your travels man,all the best from England.
This guy loves Auto-carpet & Spray-foam! Thanks for making these, stealth is such a good idea. Im living in a £500 caravan atm but it would attract the wrong kind of attention in London, still am considering it though! (I’ll need to get access to a workshop before i can upgrade lol)
To protect your floor, put some felt on the bottom of your drawers.DON'T fill your rear lights with foam. Make an insulated cover to go over the back of them to cure the condensation.
Yea that is a good idea.. I am probably to lazy to sort the felt though :) ... Agreed about the lights.. not a bad idea.. if it gets to be more of a problem I will do this! Thanks for your comments & suggestions!
Great that you thought of that slide-down behind the driver's seat. In an emergency, you won't have to get out of the van to get into the driver's seat for quick escape. Probably will never happen, but who knows... Great video. Thx!
Cool van homie. Only thing I would've done differently is put in a hinged bracket to hold a small tele that could flip down from the ceiling in front of the vanity that you could hook up to the blutooth speaker that way you could watch your favorite dvds before bed. But you have laptops so I suppose that's essentially the same thing
+νικος γιώργος it's subliminal advertising..? say it enough and maybe you click like 😛 (it's on my list to say 'like' less... and stop staring every sentence with 'so')
Thanks for watching!

Your van is awesome. I would love to have convert a van in the future so I can travel to events in the UK without paying for a hotel room

Samuel Mitchell in america theres places called anytime fitness check them out
Fattymcjigles 1 yes I know them as well! Any gym you prefer will work as long as it has a shower and ideally 24 hour access
Samuel Mitchell a lot of beaches have showers too
Ben Sohlberg well good luck finding beach shower in Scandinavia
You did a stellar job on your van build! It's is one of the best I have seen. Love the slider. Beautiful work!
Thank you so much for your positive words!
You have inspired me. And helped me. This gives me realization that van life doesn't have to be as much of a haste as I thought it would
Yea its pretty chillin! :)

love everything about the van. You are quite the craftsman. It looks so cozy inside the van. I hope you continue to have a safe journey in your van.
Thank you Lisa! Super kind of you to say these words! :)
Great design. I like that window and the sit near to it, the wood walls and the storage places are so clever. Thank for sharing. It seems like a tiny cozy house 🏡
I like van life and I'm thinking of taking it back up since it's super convenient accommodation-wise. It can be a little scary though.
What's scary about it? Are you worried about your safety?
Your one ignorant person. You know there are rapist and murderer's that walk the streets every day in the day and night. You might walk pass one daily. Dont ask dumbass questions.

I recommend if you go that route get a shotgun. Mossberg 500 with an 18.5 in barrel. They dont kick that much and you should be able to handle it. Also get bird shot shells so they won't go through other walls or vehicles. 299$ to save your life is a worth it.

Before you call people ignorant you need to learn the difference between "your" and "you're".
I was watching this video 8 months ago dreaming of this life. Now I have been living in a van for 3 months. Thanks Nate!
Ah awesome, your van looks ace! Well done :)
If you are near Chamonix in the coming week - say hello.
Try a magnet on your drawers underneath the sink, that would stop them from opening and closing when you take off instead of that rubber rope you hooked in.
Nice idea. Thanks!

This has to be one of the best van set up I have came across....very cool!
I really like your van. beautiful. good work.
Thank you Joe!
Yeah, really impressive! Thanks for sharing this and your work with it.
This is the most ingenious and well thought out conversion I have ever seen on TH-cam. A mine of information, thanks for sharing it.
have you found that the solar panel could keep your laptop charged as well? I'm a programmer considering this lifestyle to afford silicon valley.
His Macbook consumes some 10 W, the 300 Wp solar panel should provide more than enough energy, even on days without direct sunlight.
I suppose the LED lights need more power than the laptop.

wow only 10W? My pc takes 1200W... LOL
Haha :D
Yes, the laptop charger might state something like 45 W but that is only the maximum power that the charger could use in any valid use case scenario.
That´s like a Tesla engine that could use 400 kW but it doesn´t do that in most cases, because the average energy consumption for normal driving is much lower, more like 20 kW or so depending on the speed.

I'm guessing you have a 1200W PSU. If your PC took 1200W you would probably be running Quad SLI Titan's with a 6950X i7.

Lorenzo Pacifici you are Spanish, aren’t you.
Man, I saw your DIY van-camp video and I must admit... you are AWESOME! You inspired me to try it in a near future. Good job!
Greetings from Spain!
Definitely the nicest van build I've seen so far, and great videos! Other than needing a poo at 3am, what are the biggest drawbacks do you think?
Embrace the night poo!! 💩
There are shower heaters that attach to the engine then just need a water hook up to give warm water just a thought
Esto es un poco de todo :)

Es broma soy español xd
Love how it's real stealthy. For the shower I use a portable instant gas shower, they are great, cheap and do the job. If you need privacy uou can get one of those tent style shower rooms.
cool to see the build video then this.
a few years back i'd want one too, but now i honestly am no longer in the mood for this kinda life.
I lived in my Murcury Villager Van for a while an lighting several candles an closing off front cab portion an covering back windows. really cool u seem natural on camera too like watching tv
Thanks! That is a big compliment!!
My father and made one, it took 2 months and maybe 3 weeks. We bought 2 Velociferos. And we use them to roam around the state for a day.
Could you put felt furniture small sticker type things ☺ under your storage boxes to prevent scraping your floor?
Yea that is a nice idea Kimberly, I will look out for some!
Hope it works out :-)
:) Happy New Year!
Nate Murphy Right back at you!
You are such an inspiration. Retiring soon (early) and doing this based on your "teachings"
such an awesome van! I want to convert one also so I can travel and bike all over the states!
Thanks! Do it.. its great fun!
Oh my gosh, this is the first time I've seen something like this. So amazing. This is like my dream lifestyle haha:)
Spectacular! This has got to be the nicest van build I've seen, well done sir. What sort of background do you have in carpentry or electric?
Thank you homerun217 for your nice words.. I have a background in design - but neither carpentry or electric.. these just had to be figured out in the process :)
your van is insane.I am a kid but the life in a van looks so nice. You really inspire me!
Thanks Günther!
You should put a mini fridge in there
Im totally late the game on this video, but had a couple questions and I apologize if they've been answered elsewhere.
Imagine if every person in the world lived like this. The world would be a better place.
never find a parking space though
yea, if every person did this you'd probably fuck up the environment in a few short years.
Bodiablo how?
No it wouldn't, it would be literally the exact same. For people that like it, sure. I like being a certain place for a certain amount of time though. And anything that I do at home, for example I'm able to get some income from selling any fish that I've bred wouldn't be able to be done. and the fuel would be 100x higher and RIP earth from all the gasses

awesome video!
Nice to see how relaxed and happy you are with it, you did so well.
Thanks PIa
UPDT? *:V*
Jjejjejejeje
Yo
I love it! I watched your build video when it came out and I've been waiting eagerly to see how it's been! For your heater, you might consider putting a deflector hood sort of thing above it to direct the warm air out past that seat, it would just help heat things up quicker!
Yea not a bad idea.. I think when I am back in the UK I will simply move it to the otherside of that wood!
Un Poco De Todo??
Boat for Sale/Van wanted. Congrats on an awesome project and some of the best documentation of it I've ever seen! If we ever want to pursue this project, I thank you in advance for everything you've shared!
Thanks guys!
No fridge?
I was wondering the same thing
No Toilet
I've watched your previous video and I'm truly enjoying this. Please do a series of living off the grid.
You should stain the wood to make it look darker and smoother so it feels more cozy
Duckees On Quack everyone has their own definition of cozy. I think that it's fine as is...
Congratulations on a successful and useful build. It looks spectacular.
Te quedo prrona esa camioneta bro:v
Se que no hablas español pero me da igual xz
Xd
Nice setup. Great work
God damn... You made me buy a van and start rebuilding it....!!!
:D Nice - that is so cool! Good luck with the project!
Really awesome! Where do you use the restroom?
Hangs his arse out the window
Crystal Radcliffe lol
Crystal Radcliffe ,
dont you see the tools where washing the plate ?
There the place you ask.
I wondered the same. I'm not into digging a home for my own toilet.
You should hang a cargo net on the ceiling and keep you clothes and jackets in it it would keep them out of the way and provide more insulation in the cold
Yea could work.. might look a little less simple though!
hey, this looks really cool to do, but how do you make money? Or do you just have a lot in savings?
TreyWall I believe he said in one of his earlier videos that he saved up for 3 years or so.
TreyWall he maybe has a job
Ever tried to bake something in the cab? You could probably set up a small solar oven. On hot days you might be able to cook cookies or something. I love your camper van project.
Might not quite get hot enough.. but you never know! I have not tried tho.. maybe it could be a fun experiment when the weather gets hotter again.
cool van
Mirna Chiroy ggg
great videos, and a great van, love the wood and danish oil finish, everything looks like it works just fine, gotta love the full size bed, most important part sleeping, enjoy your travels man,all the best from England.
My dodgy craftmanship.... says the guy .lol.
Drink every time Nate says 'basically'
It’s a posh thing
Always good to see people live their dream. All the best!
Thanks Nick :)
Bill nye the white van guy
Tiny things, but love the mountain scenery reflection on the glass cooker cover, all in all a big eight out of ten for selfbuild.
"Like basically, actually, good honest basically actually like good tips here, actually."
Sounds extra smart with that accent though
put furniture glides on the bottom draw to stop it wearing the floor out, also put on anything that slides along the floor
How do you go to the bathroom???
Public toilets I guess?
Micah Paull just shit in the woods...
I'd probably put the bed higher, to be able to have more storage. Other than that, your attention to details yet usefulness is amazing.
Yeah, totally possible - but i wanted to be able to use the end as a seat.. either would have worked thougth.
Bathroom?? Nature i guess
Facilitrees...

wal mart plastic bucket,,, ehehhehe,,, ole USN vet
To protect your floor, put some felt on the bottom of your drawers.DON'T fill your rear lights with foam. Make an insulated cover to go over the back of them to cure the condensation.
Yea that is a good idea.. I am probably to lazy to sort the felt though :) ... Agreed about the lights.. not a bad idea.. if it gets to be more of a problem I will do this! Thanks for your comments & suggestions!
Like si vienes por un poco de todo ;)
Edit: gracias por los likes xD
Great that you thought of that slide-down behind the driver's seat. In an emergency, you won't have to get out of the van to get into the driver's seat for quick escape. Probably will never happen, but who knows... Great video. Thx!
not having a heater would be ridiculous....
so so true!
Waaayy too many "likes", and I'm not talking about viewers input...
+νικος γιώργος it's subliminal advertising..? say it enough and maybe you click like 😛 (it's on my list to say 'like' less... and stop staring every sentence with 'so')
Nate Murphy
Hahaha, didn't expect that!
So, that's why I keep pushing the like button....
hey I've been wondering how you upload videos on youtube when you're in a van. Please reply
Blaze Inferno
Microwaves dude!
this is amazing.... I travel with my 3 kids (4yr, 3yr, 9m) and you gave me a ton of ideas.
Sounds a great trip for the children! Glad to have given you ideas - and thank you for watching!
*UnPocoDeTodo?*
This has got to be the best looking van build I've seen! Nice!
like if you replayed that shower scene at least once
hell yeah
10:45 for anyone jumping around
