Currently I'm thinking about building a Van with my wife and I was also thinking about only using the front seats with a table as a dining area. Glad to see, that this idea actually works ☺️
You know I’ve seen so many of these can builds, but none looked NEARLY as nice as yours. It’s so modern and beautiful AND it’s electric, which is like a DOUBLE BONUS. 😆 I love your guys van so MUCH and I can’t wait to see more videos from y’all soon. 🥰
It was a lot of planning to squeeze all these things into such a small space, but we got there in the end. Also super happy about the shower, feels like we're living in a tiny apartment since we have that ☺️
We've gone fully electric too! For our second option, we have a portable gas cooktop that we store in the back boxes outside. We love cooking outside whenever possible, so the portable cooktop really comes in handy. Thanks for sharing! New follower here :)
That's awesome! We also just got a portable gas cooktop that we use outside or when we're low on electricity (like when it's been really cloudy and when we haven't driven much) ☺️
Just found you, nice van. Some really good use of space - we have a VW T3 Syncro, so even less space and always looking for ideas. Love the tattoos as well!
Very thoughtful and inspired build. Comments: Did you consider self supporting hinges for your upper cabinets? I like the amount of solar on the roof but do you also use the engine alternator to charge the batteries? Is 200aH @ 24v enough? How about when it's not sunny. With the one Maxxair fan, where is the passive air draw? Do you need to crack a window or open a door to help with the circulation? The water tank (21 US gallons) is a little small for two people full time especially with the shower. How often do you have to fill the water tank? I noticed you used a flexible rail for your front privacy curtain. As the driving seats are your only seating option, did you consider running the flexible rail privacy curtain in front of the seats for privacy rather than having to fit all the window covers (nice well made window covers btw!). Did you consider air conditioning? What did you use for insulation? I wish you well in your full time van life experiment. It would be also interesting to know roughly how much you spent on the conversion. Thankyou!
Did order self supporting hinges for the upper cabinets initially, but they didn't fit so had to return them. Time got tight so we were never able to get new ones before leaving Sweden. We can stand still for up to 3-4 days if it's really sunny (all depends on how much warm water we want to use and how much we want to use the induction cooktop). 21 Gallons of water is enough for 3-4 days as well (depending on if we need to shower or not). We try to plan for how many days we want to go off-grid and use water/electricity accordingly. There are passive air vents at the back of the car in the garage area (standard on the Mercedes Sprinter), so we get good airflow there. Air also get's pulled in through the front air vents so you get air circulating from both front and back at the same time when the MaxxFan is on. We did consider running the flexible rail around the front, but neither of us liked the idea of having the curtain hanging there hence doing it the way it is now. It's so easy and quick to put up the window covers though. Did not really consider air conditioning as it's quite heavy and costly, and we rather use most of the roof space for solar. Though we've not lived in the van when it's full blown summer, so might change our minds once we've experienced that 😅 We used Rockwool as insulation in the walls & ceiling. The floor has XPS (20mm). We'll upload a full cost breakdown of the van build in the next few days (might even be today), so subscribe to the channel so you won't miss it ☺️
Thankyou for your detailed reply. Thanks for pointing out the passive air vents in the Sprinter (probably most vehicles have this feature) as the centrally placed Maxfan brings in air from front and back. I did the flexible curtain rail in front of the seats as it creates a homey atmosphere if you chose nice curtains and is so much easier to set up. I too have the window covers and not having to set up the windshield cover is preferable. Also, the curtains provide a little more stealth because the dash and steering wheel are still visible from the outside with the curtains drawn. As far as the roof for solar, I get it. However, there are a couple of undermount A/C systems but they have to be integrated into the build. It’s hard to install after the fact and they are very expensive. I installed the Cruise N Comfort Icebox A/C which was a bear to install properly but will be worth it for the flexibility of hot climates.
You guys have constructed my dream van for my future. I do have a mini van that’s converted into a camper at this very moment, it still needs a couple of more things to make it fully complete and ready for my first road trip but otherwise it is good and I love it. But my next van built will be exactly like this all electric and no fears about propane or diesel or any kind of fuel that will cause carbon monoxide. And the only time I will ever use gasoline is for my van or my little smallgas powered generator.
Köp en slow cooker, och använd den när ni kör så den inte dränerar bilbatterier. Och köp en båt vagga, så att maten inte spills ut när ni kör eller en air fryer så att ni kan laga mer mat 😊
I was thinking earlier, guys. Unrelated timing but for conversions. You may have noticed a few use the space between the metal van skin and the kinda felt inner fabric material. Would it be possible to do the same with a heat shield sliding from above the front seats, slide it down from between those layers easily enough and quick painless deployment? My hesitations lay with the above head interface thing if I saw that right :o
I think it would be doable. You can also fully remove the headliner if you want to put something there. We removed it and put insulation between the metal and headliner, to insulate from both heat and cold 😊
